Review The PS2

I'm starting a sort of sub series to complement Review The PS2. In this sub series I'll be looking at PS2 games that are perfect sequels, games that outdo their previous installments in every possible way. Originally I was going to do Jak 3, but I ended up writing this one first. A second sub series was also going to accompany that video, and they're still in the works, so stay tuned for that.

Editing this video was tricky at times. Zone of the Enders' camera works when you play the game, but can be kinda hard to follow if you're just watching it. Combine that with dark environments, fast movement, and nontraditional frame designs and finding good footage to use is somewhat difficult. This is made even worse with The Second Runner, because it has crazy particle effects and smoke that look amazing in game but don't work all that well when you're trying to show something off. I tried to find good footage of Anubis just attacking Jehuty and with all of the particles and effects it felt like too much of a cluster.

I never really finished Zone of the Enders until I recorded footage for this video. My copy is bugged so my memories with the game consisted of replaying the first hour or so and then never finishing it because every time I tried to save the game it suddenly booted back to the PS2 home screen. I thought the game was better than it was because I was just enjoying the raw carnage of destroying robots and didn't follow the story or get into the major diversions. When I actually had to play the game I saw how underdeveloped it was. Aside from getting Decoy, not much changes how you play the game. In The Second Runner, there's a whole lot of major game changers. Jehuty has multiple forms and the best subweapon ever which lets you instant transmission your way to any enemy. Its sweet.

The first game isn't bad, it's just below average. There isn't anything you'd get out of it that you wouldn't get out of The Second Runner in a much tighter, more fun package. Next up is gonna be a standard review of the two Fullmetal Alchemist games that made their way to America, and I already like how the script is turning out.

Have a good one.

I don't know why, but I somehow forgot about this series.  I remember being annoyed by the original ZOE (no idea why), but the sequel certainly looks interesting.  I'll have to check this out.  Thanks for the recommendation.

By the way, I enjoyed the video.  You speak nicely, confidently and provide a lot of details.  Can't wait for the next one (hoping for Jak 3!).

Thank you for the feedback. Its easy to get annoyed by the first game because nothing happens in it. The next one will be Jak 3, which is why I showed that game as an example. Before then I plan on a special video for Jak 1 and 2.

Good stuff, man! I haven't played either game yet, but I remember being intrigued by the idea of ZOE when I first heard about it, though I didn't yet have a PS2. The series passed me by until more recently, as I've picked up used PS2 games. I have a copy of ZOE2, howerver, so I may have to boot it up at some point.

I'm on a quest to review every PS2 game, because its my favorite console. All of the reviews are uploaded to Youtube and I'll make a post for them when they come out.

You won't see just regular reviews, too. I also have some cool ideas I'd like to try out in order to review games in different fashions. Feedback is definitely appreciated.
