Title: Best way to remove stickers from game labels?
Post by: Reps911 on May 13, 2013, 01:15:22 PM
I just picked up some virtual boy games and some of them have stickers on the game labels. What is the best way to get these off without tearing the labels?

I use a hair dryer to soften/melt the glue on stickers and they peel off wonderfully. Use a side to side motion or probably better in this case, concentrate the warm air right on that pie sticker. Be careful you don't soften the glue that holds the game label down.

Hair dryer may work well as Fleach says, or you could be delicate with some Goo-Gone. Those labels are laminated so you could go gently.

We talked all sorts of cleaning including stickers in episode 5 of the Collectorcast if you'd like more tips: http://rfgenerationcollectorcast.podomatic.com/entry/2012-08-21T21_48_08-07_00

concentrate the warm air right on that pie sticker

I did that once; it resulted in my having to register as a sex offender.

But seriously, thanks for the sticker removal tip. Should I ever be in a similar situation, I'll definitely try this out.

The hair drier trick worked perfect, the sticker peeled right off. Next question, what should I use to clean the sticker residue off?

What were you trying to get a sticker off of? ;)

For that you'll want Goo Gone. Dampen a paper towel with and and rub the glue residue off. Then slightly moisten a paper tower with water wash off the Goo Gone residue.

Ok Zag, you can now chime in with your interpretations.

That won't damage the label?

usually most labels are fine with it if you only use a very small amount and keep it away from the edges...a lot of labels are laminated and won't soak up anything from the front, but along the edges it can seep in if you're not careful.

I'm afraid that would violate my probation.

But I have used Goo Gone in other applications--

No, not those kinds of applications. Shut up.

--and it is indeed some amazing stuff.

Well, I got some in the garage... maybe I'll try it on Mario tennis first...

Has anyone tried this on cardboard? There's a small sticker on my Wave Race box. I'll probably just end up leaving it on there ;)

the hair dryer method works good on cardboard, i'd avoid any liquids though unless the box looks laminated...most either absorb the liquid or the colour rubs off that i've seen.

I've used Goo Gone on cardboard. It stills leaves that residue so I washed it off. You have to be very careful not to get the cardboard wet.
