Posted under Blog, Top 100

A recent trend on Twitter was #10favoritegames, which had my friend and I going back and forth about why we chose the ten games we did.  It wasn't necessarily a heated debate, but the number of games we considered favourites quickly escalated from ten to about twenty each.

"OH, damn, forgot so-and-so" was repeated a few times between both of us, and we joked that we would need a Top 100, not a measly Top 10.

That got me thinking...  maybe I *should* make a Top 100 list of my favourite games of all time.  Yeah, it'd be tough to actually create such a list, but it would be fun trying!

So, thanks to RF Generation and the ability to look at my collection and wishlist (I figure that pretty much covers all my bases in terms of favourite games), I was able to narrow my collection of 550-plus games into the 100 I enjoy more than any other.

Sorting them in order of preference was a bit of a challenge, but once that was taken care of, I couldn't wait to share my own list with friends.  Each entry will have a bit of the "childhood memory" feel to it like the rest of the blog was intended for, but really, I just expect a fun little jaunt down memory lane.

MY Top 100 - #100

Also, a bit of a disclaimer to anyone who might actually be interested in this countdown of mine...  there are certain genres I've never really enjoyed playing that much, notably RPG's.  The countdown will be void of anything Final Fantasy-related, or even Chrono Trigger.  It'll also have a few critically panned games, but then again, we all have those games that are guilty pleasures.

Keep that in mind...  on that note, I hope you enjoy my countdown!

That's a neat idea, a personal top 100 list.  Can't wait to see what the rest of them are!

I love seeing these lists when they are very personal and not generic. It seems thats how you've done it. These lists should be devoid of certain genres (you dont like RPGs, let it be known!), they shouldnt take metacritic scores into account (looking forward to seeing what your guilty pleasures are), and I love that it looks like you've actually put a lot of thought and effort into your choices so far.

Looking forward to the rest.

to be honest, I'd like to see us all come up with a top 100, and maybe see how everything ranks up with each other!

Thanks for the input, folks.  Very much appreciated!  I'm glad the concept of including games on a list for personal reasons appeals to people, because I've only ever played games for my own personal enjoyment.  Makes sense, right?

There have been a ton of games released over the years that I just don't get the hubbub over, and I stick to my own sort of guilty pleasures sometimes.  For example, I've always loved Star Wars games, even though they're not quite critically favored.

Of course, as I get closer to the top of the list, some will be pretty obvious.  Sometimes, you just can't overlook greatness.  heheh

what are some of the ones that you didn't see the hubbub over? I'm curious what to expect to not see make the list.

Well, for instance #100 on my list is Halo 3.  It's going to be the only Halo title on the countdown, simply because I never really bought into the hype surrounding Halo and Halo 2.

Again, this is somewhat due to personal experiences with games - but I lived out in the boonies, about 15 minutes out of town on a good day.  Most of my friends lived *in* town, so I was always content with single player games.  Yeah, multiplayer was cool and all, and I definitely played my fair share of Halo multiplayer matches, but I always focused on single player campaigns...

The hype and success surrounding the first two games left me feeling a bit confused, because the part of the game I was focusing on wasn't anything that special.  I didn't feel it was, anyway.

Also, only one Call of Duty game on my list.  They were cool once upon a time, but now they're just over-saturating the market, I find, bringing almost nothing new to the table.

But, that's just me!

I've never played a single Halo or COD game myself haha. I'm not even opposed to trying one. Just never made its way into one of my consoles. Anyway, keep up the good work. I've actually read your non-RFGen blog in the past and found it quite enjoyable.
