well, its that time again! time to clear out the old backlog! and fortunately, unlike last year, all i want to buy between now and school happens to be lollypop chainsaw (although we all know im gonna buy a metric crap-ton of classic stuff between now and then). so now, a quick look at this year's debacle!
Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne Borderlands Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Rage Saints Row Diamond 2-Pack Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter Legend of Zelda, The: Ocarina of Time Pokmon Snap Legend of Zelda, The: The Wind Waker Metroid Prime Double Dragon II: The Revenge Faxanadu Super C Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project Donkey Kong Country Star Fox Super Mario World Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time Pikmin Punch-Out!! Contra: Hard Corps Sonic & Knuckles Legend of Dragoon, The Star Wars: Rebel Assault II Bully Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Ace Combat 04 Shattered Skies
lots of mess this year...2 zelda games, an rpg or two...and multi disk games everywhere!
to be fair, a lot of these are started already, so its more like 20-25 full games...although that doesnt make it look too much better!
as for game 1, i think im finally gonna finish story mode for COD:MW3....but what to play next?!!
till next time ~Neo Backlog count: 259!? geez!
Last night I finished Rollergames, but only after discovering that I had left my NES running... for over two weeks! Shortly after finishing Super Mario I decided on Rollergames after a recommendation by Crabmaster2000. To my delight I found the game to be quite fun, and within about an hour (stretched over a few days) I found myself at 6-2... where I stayed for at least another hour (this time spread out over a week).
Which leads me to last night. After finally overcoming 6-2 I made a beeline to the last boss. He was difficult at first, but once I got over the fact that all of his moves cancel out your moves (even your special) he went down pretty quick. For some reason he put me in mind of the martial arts boss in the first Tenchu game (I can't remember what his name was).
Once my kid stops playing Angry Birds Space I'll upload and post my photos.
Now that I've finished another game, I think that my basement setup (with the projector) will now be the focus of my Retro Summer Game Challenge. To simplify things I'll just use the list from last time, but I'll leave it up to you guys. Which one should I play next?
Rollergames Conquest of the Crystal Palace Ironsword Dr. Chaos (I know, not a pure action game) Rollergames Total Recall Ultimate Stuntman Tombs and Treasures Swords and Serpents

Well, in a move that surprised even me... I've started to investigate the PC world of gaming lately. As such, I figured I'd use that as an excuse to compile my Summer Gaming list with PC releases. I figured I'd try to make a good mix of old games, new games, big budget titles, indie games -- and all of varying genres. So here's what I've come up with.
Hopefully it'll be an interesting Summer!
Well, it is that time of year again (never mind that it is actually Spring. School let out last week and therefore Summer has begun for me!). Time for the nice weather, the beach, the sun, and staying inside playing video games all day. This year, I'm going to try to beat 10 games, as well as get at least 5 platinum trophies on PS3 games.
The Games to Beat:
1.) Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (SNES) - This game is a carryover from last year that I never got around to playing. I plan to rectify that this year.
2.) Virtual Boy Wario Land (VB) - Same as above. Hopefully I will dust off my poor, lonely Virtual Boy and beat this game.
3.) Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii) - I have already started this game, but it will definitely take quite a bit of time to beat.
4.) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS) - I loved the DS games, and I've always wanted to play this game.
5.) Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil (PS2) - I've always been interested in playing the Klonoa games, and now is my chance.
6.) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable (PSP) - I started this a few months back, but stopped playing it. I want to finish the game so I can compare it to P4.
7.) Pikmin (GC) - I've owned the game for years, but I have never played it.
8.) Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (DS) - I've started the game numerous times but it has failed to connect with me unlike the GBA Fire Emblems have. I plan to play it through this time.
9.) God of War II (PS3) - I never finished the game on PS2, so I think it is time for me to finish it in (mostly) HD bloody g(l)ory. Heh. Puns.
10.) Clash at Demonhead (NES) - My NES has sat idle for pretty much two years, so I think this will be a good game to play.
The Game to Plat:
1.) Killzone 2 - I have been 1 trophy away from the Plat for years now. I just need to beat the game on the hardest difficulty.
2.) Batman: Arkham City - I need to finish off New Game Plus, and then beat the Campaign Challenges. The GOTY comes out soon with new story DLC, so I may play through that as well if I pick up GOTY cheap.
3.) 3D Dot Game Heroes - Only a few more bosses to collect in the Bestiary, then I need to beat the game on Spelunker mode.
4.) God of War - Only a few more trophies left.
5.) Tony Hawk Ride - I feel the need to complete at least one terrible game this summer.
I may add/change some games as time goes on, but I think I've got a pretty good list. So, what are you waiting for. Go start yours!
Most gamers that have been around for any amount of time have experienced Super Mario Bros in some fashion. I'm no exception and grew up with Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2 and Super Mario Bros 3 as staples in my gaming education. All three are regularly named for their high quality, impact on the industry and most importantly for being fun.

Over the years my gaming tastes have waxed and waned, constantly evolving as I experience (or re-experience) more titles, reflect on past adventures and struggle to overlook my nostalgic feelings. The Mario brothers are often at the fore front of such conflict. With all three of these games being so important to my gaming career (I like to pretend I get paid) did one stand above the others? If so, which one?

I've had questions from users of the site about how to display the banner showing their personal collection stats and linking it back to their collection page here. This information is here on the site in a couple places, but I wanted to put together some simple instructions for those of you that would like to display your RF Generation collection in your signature.
Depending on the forum, the options you will have for setting up a signature will be to use either BBCode or HTML.
For BBCode, you can use the following code which will display your banner and make it clickable back to your collection page. For this example, you will need to replace the braces {} with brackets [] and username with your RF Generation username.
{URL=http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/collection.pl?name=username&folder=Collection}{img width=468 height=60}http://www.rfgeneration.com/images/banners/generated/collection/username.png{/img}{/URL}
For HTML, you can use the following code which will display your banner and make it clickable back to your collection page. For this example, you will need to replace the braces {} with pointy brackets and username with your RF Generation username.
{a href="http://www.rfgeneration.c...i-bin/collection.pl?name=username&folder=Collection" target="_blank"}{img src="http://www.rfgeneration.c...ers/generated/collection/username.png" /}{/a}
Rfgeneration Community,
I just recently moved from America to Sicily, Italy and I need your assistance. I was very fearful that moving out of country was really going to tamper with my collecting and it has to and extent.
But I was in the local Gamestop out here and I was looking through the Pal selection of PS2 titles and I noticed a couple games that seemed interesting. That were exclusives out here. So while I do miss my American games I do embrace the fact that I can start over in the sense of a new selection of games. I bought my first PAL game today and it is called Splatter Master and it looks awesome ( Still currently need to buy European PS2).
What I need help with from are amazing community here at Rfgenerations is some suggestions on PAL exclusives that I should keep a eye out for. I thought I knew my stuff when it came to gaming but I just got a big wake up call. Please Help and share as much knowledge as you can with this new market to me.
My experience with what we now call retro gaming began in 1989 when I received an NES Action Set for Christmas '89. Included with the NES were two controllers, a Zapper, and a copy of Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt. Needless to say, I played Super Mario Bros. that entire day. Shortly thereafter I received SMB2 and appreciated it's odd gameplay and new enemies. Contra came shortly after that and I had many good memories of playing co-op with friends through what was at that time the most difficult game I'd ever played. Over the years I also had Super Mario Bros. 3, Bucky O'Hare, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mega Man 4 and 6, The Adventures of Lolo, Super C, and Tiger Heli. I owned the NES with these games until around 1996 or so.
I never had a Super Nintendo or a Genesis for whatever reason. I remember asking Santa for one but it never showed and I kept playing my NES. I got a Playstation 1 in 1997 but I don't really remember many games that caught my interest until Gran Turismo dropped. THIS was *the game* for me until a year later when Gran Turismo 2 came out, which replaced it. These games along with a few others such as Metal Gear Solid and Einhander kept my interest until the PS2 came out.
With the PS2, naturally, came Gran Turismo 3 and 4. So many PS2 games have gone through my hands that I couldn't begin to list them all. There are a ridiculous amount of A1 quality titles available for PS2 and I'd still go so far as to say that the PS2 is the best value for money in gaming right now.
I bought a PS3 in 2009 and an Xbox 360 in 2010. I started coming to the realization that gaming is moving towards becoming something where they just push games out as quick as they possibly can (many in an unfinished state), collect your money at point of sale, attempt to collect more with DLC, then sell you the same game with a new skin next year. Gamestop (evil destroyer of FuncoLand) is basically out to rip you off. Then we now have digital distribution. A way that they can charge full price without actually giving you something that you can hold in your hand, look at the artwork, lend to a friend, trade in for value, etc. Now your digital copy's validity is checked with a license online; essentially you're asking permission to use something you paid for. And with the latest announcements of the good possibility that new consoles may actually block the playing of used games, I'm done. They're now operating under the assumption that I NEED to have their latest games and I most certainly do not.
I've sold most of my newer game stuff and I am now down to 3 Xbox 360 games and 4 PS3 games. My gaming time is now almost entirely spent on Super Nintendo games, which as I've discovered, are just as fun to play as anything made now.
I have some fun now that I've finally finished my new video about the Naki Pro Player. You might remember me asking about some information here a couple months ago. Well now I just decided to show you all if mine works (it does) and some fun we can all have with it!

On April 28 2012 the Cowlitz Gamers for Kids Video Game Show was held in Kelso Washington. I wanted to report back on the show to you as I believe I was the only RFGener there. A real reporter would have gotten this story out much sooner but as I have a predilection for not writing, this story is old news.
There is a bunch to read but there are pictures at the end!

Hey everyone my brother and I did some browsing and shopping last Saturday and today and well probably tomorrow too. Saturday we went to a neighborhood garage sale and saw nothing. Then we went out to Good Bytes and picked a few PC Games A-Train which has the 5.5 Floppy and 3 in Diskettes in it 100% complete! FOR a WHOPPING $0.99! But that's not all we also picked up Microsoft Flight Simulator (The First Release) Complete for also $0.99! We really didn't spend much on Saturday but after Good Bytes we went to HPB and we saw a few items. They had a couple of good things like a Sega, Xbox, and so on but well we had everything! BUT my brother looked up and at the top of the shelf was an Atari 2600 CIB which is a second one for us but this one was much cheaper! We got it for $20.00 and it came with 12 games some of which we didn't have sadly mostly commons. The games were: *Blackjack - Green Text Label *Boxing *Breakout - Text Label *Dodge 'em - Text Label *Football - Gold Text Label *Home Run - Picture Label *Human Cannonball - Text Label *Missile Command - Picture Label *Pac-Man - (FOR SALE!!!!!) *Space Invaders - Text Label *Space War (FOR SALE!!!!) *Warlords
SO not bad! Also at HPB we picked up Army Men PC For $7.00 and Railroad Tycoon II With the Blues CD for $5.00. So then on to today a great great day! The weather was beautiful and so was the hunt. We took some books out to HPB and as we waited until the finished and calling us up we looked around of course we went to the game section and in just 5 days they added a Sega Saturn - already have two (both versions) so pass on that. But we did however pick up Spawn PS1 for $4.00, Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast which was in the Clearance section for $0.50! We also picked up Phantom Brave for $2.00 in the Clearance section (which I think was our best purchase at HPB today), and Oregon Trail II Guide for $2.00. BUT my brother got something that isn't video game related BUT is Retro Related a stack of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Comics! at $0.50 a piece!!! Then our final stop we went to was Out "Favorite Store" I traded some movies for Adventures of Lolo COMPLETE in box which if we would of bought it it would of been $25.00 so Great deal because I got rid of some Common movies. Then with the cash from HPB we bought a very very minty copy of Tetris 2 for $15.00! We also bought Super Punch Out for $20.00 (WE NEED A MANUAL ASAP!!!) and the biggest find of the day for a whopping $40.00!!! A JUNGLE GREEN N64!! CIB everything looks BRAND NEW!!!!! So there is our most recent Game Hunts with more to come. Please comment and enjoy.

Getting a little tired of playing sports and puzzlers I decided to conquer a couple more respectable genres this time, action platforming and scrolling shooter.
Up first was Kick Master by Taito. I've had good experience with many Taito games so I had high hopes for Kick Master. The opening scene depicts your brother being slain by some monsters and saying something along the lines of "My steel was no match for them. Only your awesome kicking skills can overcome this evil!". Pretty epic intro!
The game was ok. It had some RPG elements like levelling up by collecting items when you defeat monsters, which increases your life and magic meters. Magic spells are hidden throughout the game. 1-2 in most levels. Unfortunately most of them are fairly useless and its takes some grinding to get your magic meter filled enough to use a few decent spells.
Its a pain getting so close to the monsters early on, but as you learn new attacks with each level the gameplay gets much better. All in all it was a fun game and definitely one worth checking out.

Decided to go with one of the oddest shmups, or even games in general, that I've ever played, Zombie Nation.
You play as a floating, disembodied, fat, balding, japanese head who has decided that only he can save America from an Alien who crash landed on a meteor and is taking over famous monuments and the US military. Your weapon of choice? Some good old fashioned vomit and popping your eyes out of their sockets. Want to get more eyes and barf (AKA upgrade your weapons) simply torch buildings until zombies (turned that way by the alien) fall out and eat them before they hit the ground. You know its that same old story you've heard a million times.
The controls are a bit floaty, the weapons never change and the game is super short. It does have some cool music, levels and definitely has some interesting boss battles though (old man with rippling muscles tossing axes at you in his speedo!). If your looking for a solid shooter you can do much better, but if you like quirky games its a must try. I loved it despite its flaws.

I've been plugging away at the Pennent mode on Bases Loaded. I'm not sure how many games I need to win, but I'm about 9-10 games in now so hopefully I've put a good dent in it and can finish it up soon.
Hey Everyone! In cased you missed the first blog entry of our collection a little review. My last post was all our Nintendo Items boxed (except systems will get to those later). This next blog is all our Nintendo stuff loose. It does take a lot of time to unpack everything and put it on the table all nice and neat BUT I love looking at our collection so it's all good. The first few photos are of our NES games that our loose (can you spot the "rare" or "hard to find" titles?). Then NES Extras, Famicom. Then the second set of photos will be our SNES games that are loose (again can you spot the "rare or "hard to find" games?), SNES Extras. Then Super Famicom. Then our next pictures are of Game Boy/GBC/GBA I took pictures of all the games in one Photo, then close ups for 4 more photos. Then Finally is our N64 Games, then N64 Extras. The best picks of our loose carts I would say is our Dragon Warriors 2-4 on NES, SNES would be all our RPG's most def Earthbound. Game Boy/GBC/GBA I would say Mega Man 2 or all of the Super Mario Lands. Super Famicom is Super Mario World, LOZ, Final Fantasy 4 & 5. Then for our N64 would be our Japanese carts and probably Harvest Moon and a few others. So here you go our Cart Only Nintendo Items. ENJOY! Very Picture Heavy!
