Collectors Corner

Posted under This old basement, game room

We all have our spot to game. This year I'm going to be building out a place to call home.
I'm taking inspiration from Slackur's game room to create a space that promotes parallel play.
I want people who visit to be able to pick up and play a game and not feel tied down to a particular spot or system.
To accomplish this I split my game room in to four areas:

1. Modern - Sit down on the futon and play some PS3, 360, Wii or X1.
2. Retro corner with Sony TV - Pull up a chair and play some classic games
3. Retro cart with Magnavox TV - Pull up a chair and play some 2600 or Intellivision
4. Bar - Sit down and play some Galaga or play a board game

I'm working on adding some custom shelving, another retro console cabinet, decorations (making it look less brown), and more places to play this year.

Suggestions are welcome and pictures below:

Retro Corner (I am going to build an addition to hold additional consoles and make sure disc based consoles have proper ventilation):

really nice progress man.

My game room kind of does that "parallel" thing too.  I have a big TV in front of the couch. I have a desk with gaming PC, gaming laptop, and a spot to plug in consoles there as well (good for Saturn/DC keyboard and mouse games...), and then I have my "Dreamcab" section which is a gutted bookshelf with DC console and speakers inside it and a nice LCD screen and arcade sticks mounted on top that you can stand at and play.

Nice looking gameroom!  I assume that you are using some sort of switch box(es) to toggle between consoles at these stations so that things don't have to be hooked up?

Very cool setup you have here, Addicted.  This is the kind of thing I would like to do in my home one day, assuming I can eventually buy a house with room to do it.  I'm loving the woodgrain TV for the RF-only consoles.  That's pretty awesome, and reminds me of the TV that used to sit in my parents' bedroom.  Always good to see a purposeful, well laid out game room!

I'm a huge fan of what you have going here, and it already looks like the ideal setup to just hang out and play games.  I know from experience that the downstairs bar design is great for making folks comfortable and it gives a lot of options for setting up.

Keep us posted as it develops, but I hope you get to enjoy it to its fullest right now! Smiley
