Hey everyone!
So a friend of mine asked the question "Do you still use strategy guides?". Now by strategy guides he meant an actual physical copy, not an FAQ or walkthrough on the internet. I made a video response over on my YT channel. Here's the link:  . For me it is mainly about convenience but I also find that official strategy guides are just way too expensive, sometimes they can be more than the game! It is not the games fault, its the maker of the guides(Prima comes to mind). The companies make these "Collectors Edition? strategy guides and everyone that picks up a copy of the games feel almost obligated to get the guide to go along with it. I cannot tell you the amount of people that were picking up the guide when I went to the release of Halo 4 back in November. All in all I just think that everything that I need I can find online and avoid the unnecessary shelling out of money that I could be using to get another game.

SSG Out!

I love having the guides for the older games, since I'll thumb through them as reference and I love the artwork and detail that went into the older ones. My wife tends to pick up a strategy guide for her games, since she wants something to reference next to her without going to the computer. However, strategy guide prices these days make me cringe every time - the Halo 4 guide was $35.

if I find a second-hand guide for a game I have or would be interested in playing, I'll snap it up. The most I'll usually pay for a guide is $5.

I normally do not go out of my way to pick up guides but if I find them cheap I will grab them.  I proably have close to 100 stradegy guides with most of them I got free working at Gamestop.  After so long Gamestop just throws away the guides so I would just grab the ones I found interesting.  I kinda regret all the guides I thru away that I did not care about at the time.  I know a guy that still works there that takes one of every guide tossed out and has been doing it since 2004 so he probably has about 800 free stratedy guides he got for free.

Almost makes me want to get a job at Gamestop just for the guides...almost...

Simply put, no.  When I need a quick tip I generally use the Internet.  I still will pick up strat guides, but only if it is visually appealing and cheap.  Like less than $5 cheap, too.

I still buy them, but only for collecting purposes. The only one I am actually looking for to use is GT: San Andreas.

Like Shadow Kisuragi said,

I've kinda avoided buying guides for a long time. The last couple of years I started buying more but almost solely for collection reasons as opposed to 'needing them to get through a game' reasons. I will buy guides for newer games but older game guides have the biggest draw to me.

And like all other game collecting, I like to spend very little on it, if a guide is less than a dollar I'll buy it, if not, I'll likely pass. Obviously we are talking used prices/thrift store finds here.

A friend of mine lent my wife the guide to Oblivion, I was actually impressed with that one. It made me realize why people like them for actual help with a game. Because of that guide, I can now see the reason for spending the money to get one new.
