Do you ever feel.....sad.....for those loose games out there in the world. They have been passed over time after time after time by countless people. Never to see the light of day in a console ever again? No matter how bad we want it, we still pass it up with hopes of finding the same game complete.

Well yesterday i was out with the kids letting them spend there allowance money. We stopped by gamestop and there in the back was a end rack with some xbox games listed with a 50% off tag. We have been looking for some at some decentprices since i got the Halo Xbox back around christmas. They had some good titles too like Ninja Gaiden Black, King of Fighters, Beyond Good & Evil and then the cheapos. Prices were good for me to buy but..........they were all disc + manual or disc only. I was angry that Ninja Gaiden Black was disc only cause i really wanted that one. Needless to say i sighed and walked away. Not even at 75% off would i buy disc only games. We all associate disc only with those deep and ugly scratches that sometimes bust a console.

I feel so bad for those orphans......

I know how you feel. Loose discs to me feel like abused games, the previous owners obviously were slobs to somehow loose the case to them, and therefor the disc becomes mistreated. Who want's to buy that? Not many, and certainly not me. And the cheap little cartoony substitute covers Gamestop puts on caseless games don't make it any better. It's like putting a band-aid on a broken arm, it's missing the point.

I don't understand why people feel the need to throw the box and manual away.  The box doesn't take up too much room, and the game should be stored in there no matter what.  It makes wonder what people do with their disc games at home.

Carts with cardboard boxes are one thing, but there is NO REASON to lose the case for disc based games.  Disc wallets make for convenient storage when you're frequently carting a console and a handfull games to a friend's house.

Some mom-and-pop retro game stores don't accept loose discs any more.  I also applaud GameStop for once for their case and manual guarantee for online orders.

I should also mention that I HATED the thought of disc games when the Playstation and Saturn first came out.  I was worried that scratches would kill replayability and second hand buying.  I'm fine with them so long as I'm sure to check discs at the checkout counter.

At the moment I'm maxed out on shelf space.  Box size is keeping me from wanting to collect Wii or last gen games.  And for the Dreamcast, even the PAL cases are pushing the limit.  Japanese DC here we go!!

I tend to stay away from CD based games that are missing either the box or manual.
I've picked up quite a few though when the price is right Wink

I always hope to come across the loose box/manual down the road but it is almost always easier to find a loose CD to complete a manual/box.

I've bought several loose discs because I actually already had the cases and manuals. One lot of random PSX stuff I got had several loose discs that I needed for empty cases I bought in other lots.

Completing any game from loose pieces is always fun, but its especially satisfying with CD games. With cartridges, finding a loose one to put in the empty box you already have is like finding a good home for a toddler at the orphanarium but doing it with a loose CD game is like finding a home for a teenager at the orphanarium. They've been neglected for years and likely have some problems, but they still need a safe place to live.

I will occasionally buy loose discs.  It really depends on the game, I guess.  I think I'm more open to buying loose PC games then anything else though.

Now that you mention it though, the thought of good games with no place to call home but a Gamestop makes me want to sniffle.

I recently passed on a loose copy of Starcraft (w/key) and a shrink-wrapped  Win 95.  I might have to go get those tomorrow...

I figured something like this would never bother me, but I went to Gamestop today to get Guilty Gear X2 for the PS2 and they only had the cd, no cover, no manual, and of course a ton of stickers on the box. I almost didn't buy it, but changed my mind, bought it, and am loving the game.

Box is insanely ugly though. I figure I'll probably just print off a 'cover' for the game. No manual though kinda stinks. Those make good toilet readings.

The only time I will pick up disc only is if I really want to play the game, and I don't particularly collect for the system. For example I picked up D for Saturn just because I wanted to give it another run through and I paid $2 for the discs. Cheap enough to pull me in.
