Now at the second day in and I have been able to cross 7 games off the list so far. Tonight Mega Man 2, 3 and 4 all fell to the might of my M Buster. I dont know if any other night of gaming could match this one though. Maybe I should have saved those 3 for a later date in case I get burnt out and need an extra push. Good tunes tonight too, some of my favorite on the NES. Most people know (and love) the music from Wily's stages from Mega Man 2. But I think the final Wily fight from 4 has my favorite song from the series. Its fantastic. Check it out if your not familiar.

Mega Man 2 gave me a lot more trouble than it should have. Unlike yesterdays "missing" bullet problem I had a case of "missing" Mega Man tonight. It only happened in two areas on the game. The first Wily Stage boss (big dragon). That wasnt to bad since he is super quick and easy, just had a couple accidental deaths since I didnt dodge at the correct time. The second spot was a lot more frustrating. The Wily Boss with that requires you use your Crash Bombs to blow away walls and turrets. That one was pretty close to impossible to beat without being able to see my character. Fortunately after several attempts he was clearly visible and I didnt have an issue. I tried messing around with the settings a bit, but it doesnt really give me to many options and none of them seemed relevant to the problem I was having.

Good news is that I didnt have any issues with the video on either of the other games.

Tomorrow I'll shoot for Mega Man 5 and 6. If time permits I'll be getting started on the Castlevania games afterwards also.

Here are tonight's screens:

2nd Day Completion Total = 7/100

First day of my challenge has officially started. To start things off right, I was able to beat all 3 Super Mario Bros games and had enough time left to defeat Dr. Wily once too! Just so that no one can call me a liar I decided to capture videos of each and every game I'm beating. I'll post screen shots of the ending screens on my blog here. The videos are really only for my own benefit, unless someone needs some additional proof of the game being finished.

I'm finding my playing is a lot sloppier when playing on the computer, as opposed to on a TV. The response feels pretty good (although there were a couple times when the video lagged for a few seconds and caused me to run down a pit or into an enemy) so it must just be a mental block or something. Hopefully I'll get used to it, because I should have had enough time for at least one more game in this sitting. I'm also finding that some things are not always showing up on the computer monitor. For example, ducking down in SMB 2 you normally flash after a while, the characters didnt flash and I just had to guess when they were charged for a super jump. Also Dr. Wily and a couple other bosses were even harder than normal because only some of their bullets were clearly visable and would often "blink" on and off the screen.

These arnt huge issues when playing games I'm familiar with, but when I get to uncharted territory its going to make things very difficult. Does this have something to do with the monitor being an LCD screen? Is there something I can do to remedy this issue?

Anyway here are tonights screen shots and tomorrow I'm looking forward to A LOT more Mega Man!!

Completed so far Oct.8th/2011 = 4/100

Back to our regularly scheduled episode.

In the last episode, Arino was re-introduced to the romance genre with Roommania #203, a life simulator for the Sega Dreamcast. Arino was very familiar with the game, but one scenario had escaped him - the romance scenario.

Arino armed himself with the game's strategy guide and worked through the scenario. However, at the end of the scenario, he was only able to read part of the text for the ending and thought he had lost the challenge. However, that text was documenting the past, and the rest of the text revealed the happy ending!

Poor Arino, he never wins when it comes to romance.

This week, we're introduced to a brand new segment of the show - the collections! At the beginning of the episode, the fansub providers were kind enough to leave in the second portion of the Hudson Collection, and in the next season this segment becomes a mainstay.

Arino's challenge this week is a game published by Hudson, known as Star Force. Shmup fans will immediately recognize this title, as it almost singlehandedly brought the genre to the forefront in Japan.

Win Condition: Earn the 50k bonus for defeating Rarios before it forms.

Bonus: A legendary video game idol is introduced on the show! Guess which video game character is modeled after him?

Hey everyone. My brother and I did a little shopping last week and a week before he bought a nice package off of eBay from Japan.  My brother and I ended up going to Lincoln, Nebraska last Thursday and spent a few dollars and got quite a few great things.  This is probably the best Game Hunt we have had in a long time.  First stop was Salvation Army on the way to Gamers my brother bought a PC game The Ancient Art of War At Sea complete in box for $2.00. Second stop Gamers number 1 in Lincoln.  I purchased a complete SEARS Video Arcade (Intellivision).  The box and everything is in great shape!  Paid $65.00 for it and it was a great purchase.  Along with the Intellivision. Also I bought Quake 2 complete in Box for N64 not shown in picture. I also bought a couple of strategy guides not shown in the pictures Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Rouge Spear and Fear Effect 1.  My brother purchased another item not pictured (sorry some items aren't going to be pictured they weren't around the table until after I took the shots, but if you want proof I can provide pictures LOL) he bought Persona 2 Collector's Edition for the PSP and Space Jam on Sega Saturn.  Then we were off to Best Buy and my brother got Bioshock 2 Collector's Edition for PC!  Then we went to Games 2 in Lincoln.  I bought a semi-rare PS1 game in Mint Condition Castlevania: Symphony of the Night! (Yes I bought the other PS1 Castelvania Game but will get to that later).  I also bought Ace Combat 6 Strategy Guide for Xbox 360.  My brother bought Star Ocean for PS1 and Deus Ex Human Revolution Strategy Guide.  Then we went to a place called the Gameroom in Downtown Lincoln, he bought Railroad Tycoon Deluxe for $8.00 and not even used.  Then we found out they had a second store so we went there and it was a good day for strategy guides.  I bought Romancing Saga, Tales of Vesperia, Donkey Kong 64 (with EB Games Cover), and Indiana Jones and the Emperors Tomb.  Then on the way out of town we went to a good Antique Store we bought only a couple of things my brother bought the Pac-Man card game from Milton Bradley in mind condition Copyright year 1980 and I bought the Nintendo Power for $3.00.  So that was the adventures in Lincoln. Then on our way home we stopped at CD Tradepost in Council Bluffs, I bought Three Stooges complete in Box for NES, and had Eternal Darkness for GameCube shipped from another store.
The next day we went around a few places in Omaha.  First place we went to was Barnes & Nobles I bought the two Sonic the Hedgehog Anniversary Comics, I need part one still.  Then we went to Gamers I bought the SECOND Castelvania game Castelvania Chronicles for $38.00, the ColecoVision Roller Ball Controller ($5.00), World Series Baseball 2 Sega Saturn ($4.00) and two ColecoVision Games Slither ($2.00) and Time Pilot ($2.00).  Then next up was another Strategy Guide find at Half Price Books I bought Silent Hill 1 BradyGames for $7.00, Fear Effect 2 ($3.00), and Gears of War 1 ($2.00). My brother bought SimCity 3000 and SimCity 4 Guides (The SimCity 3000 Guide is HUGE!)  Then we went to Best Buy I bought Suikoden III Previously Viewed but returned it because I already have it, bought Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Game & Guide. Then we went on to the second Gamers by Best Buy, jackpot!  Bought Super Mario Bros. 2, Narc, Ice Hockey, Karate Champ, and Commando CHEAP GAMES! Well Super Mario was $13.00 but worth it.  All games were complete, and I got the NES Controllers Complete in Box for Free, and I purchased Eternal Darkness strategy guide.  Then my brother and I went to Nebraska Furniture Mart and he bought Catherine: Collector's Edition.  Then we went to a place called TUVA and I purchased Sonic The Hedgehog trading cards not opened for $5.00.  Then we stopped at Best Buy on the way home and my brother purchased Epic Mickey Collector's Edition 50% OFF.  Today at Best Buy my brother purchased Rage Anarchy Edition and Strategy Guide and I purchased Ace Combat Joint Assault for 50% OFF.

The other day my brother purchased a bunch of Famicom Games from Japan.  The jewel of them all MOTHER! This game is Earthbound in the USA but having this copy on the Famicom in your collection is a must for any collector.  The other games were Kanshaku Tamanage Kantarō no Tōkaidō Gojūsan-tsugi (yes very very long title), Super Xevious (Gold Cartridge), Family Mahjong 2, Battle Fleet (Those Namco Games for Famicom came in sweet cases), another copy of Ultima - Seija heno Michi, another copy of Tetris, Wrecking Crew, Marusa no Onna, Momotarou Densetsu: Peach Boy Legend. Then on Monday my brother bought BC Racers for 32x Brand New! We only have two more games to go to complete our 32x Collection.  Hope you all enjoyed this great game hunt blog.  Pictures are posted on here as well.  Please respond to blog thanks.

Apple has reported that CEO and Co-Founder Steve Jobs has died today after a long and painful struggle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Although his contributions to the tech world were more related to computers as opposed to video games, his contributions to the tech world will never be forgotten.

As well, though I was not much of an Apple fan, I do appreciate the contributions that he made to the technological world.

He will be missed.

Welcome to another Let's Watch: GameCenter CX article! This week, I've decided to release this episode early due to the shortness of the episode. Expect another episode on Friday!

Previously, Arino interviewed Atsushi Inaba, a producer for Tekki [Steel Battalion outside Japan] and learned the history behind the infamous controller. He then proceeded to challenge the title and see how far he could make it while playing it on a theatre screen.

This week, Arino's back and playing another Life Simulator game, Roommania #203 for the Sega Dreamcast. He's quite familiar with the title, as he purchased it when he was released. However, there was one scenario he never completed on his own - the romance scenario. Viewers may remember his trials with Angelique Trois in S1E2, but will things be different this time?

Win Condition: Complete the Romance scenario with the good ending.

Posted under Atari, 2600, Phoenix, October, Challenge, Monthly

I recently found and sent CrabMaster2000 a power adapter for his Atari 2600 so that could finally fire it up and join me in some retro gaming.  Before I sent it, we talked about playing against each other for high score once it arrived.  Well, it arrived today and I looked over his list of games to determine what we would play first.  I have decided on Phoenix as the first game.  After thinking about it (for oh, let's say 5 minutes), I decided to blog about this challenge and open it up for anyone on RFGen who is game.  Scores can be posted as responses to this blog.  Of course we are going by the honor system here, so please, no made up scores or other forms of cheating.  The challenge will run until the end of the month, October 31 at midnight.  Hopefully, we will have enough participants and be able to make this a monthly event.  Good luck!

A new arcade/game store just opened up in my area, and needless to say, I've become a pretty frequent customer since its inception.  The guys that own it are really nice and have been very helpful in introducing me to new games and systems.  Along with several standup and sit-down machines, they keep a nice stock of pinball machines going (always ten at a time and they frequently swap them out).  As a result, I've been bitten by the pinball bug and am working on saving toward my first machine.  Luckily, there is a fairly strong pinball community in my area and I should benefit from knowing some of its members in my local search.  Unlike video games, pinball is something you have to work to find locally, unless you have unlimited funds to blow.  For my first machine, I though I might go with something more nostalgic to me.  I was a big fan of the Williams machines of the late 80s/early 90s, such as Taxi, Cyclone, and Whirlwind, so I am going to start there, since those machines tend to be more affordable than the newer dot matrix models.

Welcome to another Let's Watch: GameCenter CX article!

Last week, Arino was thrown into a strange situation with Angelique Trois, a dating simulation game published by Koei. Surprisingly, Arino took the game to heart and tried his best to date Seiran, but in the end was turned down and failed the challenge.

This time, we find Arino interviewing Tekki's producer, Atsushi Inaba. For those not familiar with the name, Tekki is known as Steel Batallion outside of Japan. Witness the story behind Tekki and watch as Arino learns the controls.

Win Condition: None. There is no pass/fail this time, only seeing how far he can get.
