Title: eBay rant.
Post by: thx1138 on July 13, 2004, 06:24:29 AM
If something goes wrong with a trade, I as a seller - bend over bakcwards to set it straight. I make mistakes, i did yesterday, and had to contact  the buyer up to explain.... and we agrees upon a fair and quick solution.

I always know what, I've sent to who, when, how much it cost to send, what it weighed, where it was sent from, which service i used, and any insurance. I reply promptly and courtesouly to all after sales e-mails. Even the rude ones. I don't lose my temper, I figure if I lose my temper, I will have lost the argument..

But as a buyer ------------  I feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall.  People with high feedback.....  living in the u.k, specialising in retro games.......

The e-mail you see below, is unusualy terse for me, as I don't say hello, thankyou or goodbye. This was about the tenth e-mail I had sent, all of which had been most courteous and contained all the relevenat info.
Quote

C'mon dude. Show some decent customer service will you, please?

I paid you on the 20th June, by Pay-Pal. You sent me no acknowledgement of receipt of payment, my games haven't arrived. After sending you quite a few, polite e-mails, with the relevant details, I get one e-mail a week ago, with one sentence, no salutations., or apologies, or thankyou's just this;

I will investigate with the PO and get back to you ASAP.

Would it really be too much trouble to keep me informed?

Insurance was included in the payment I made to you, so please sort it out, either send me the games or refund me my money.

.
This is the reply I get. Only the second e-mail ever....

They arrived back yesterday, obviously undelivered.  What is your full address and postcode and I can re-send

wtf.com? Why can't people just work things out better? Why do I have to keep badgering them  for information?

and why are so many people's contact phone numbers phony?

Okay, well I finally got a more human response from him, since then.

This is why, in my opinion is %age rating is a lot lower than mine. I'm too old a hand at eBay to leave negative feedback too soon, but just not bothering to keep people informed once you know that there is a problem seems silly to me - I also can't understand sellers who don't acknowledged receipt of payment.

I hate ebay and will only deal with select sellers. There are just to many dumb asses on it. I once bought a Saturn on ebay it took the dumb ass a month just to ship it

yeah, I am really coming around to the idea of trading with  collectors on bboards instead of buying and selling on feepay.

I see ebay as a necessary evil on the way to building the ultimate game collection.  It's sort of like dealing with that jackass up at Game Stop who insists that he is the be all end all authority on video games and I am nothing but a mere worm compared to all of his clerking might.  If I want the games, I gotta deal with that shit sometimes.

son of a bitch! day before yesterday he told me that the parcel had been returned undelivered, then today  he informs me that he has "misplaced" it.

I think he is a lying wanker, who didn't like the fact that I'd got a real bargain price for his games. Anyway, he refunded my money - but I am damned sure he has them, and will probably spilt them up and relist them in the future.

I wonder if I am the only honest man still trading on ebay.co.uk

Okay, eBay are now really pissing me off.

They push Pay-Pal way too hard.  Just went to tell a vendor that I was sending a personal cheque, and all I see is "PAY PAL ITS GREAT" "Oooh are you sure you want to send a cheque - it's soooo risky" etc etc etc

I used to sell 25 to 100 items a week. I now sell less than 20 a week, and continue to find other avenues of trade.

Just don't like the whole experience much anymore.

I'm actually having trouble with a Goodwill auction because they say they never got my money order. I even sent it priority mail to get it to them on time; that's the last time I ever do that for any auction payment, Now I have to go to the very busy convenience store where I bought the MO and see if someone can help me find out if it was cashed or if I need to cancel it and resend. All this for a Vic-20.

I only deal with companies, becuase indeviduals are assholes, but companies generally try to protect their reputation.

Alot of individuals try to protect thier rep too.  As a matter of fact, the only times I have had trouble buying on Ebay has been through power sellers ( also see bigger companies that don't care about one unhappy person.)

i've heard of people who make tons of sales to friend so that they both can get high ratings to offset any bad ones they might get from doing shitty deals with people

my rating is 1215 at 99.8% three years old.

I wonder if I could sell my i.d to someone, what it would be worth? :D

This just in...............

Dear retro-4echnology,

Hi, I have some questions regarding this item. My girlfriend works in UK now, I'm from Poland. I want to buy that MD for her. I can pay you via Western Union Money Order (www.bidpay.com) and you will send this item to Ramsgate, UK. Is it possible? Another qestion: are there headphones included? Best regards, xxxxxx

I added them to my blocked bidders list.
