So, this is an epic tale, just kind of a little comedic Blog to get people to chuckle. Everything from this point on is 100% the truth, no joke, but yes, it is funny.

So, as many know, I sold my Nintendo Wii in order to purchase an Xbox (yes, with an an) 360. I purchased it for $209.90 on ebay with free shipping on June 25th, which is not that bad of a deal for a 60GB model with the HDMI ports. The link is here if you want to check it out. So, I await this package, and it comes on the 26th of June. I hook it up, get it working great, and couldn't be happier.

At around the same time, I purchased a copy of Burnout Paradise, for $15 shipped on GameTZ, a fairly good deal as well. It was shipped out on the 26th. Being myself, I am a habitual 'Mail Checker' in that I get anxious awaiting a parcel in the mail. I checked the mail, as well as outside and in between the screen door and front door every day, including Sunday.

Today comes, and when I get home from summer band, I immediately go to the front door to check if the game came. It did not. However, I spotted on the porch a box, covered in a plastic bag, to prevent water damage. I lift the bag up, and see that it is addressed to me, Robert. The return address is GeekDeal, the same people that sent me my 360. I rushed inside with it and open it up; another 360. That's right. They had some sort of communication error (or SOMETHING) and ended up sending me TWO! I freaked out, and immediately asked my good friend Adam B. (bickman2k) what the heck I should do. He told me to do the right thing, and contact them. But, if they wanted ME to pay return shipping, say no way and keep it.

So, I called their office and left a message, and I await their return phone call. I just thought I might share my story with you. I think that this can be summed up in "EPIC CORPORATE FAIL", would you not agree? Would you have done the same thing, in contacting them? Would you have kept it? Let's hear those thoughts, and I will keep you updated! Cheesy

I'd have contacted them, I believe in Karma.

I would have kept it. For sure.

My best "two-fer" happened about 6 years ago, when I was still collecting sports cards. I pulled a redemption for a Curtis Martin autograph limited to 50 copies. They sent me two of them, so I gave the other one to my dad. That card books at $450.

That is an incredibly tough decision. Keep a free 360 and live with the guilt of benefiting from someone else's screw up, or send it back and have a guilt free conscience. If it were me, in this case, I would do the same thing you did. Send it back at their expense. But if it was, say, Microsoft's screw up, I would probably keep it. In other words, help out the little guy for his mistake and screw the giant corporation.
Hopefully, the place that sent it to you will do the right thing and realize how honest you are being and either let you keep it, or send you a couple free games when you send it back to them.

I agree with NES_Rules. Help out the litte businesses and benefit from the big ones mistakes.

I agree with Rajaat the Warbringer. But I have 2 360's and 2 Xbox Live Gold accounts. LOL i would keep it and pay for it.

I'd keep it and sell both of them and buy a PS3. Or some beer.

See if they charge you for it twice. I'd contact them either way, because there's a good chance they'll catch up on their inventory down the road and invoice you for it.

But if they expect you to pay for shipping, I'd cry foul and tell them it was their mistake and if they want their system back, they're going to have to pay for the cost of sending it back, plus give you restitution for having to deal with the issue that's not your problem.

Contact em all the same.  If they want you to pay for it, dont.  If they refuse to pay shipping on the second, dont return till they do.  If they say keep it, sell it to me.  I dont have a 360 and I'll pay you $125 for it.

I'll give you $126

I would contact them. But I would've waited a couple of days to see if they realise. Since it's a console I would contact back, maybe not if it was a game, unless it was a duplicate. I don't know what I'm saying Tongue

I'd keep it and don't tell them about it.

Considering the Xbox 360's failure rate, having a spare unit is not a luxury. Wink

Bear in mind that you could get into legal trouble if you don't tell them about it. I don't know about the US but in the UK the consumer laws on mistakes like this say something along the lines of you can only keep it if they allow you, and if you don't let them know, how can they allow you?

It's hardly an "EPIC CORPORATE FAIL". If $10,000,000 was debited to your bank account by mistake, that would be an EPIC CORPORATE FAIL.

Well, 'Epic Corporate Fail' is just an opinion, of course. I was also wondering about the overall legality of me just keeping it, and I had a feeling that it might not be legal. Hence one of the reasons why I did call them. I talked to them this morning and they said they would e-mail me a return shipping label for free, but no mention of a reward. Oh well, at least my conscience is free.

@James: In Belgium, if they send it to you they can't make you pay for it afterwards.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA OH WOW! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I think you did the right thing in contacting them...just so it couldnt come back in bite you in the ass later on. Cant beleave they didnt even offer you a game or at least a coupon for your honesty

"Epic corporate fail" has taken on new meanings in the last few years. This is not it.

Oh, sending it back is the right thing to do.

returned it. i can't live with the karma.

1+ post but I agree.  Sending it back was the best thing and shows you to be an honest person.  That's rarely a bad thing.  It may not pay off right now but eventualy it will.

Still, my offer of $125 was quite valid.  Having 4 360 games and no system means I'll get one eventualy.
