Valve has released information on it's recent security breech. In an article posted on "Opposable Thumbs" (Ars Technica's Gaming News Site), Valve admits to the hacking of it's popular gaming site "Steam". They go into enough detail to lead on that personal and credit card information has been compromised and that in a situation similar to the PSN incident, loyal users may have their personal information stolen.
The article also includes the letter that Valve sent out to it's users earlier this week advising them of the situation and warning them to "watch your credit card activity and statements closely". They are still investigating the incident, so at this time it not clear if anything actually was stolen, however, we are sure to hear more on this issue as Valve releases information.

This is one of the few times when my future plans were made a reality. I started the night off with Roller Games. Its a surprisingly fun game. Its like a fast paced beat em up, with some levels having a strong focus on platforming or dodging obstacles. Out of all the games for this challenge that I wasnt familiar with so far, this one is probably my favorite. The last couple levels have some pretty challenging platforming parts, but they are not broken just challenging. And unlimited continues makes it not so bad either. A person could easily beat the game in less than 30 minutes, but because of all my deaths in the last 2 levels it took me just over an hour.
Stuck in some Widget next. I've been looking forward to checking this game out for a long time now. It was pretty disapointing. Its not that its bad, its just so mediocre in every way. Plus for an alien he has the worst weapon ever, even when its at full power. Before its at full power it might as well be a knife instead of a gun. It took several tries to figure out how to proceed. After the first stage your given the option to choose the next 3 levels in any order. Problem is that you need to complete some stages before others in order to unlock new abilities to help you traverse specific stages. After a little trial and error I was able to figure out the route and get moving. The game is super short and fairly easy when you know what to do.
Still need a new free screen capture program if anyone is aware of a decent one. I dont need anything fancy, just something that will reliably capture a specific region. Or even a whole screen and then allow me to crop it afterwards.

Future Plans - Craving some Tiny Toon Adventures now. I used to own the first one as a child, but was never quite able to conquer the last level. Its about time I take it down.
It's almost Black Friday time! Which leads me to an interesting question today: have any of the stores in your area announced any good deals on video games? Does it seem like in your area that the focus is more on toys than video games? Post links if you have them!
Went for the Joker's throat right away tonight. His other minions didnt put up much of a fight, but the Joker himself gave me a good run for my money. About half the video is going to be me replaying the last level and dying to the Joker. At least theres some awesome tunes in that level.
Followed that up with the unusual game Circus Caper. Tim has to rescue his sister from the evil hordes of carnival employees. And I do mean hordes. The sky basically splits open and spews forth demonic carnies from start to end. As long as you get to each boss with a decent arsenal of secondary weapons they are all pushovers though. Plus health drops are fairly abundant. The game seems a lot harder than it is at first.
With the circus in flames behind me I decided to tear up the streets with some inline skates. Roller Games is a lot of fun and something that I've over looked for a long time. Got to stage 5 fairly easily and spent the rest of my time dying and retrying it. It seems to be the last stage so I'm going to go hard on it tomorrow night and see it I cant knock this one off my list as well. Check it out if you havnt played it yet. Its a lot of fun.
I gave my screen capture another try tonight and give up. Please let me know if your aware of a decent, free screen capture software I could use to replace Greenshot. I'd really like to keep including the end screens in these blogs.

Sorry for the long time off. I took some vacation time that I needed to use up before I lost it and part way through that time my inlaws came in (and are still in) for a surprise visit. My game time is usually significantly lower when I'm at home, but with my inlaws around it was nearly non-existant. I'm back to work now and that means I'm also back to gaming.
For the first few days I put any spare time I had into Dr. Mario. I was expecting a quick victory. My goal was to beat level 24 on medium speed. 24 was the number to beat because the game loops back to 24 after its been beaten. I thought I had done this in the past quite easily, but in retrospect the speed was most likely on slow. Medium proved to be quite challenging and took many many failed attempts to overcome.
I wanted something easier afterwards so I put in one of my all time favorites, Bubble Bobble. Its not that the game is super easy, its just that with the infinite continues combined with very short levels, even the hard parts can be fun. Forgot how long it would take me and has to split it into two parts. Not a problem with the handy password system.
Followed that up with a childhood fav. MC Kids. Its a great little platformer that adds a bit of flare to the standard run to the end formula. Each level has 1 to 2 M cards hidden in it and your job is to track down enough relevant ones to move along to the next area. Its got some very interesting levels through out it and even gets fairly challenging near the end.
My screenshot program seems to be giving me a lot of problems lately (like on Bonk's Adventure). Can anyone recommend a good free program to replace Greenshot, which is what I'm currently using?

(only 1 pic today since I'm getting tired of taking dozens of screen captures and uploading them only to findout they are blank)

Hey everyone bought Call of Duty MW3 Hardened Edition today. Let me say not the best Collector's Edition game, but still it's COD. I will post pictures later but I figured I might as well let the cat out of the bag first. The game play is the same as MW2 and Black Ops, but the levels in Team Deathmatch are pretty cool. The Hardened Edition comes with a pretty cool Steelbook Case with only the game Disc as it is the only disc in the set. It comes with a registration card for Elite and a One Year Membership to Elite. It also comes with a Male and Female Avatar for your Xbox 360 Dashboard. The coolest thing other than the Steelbook case is the Journal it's awesome and detailed really well. The COD games are one of the better series out there (I am a true Halo Fan) but the game is played on the same game engine they have used for quite a few games. I mean it's classy but still needs to be updated. Overall I give this game an 8 out of 10 just based on the graphics. I am proud to have this in my collection. It took me 4 stores to find a copy of the Hardened Edition and well Best Buy had 4 behind the counter. Game Stop never carries collector's editions in stock unless somebody forgets or decides not to pick up their copy and then they get a one or two copies later from their Distribution centers. Gamers another local store (I didn't go there to get MW3) come to find out they didn't have any ordered. I tried two Game Stops (they had plenty behind the counter but were only for the Pre-Orders and there were plenty). Both Game Stops had midnight releases and for those hardcore COD Gamers out there (me not being so hardcore COD, again Halo!) I was surprised to see so many copies there. But the school I am doing my observations at kids had their parents call them in sick just so they could stay home and play the game!! Now that is dedication! I mean once Halo 4 comes out I will be requesting two days off from work! But this game is pretty good I always like a good military based game, now all we need is for COD to actually do a future battle game like they at one time planned along with Medal of Honor (because we all know how their last game turned out, I mean the PS3 one as awesome with an updated Medal of Honor Frontline copy on the disc as well - The best Medal of Honor Game Ever!). Hope you all enjoy and look out for pictures in the near future.
Turok Rage Wars $3, Quake II $3, Dr. Mario 64 $8, Fushigi no Dungeon: Furai no Shiren 2 $7. I found these at the arcade and I was surprised to find the Japanese exclusive there. There is a good selection of Japanese game but I've never seen an n64 one there.

Star Soldier $10, Dual Heroes $5, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing $5, Bassmasters [Blue/] $5, Turok 2 [Gray] $Free, Wave Race 64 $Free. Not the greatest deals but it was buy two get one free.

Went back to the arcade. Found the Ocarina of Time for $12 and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six [Black/] for $3. Ocarina of Time won't be added into any of my stats as it is not a japanese EXCLUSIVE. Though I thought it would be my only chance to find it at that price without shipping.

My girlfriend found an ad on criagslist with a couple games she really wanted like Gauntlet and Mario 64. So we decided to split it 20/30, I paid $20 for what is below. She paid 30 because she took mario 64, gauntlet, another copy of golden eye and a few other games. The rest of the games were in awful condition which is why I didn't take them. I already have the two games I took but there were 2 copies of golden eye and she has no use for madden 64. The 2 gray controllers are unusable as the joystick are far too loose. The purple one if pretty good. So it wasn't anything I really needed but oh well.

Duck Dodgers $13, Nuclear Strike $5

Bought F1 Racing Championship offline for $8 plus shipping. It is one of the four PAL exclusives and probably the rarest of the four, especially complete. The box is a bit smashed but i'll wet it and see if I can flatten it out. Pretty good deal on it I believe.

My game total is changing once again as I just found out Aidyn Chronicles has a gray and black cart. So unfortunately my total will be 401 now.

Only a few days left until The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim releases. I know in my household there is excitement (and a bit of angst) about the release. You see, I know the game is probably going to be good - it looks pretty interesting. The issue is, so do the other people in the house. Mind you, there are 4 360 and 4 tvs for said 360s, for the 4 of us in the house, however, my roommate seems to think (and probably rightly so) that she is going to be a Skyrim widow for a while. Many of you have heard of WoW widows - women who were ignored by their husbands who were religiously playing WoW. Now mind you, those marriages probably weren't going to work anyway if WoW broke them up - seriously, if you are happy in the marriage, you probably were playing the game together. In any case, many people are relating Skyrim to the whole WoW situation and the darn game hasn't come out yet. Which leads me to the question, how many of you play games with your significant other/spouse? Do you think that the people going on about the whole Skyrim Widow thing are blowing it out of propotion? What are you thoughts on the whole thing?
Welcome to Season 2 of GameCenter CX. This season commemorates the beginning of full episodes, which include various segments besides the game challenges. In Season 2, new segments were added to this show, which include visits to game centers and featured game collections, as well as the original industry interviews from the first season.
This week's challenge features Atlantis no Nazo (Mystery of Atlantis), a game released by Sunsoft for the Famicom that was set to compete with Super Mario Bros. It contains 100 different stages, power ups, and warps. This video and the Challenger video later in the season were the ones that initially got me interested in GameCenter CX, so I'll be more than happy to discuss these!

So I've sort of gotten into this habit lately of updating my blog everytime I beat a game. And that sort of overlaps the fact that I've been using this blog to chronicle my budding Dreamcast collection over the past two months (over 20 games now!). And THAT overlaps the fact that as I'm collecting DC games, I'm also trying very hard to spend time playing them and attempting to actually beat games instead of just building up a huge backlog of untouched games. So as such, I bring you Street Fighter Alpha 3.
Now let me first say that although I'm a huge fan of Street Fighter II, I really had limited experience with the Alpha series. I had played a bit of the first game's Game Boy Color port, as well as the third game's Game Boy Advance port. And although the GBA game is certainly impressive, it didn't really prepare me for the near-perfect arcade experiene I got out of the Dreamcast. The graphics in Alpha 3 are incredible, with bright colors popping off the screen. And the animations are fluid as hell, even at breakneck speeds.
Now first off I encountered nothing but frustration. I picked my usual Street Fighter, Chun-Li only to find that none of her moves worked. It's a strange feeling to control Chun-Li and tap away at a kick button furiously to find that she does do the expected move. But after a bit of reading, it turns out this has to do with the Isms, or play-styles. Changing Chun-Li's style to X-Ism brought her move set far closer to that of Street Fighter II (except I had no projectile attack). Once I figured this out, I was able to make my way through arcade mode pretty quickly. It was a blast taking on all these unfamiliar characters, having to fight Juni and Juli at the same time, and eventually ending up in a showdown with M. Bison once again.
But perhaps the craziest thing is that I beat the game using a standard Dreamcast controller. Not by choice, I tell you. I just can't find a fightpad I can afford. Sure I have an Agetec stick, but I'm no good at fighting games with a stick -- those are purely for shmups. So in the end I guess I'm just slowly getting used to this stupid controller. Something I never thought would happen!
Hey everyone! I picked up my copy of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Collector's Edition on Tuesday at Game Stop. I pre-ordered and paid the game off a while back and couldn't wait to get it. I think the Uncharted Series is one of the best game series out there there, (well besides Halo). I know there are some great series releases this month such as Elder Scrolls, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Halo Anniversary Edition, and last month was Battlefield 3. But this one is a great release. The Collector's Edition is pretty cool the game comes in a steel book case which is in a wardrobe case. In the wardrobe case is two drawers the top drawer holds a necklace with the ring from the first game on it. The second drawer holds the belt buckle with a horseshoe that Drake wears in the games. I for one will never wear either because it de-values the game with the items being used. The steel book case is pretty cool because it has a great artwork on it the game is inside the wardrobe hanging on the door. The final item in the wardrobe is the statue. The statue is pretty detailed, I didn't take it out of the plastic because I want to keep it brand new, it also comes with an AK-47 a basic gun in the game that Drake likes to use. The game play is pretty much the same as the rest but it is exciting and can't wait to begin and finish the game (I have to finish the second game first). Also my brother purchased the strategy guide for the game, the Collector's Edition guide to be exact. The guide is a hardcover book with the Soundtrack included for the game. Hope you all enjoyed the unveiling and here are some pictures to go with it.

I've had a few more issues with some sprites not showing up in games over the last few days. Luckily I've got Bickman2k on the job and he's been helping me working through it. I think were getting close to figuring it out.
I didnt however manage to find a few games to fill the void until that gets done. Started off with some Bonk's Adventure. I've beaten this game on my TG16 a while back, but this was my first try on the NES. The controls felt a little looser than I would have liked, but not game breakingly bad. I managed to limp my way through the entire thing on my first try. I was a little worried I wasnt going to make it at the start, but after figuring out a couple of the bonus games I was able to rack up a safe amount of extra men.
I had a few games out while I was trying to decide what was next and my son wanted to see Panic Restaurant so we gave it a go. As far as time spent playing compared to money spent this has to be the worst of the expensive NES games. I finished it in just over 30 minutes with very little trouble. My son played it for a bit afterwards though too and I think he is a fan, just because most of the enemies and weapons are funny to him.
Thought I may as well cross another rarity off the list and popped in some Bubble Bobble 2. Its a decent game, but I feel the first one is significantly better. I was getting low on lives as I neared the end of the game and lucked out with an item (some kind of star wand) that warped me to the second last boss fight. Because of that I was able to finish the game with no continues!

I hope everyone survived their Halloween night and didn't get too scared. While yesterday may have been frightening, October certainly wasn't scaring away our submitters this month. Not only did we have a good month here at RFGeneration, we had a record breaking month at RFGeneration! That's right, in October 2011, we had more submissions in one month than any other since we starting tracking submissions in November 2006. Our previous record was in May of this year with an amazing 9,587 submissions. So you better believe this month was OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!! In fact, RFG members made an astounding 12,790 submissions in just 31 days. Thank you to all of you who made that happen.
Now, we normally try to not single out any particular member for their submissions since they are all important in their own way, but this month special credit is due to Tynstar. Because, you see, 10,000 of the monthly submissions were made by him. That's right, in one month he alone submitted more than our entire community in any other month. He even celebrated his 7th year at RFGeneration this month, so its especially nice to see someone who has been around for so long still so active in the database. So if you see Tynstar around on the forums or in person give him a pat on the back, he really deserves it.
For the rest of you, you won't be overshadowed by Tynstar's accomplishments. There were 72 other members who made submissions this month, so thanks goes out to all of you. The rest of members who made 100 or more submissions in October was Shadow Kisuragi, Izret101, Necron99, ixtaileddemonfox, NES_Rules, douglie007, and raffa1985. And of course, we have our dedicated team of submission reviewers, who have to sift through the thousands of submissions every month. Our top reviewers were Shadow Kisuragi, Tynstar, and Paully3433.
If you're wondering what all these fine people were making so many submissions for, they were adding 884 images, adding 222 games, adding 50 hardware pieces, and editing 11,418 game pages.
Thanks everyone who made this record breaking month happen.
A quick blurb today reflecting on my Halloween - this Halloween, I learned a valuable lesson...real life physics are not always like game physics...
Let me start at the beginning. Halloween we had a movie viewing party, so, in the early afternoon my roommate and I went shopping for Halloween goodies at local stores. The local Spirit Halloween store was a bust, so we decided to go to Joanns to see if they had anything good. We found some good things, then went to leave. Someone had so kindly decided to part their F250 truck next to us, in our spot! I could not back out without scraping the side of their car (and my husband's car at the same time). I decided to drive forward since there was no one in the spot ahead of me - but there was one major malfunction - both my roommate and I had forgotten about the parking stall concrete barrier in front of us. I went right over the first one (there were two - one for each side). I could not get back off the first one (darn you front wheel drive). So, we decided the best course of action was to go over the second one. Worked like a charm for the front wheels....the back wheels got caught on the first barrier...I had to give up and call my husband for help and he pushed while I hit the gas. This worked for the first barrier, but not the second. He got in while my roommate pushed and was able to gun it over the second one - success! The car was free... However, I am reminded, oddly enough of the Ghostbusters video game - the second one on the NES. If only my husband's car could hop like the Ecto1!!!
Lesson learned.
Happy Halloween everyone!
Enjoy the quick video I snapped of everyone doing the Time Warp at our annual Rocky Horror Picture Show shadowcast. In case everyone's not aware, language may be NSFW. Enjoy your holiday!
