Title: Images from ebay seller f-n-d
Post by: bum-man on June 15, 2005, 01:26:13 PM
While browsing ebay I came upon a seller that seem to do a nice job of scanning images of the games that he had for sale.  I figured it couldn't hurt to ask for permission to use his scans on the site and he responded that he has no problem at all and in fact he may stop by the site later tonight and submit some on his own.  I submitted his work for one title, VIC-20 Dancing Bear, a sample of which is attached here.  He asked that the credit be listed as FND.  Here is the link to his current auctions http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZfQ2dnQ2dd , he has images on his completed auction too.  He also has item for sale with images on his web site http://fndcollectables.com/  The images do require a little tweak to get them to the standard but this seems like a good way to get scans of games no current user has.

Hey, thanks a million for taking the time to e-mail FND about that and for submitting the images.  They've been reviewed and are on the site, with credit given to FND appropriately.  If FND sees this, I'd just like to extend a personal thanks for letting us use the images here.  I've already enjoyed seeing the ones bum-man submitted for you, and I'm sure other visitors and staff will like them as well.  Thanks to you both!

And bum-man, I'd be more than happy to help you add these to the database.

I don't think I will have time to do any tonight but I will take a look again tomorrow from work and see what FND has listed that we don't have in the database.  I don't mind doing it and the best part is I am getting paid at the same time |D

FYI, I did pass on a few of the images because they were a bit small (and of common games) but for the most part they are very nicely done!!

Awesome scans!  I just took a look at the NES ones, and we're missing quite a few of those, including some rare ones!  I'll take care of some of the NES scans later tonight or tomorrow, if nobody else gets to them first ;)  Thanks for asking FND about the scans bum-man!  And FND:  thanks for the scans! :)

Since this may end up being quite a few scans let me know if it's easier for you if I use the submit image link on the site or email a zip of all the image files to someone.  Either way works for me so what ever is easier for you guys.

It's up to you.  I think the submit image link is probably the best choice.  Allows for more than one person to review the submission/add it - unless some staff has the free time & volunteers to add them all on his/her own then it's probably easier for you to e-mail them all together.  ;)

Glad I could help out.

BTW I have loads of old scans from old auctions that
are gone now so I wanted to ask if there is a list of the
scans missing from your data base ? If so I may be able
to fill in a few spots that are no longer available in my past
auction pages

I received an email from FND regarding these scans and since he has so many and they will need to be modified (his scans generally show front and back in same image) I asked him to email them to me.  Then I will go thru them and submit any we need after I tweak them.

By the way FND and I both received errors last night trying to submit images.  Here's the error I got:

Sorry about the error guys.  It's fixed now so you can start uploading all you want now.  Thanks for all your help!

And FND, if you click on the submit game images link on the menu bar, you can search for games that need images.  Next to each game in the results there will be links to each type of scan.  If the link is green, we already have an image, otherwise we still need one.  Just click on a link to upload that particular scan.

Included in the current lot of FND images I am working on are carts 1 thru 6 for Odyssey.  They are listed in the database as a single game "Cartridges 1-6", should these be broken up?  If so here's the breakdown as per the Odyssey FAQ on Pong-Story.com ( http://www.pong-story.com/o1faq.txt )

      #1 Table Tennis
      #2 Ski, Simon Says
#3 Tennis, Analogic, Hockey, & Football (for passing & kicking)
#4 Cat and Mouse, Football (for running), Haunted House
      #5 Submarine
      #6 Roulette, States

Yeah this needs to be re-done.  I have been meaning to do that for a while.  I'll probably just delete all Odyssey games and re-do the list entirely.  Thanks for the reminder.

Yeah it's kinda a strange setup since each cart is used for multiple games.  And then some of the expansion games came with carts and others used the pack-in one.  Not to mention all of the games (except maybe pong?) have overlays for the TV screen and many have extra pieces.  I have images from FND of several of the expansion games as well so I will be submitting that stuff soon too.

In case you didn't notice, I went ahead and redid the list.  I am just going to consider the actual software for the game entries, rather than the packages.  So, cartridges 1-12 are in the database now.  You can add images as you want.

You may want to remove #11, look like it doesn't exist.

From the Magnavox Odyssey FAQ
Quote
Also, there is a mysterious cartridge #11. One could think that it was designed for an unreleased game. This is false: it was planned for Basketball, but then cancelled and replaced by cartridge #8 (used with Handball).

And you may want to add the "Apex-Magnavox blue card "

Quote
This may be rarest Odyssey add-on part. The blue card is a 2-in-1 double-ender cartridge which combines cartridges 7 and 8 for playing Handball and Volleyball.

Got that for you.
Can't remove the other one though.

I just submitted an image of a manual for NES Puzznic, once I posted it I noticed it is not for the US game.  Sorry about that I was checking them as I went but somehow missed that one.
