The Adventure of the Mega CD collectorThe Adventure of the Mega CD collector

I'm writing this on the 10th March 2009 and when it appears on the 1st September 2009, it will commemorate my 1 year anniversary of collecting games for the Sega Mega CD. The games on this Top 5 list will be games that for their price and rarity, I may never get these games at all.

If this blog gets posted and one of the games is actually in my collection, then all commenters must say "You are a hypocrite" before saying what they have to say. You'll see why when you go down the blog.

    • Number 5: Snatcher People may remember I did a blog saying that I lost an auction on this game. This is because Snatcher is a hell of an expensive game when it doesn't deserve to be, in my opinion. Another British collector said that since Metal Gear Solid 4 was released, this game doubled in price from 50GBP to 100GBP. People say it's an extremely rare Mega CD title but all it does is pats itself on the chest because Hideo Kojima made it and shuns every other game that is rare. So because of it's unfair price, I may never get it

    • Number 4: Marko's Magic Football This is quite a rare port of a Mega Drive game from Domark, I rarely see it come up, and when it did come up, I lost. I would also give an honourable mention to another Domark game, Syndicate, which is also rare and expensive for being the last Mega CD game to be released to the Western side (Shadowrun is the last Mega CD game released ever, only in Japan), interestingly, both Domark games were also in development by the Oliver Twins, who currently work in Leamington, my home town!

    • ] Number 3: Adventures of Batman and Robin This game is properly rare, but I don't know a reason why. I think it was a little bit more popular in America but I can't tell. This was a great improvement over Batman Returns, and also had original animated cutscenes. Other Mega CD collectors say that it is the rarest PAL Mega CD game ever but I haven't seen one go up more than the next two, still is expensive as heck.
    • Number 2: Fatal Fury Special I'm not into one-on-one fighting games that much, but this one is quite a rare one, according to Ben from the PAL Mega CD Library (http://www.sega-mega-cd-library.co.uk/) he only knows three people with this game including himself. Well from the image from here, there may be a fourth person. Even though this game and the number one game both are at the top from both their price and rarity, this one is lower cause you have a better chance of finding the demo for this game (like I did)

    • Number 1: Samurai ShowdownThis game is really hard to find cheap, even the demo of this game is never found on eBay. I don't even know much about this game other than an SNK fighting game yet it's expensive as hell!

These games are all expensive which is the main reason I may not get them. Why? As I'm typing this, I have a paper round which doesn't get me much, by the time this will be posted, hopefully I will get a better job. But because going into sixth form, my collecting will be slowed down by work, school work.

Despite making this list in honesty, after having a hard look, I've found all the games in this list all in one place and made a little picture to prove that they can be found.

By the way I know the fatal fury special picture is missing.

    You are a hypocrite! Tongue

This is cool, it's like a little blast from the (recent) past.

You've already got Snatcher, and a Fatal Fury Special demo (yes, I checked). If you keep collecting for the Mega CD I'm sure you'll have them all some day. Smiley

Are you missing number 3, or am I just looking in the wrong place?

@blcklblskt:OH CRAP I AM! Let me explain, if you look in the last picture, the number 3 game is supposed to be the European version of "The Adventures of Batman & Robin", which in an old blog entry, I showed goes for very high. I guess I just forgot about that one and left it thinking it was finished.
@Sirgin: laugh I knew at least one person would do that! Yes I got Snatcher months after writing this but the Fatal Fury Special Demo doesn't count because I meant the full game, not the demo (I got it before writing this blog entry so HA!)

i dont get it, all those games apart from Snatcher are on other systems and generally better converions so why would you pay so much for them?

Or is it about owning something that is "rare" as opposed to the best version? either way there is no way i would pay that much

I agree with Shrimp, that is why I only got Valkyrie Profile when it was released as a port for PSP. I don't deny though that if I had thousands of expendable cash and I got a lucky deal I would buy any of those games in a heartbeat.

I have PAL versions of Fatal Fury Special & Marko's Magic Football for sale

@trentus: Hi, how much do you want for them?... Can't seem to find a way to PM you through this site. So I'm forced to do it like this...

@elmagicochrisg: If you click his name, it will bring up his profile, from there select "Send this member a personal message".

@Alabama-Shrimp:Well Adventures of Batman and Robin is alot better than the other ports because it has improved driving stages and original FMV footage produced for the game. The other three I can see your point but I'm a Mega CD Collector.

I want Snatcher so bad. I really hope you find it and at a decent price. It will give me hope.
