Overview:
Cockpit-viewed shooter where the player has to warp from sector to sector in a galaxy to clear all areas of enemy ships without being killed or running out of energy (which ends the game). Upon taking damage from enemy craft, the player can dock with one of two space stations for repairs and extra energy.

After playing one or more games of Phaser Patrol, the player's Atari can be turned off and on, then the tape can be played to view previews of the fellow Starpath games of Communist Mutants from Space, Fireball and Suicide Mission.
