Title: Buying a Wii at Launch???
Post by: phoenix1967 on June 04, 2006, 03:32:28 PM
I'm liking what I've seen of the Wii, but I'm in no rush to pick it up.

It's tempting but I think I'll still wait a bit. I've got plenty to play till I pick one up.

I voted yes.  I'm almost certain I will get one at launch.  I haven't been so excited about a console launch since I was a kid!

Yes, as soon as the pricing and date are revealed I'll be at the store reserving mine.

I said yes as long as the price is 199-249

Nope. No Wii, possibly but probably not a PS3 and never a 360.

I said yes, but that will also depend on the price. Like tynstar said, 199-249 is what I would want.

I'll do like I did for the 64, wait till I can pick one up for $20.

I'm pretty excited about the Wii. I'll actually pre-order mine soon as they come out with a price. Prolly pay it off in full too. I imagine I'll get mine from Best Buy or Future Shop though cause EB here tends to overbook their pre-orders massively.

Title: Re: Buying a Wii at Launch???
Post by: Sauza12 on June 06, 2006, 12:47:40 PM
As soon as I hear that Gamestop and EB are accepting reservations, I'm there.  I just hope it's by the end of the month.

I was back on forth on whether or not I was going to get it at launch for a while, but the launch titles are just too much for me to ignore.

Also, I RRRREEEEAAAALLLYYY hate to admit it, but, the controller is kinda cool.  Who said that?

The way you have to shoot arrows in Zelda is beyond cool.

The new Zelda is still coming out on GC though, right?

Title: Re: Buying a Wii at Launch???
Post by: Sauza12 on June 06, 2006, 01:02:42 PM
I think it is coming out for the Gamecube, but it has special controls for the Wii.  Using the above bow example, to shoot an arrow, you have to hold one part of the controller in front of you, and then draw the other part back to pull the arrow back in the game.

It looks goofy, but that is usually a sure sign that it's going to be fun.

You can also fish in the Wii Zelda as though you were truly fishing.

YES...I will preorder a Wii and PS3 as soon as possible....I didn't think I'd have the money for a 360, so I didn't preorder, but I did have the money and I got one not too far after release .... January 6, 2006.....

I don't know if I'll buy one at launch, but I've seriously been thinking about it.  Some of the stuff I've seen has lead me to think that it might be worthwhile.

And I've NEVER picked up a system at launch before... never even felt the drive to try.

I feel the same way.  I never wanted to buy a system or had the cash at launch but the Wii I'm very interested in.  Go Wii!

I haven't bought a system at launch since the Dreamcast, which is also the last console that I bought to play on period, so I doubt I'll be buying a Wii at launch.  It's sad to say, but I hardly game at all anymore, so I have no motivation to pick up new consoles.  Collecting NES stuff consumes enough time as it is ;)

No

As far what I have seen from this console in gaming shows its not my type of thing...games look a little bit childish, graphics aren't next gen (at the moment that is) and dont know if swinging around with a controller is something for me, when you come home tired of working you dont want to do such things and I rather sport than looking stupid making some of those moves in my room...I am also not into eyetoy or those dancing-pads if you know what I am saying!

I would say yes but it totally depends on the financial situation at the time. My girlfriend also has a big say in these sort of purchases but I think I can sway  her around to my way of thinking.
If i could only get near those purse strings. :)

This is the next console that i want , The thing with the controller having to be moved shuold make even a crappy game into something of a bit of a novelty.
I got all of Nintendoes last 3 consoles at launch which is a bit strange for someone stuck in the Sega camp.

I have loved every bit, piece, and game I have seen for the Wii so far.  Although I think they should have stuck with the name "Revolution".  But still, it looks great, all backwards compatable which is a big plus, and the launch titles look great.  Not to mention it looks like it's going to be about 1/3 of the PS3's price.

yep.  and by the way did anyone get the last EGM?  in it they did an inteview with reggie and he said it would be 250-300 or something like that , but after that it said in parenthesis "infact, reggie told us after the interview that the price will be unde 250"  i will jump for joy if this is true.  anyway, thats the last time EGM heres any of nintendo's secrets.

On my dorm floor, there are four of us that are diehard Nintendo fanatics... as well as many other video games and systems. Right now, me and one of the others will be getting one at launch for sure. There are two others on my floor that got the gamecube at launch, so they could possibly get the wii too.  So we are getting 2 for sure and possibly up to 6 or more.

Now we'll have to converge on games, so we get all the launch titles...  8)

Quote from: Nintendo
The fourth quarter of 2006 will herald a new era for Nintendo with the launch of its remarkable new Wiiâ„¢ home video game system. But that's not what this news item is about! How could that be, you ask? Perhaps the secret to the launch information for Wii is somehow encoded in the text of this news item. You might want to pore over it for a few hours before staying up all night to debate phraseology and comma placement with your friends online. Or maybe it's all just a scam to get you to read the other games we have launching this fall. One of the two.

As the weather cools down, the Nintendo portable game offerings heat up. FINAL FANTASY® V ADVANCE makes its way to Game Boy® Advance SP on Nov. 6. As series go, FINAL FANTASY is to video games what James Bond is to movies. FINAL FANTASY loyalists will enjoy an opportunity to debate which installment was best.

Nintendo DSâ„¢ owners are the big winners. Every week or so, another huge DS title hits, from the Touch Generations title Clubhouse Gamesâ„¢ to fan favorites like Elite Beat Agentsâ„¢ and Yoshi's Islandâ„¢ 2. Clearly a gamer's idea of paradise, here is Nintendo's upcoming DS lineup:

Oct. 2: Wii could release here
Oct. 9: Clubhouse Gamesâ„¢
Oct. 16: Nintendogsâ„¢ (Dalmatian)
Oct. 23: Magical Starsignâ„¢
Oct. 30: Pokemon® Ranger
Oct. 30: Children of Mana®
Nov. 6: Elite Beat Agentsâ„¢
Nov. 13: Yoshi's Islandâ„¢ 2
Nov. 20: Wii won't release after PS3
Nov. 27: This is waaay too late for Wii to release

Dec. 4: Custom Roboâ„¢ Arena
Dec. 4: Kirbyâ„¢ Squeak Squad

And, for Nintendo GameCube™ owners, The Legend of Zelda®: Twilight Princess will be available for you this fall. An enhanced version also will be a launch title for Wii. That will all happen on ... Oh look, we're out of space.

I've seen all kinds of speculation, but the one I like the most is the one that takes the last sentence and twist it into meaning that Nintendo is going to have a Spaceworld this year.

also this one: Wii = WII = VVII when looked at as Roman numerals = 5 + 5 & 1 + 1 = 10 & 2 = 10/2 = October 2nd
Which means Wii will launch on October 2nd.

Nintendo's press release, and some fun speculation by someone on the Planet Gamecube Forums. It's fun to speculate

A part of me is now thinking that the Wii is going to be good for games with only 1 or 2 people but not in a living room with 3 or more players (due to the space needed for everyone to swing their controllers around without smacking someone else).

Just a thought. Anyways, I'm still not buying one at launch.

"Nintendo: No Space World Planned
8/6/2006, 9:22am Eastern Time

Nintendo of America PR Manager, Matt Atwood, dispelled the continuing rumors that this year Nintendo is planning to hold a Space World event.

Speaking to Advanced Media Network, Atwood said there will be no Space World and also said that it is not where they will be unveiling the last bits of Wii information.

Nintendo is still a no show at Tokyo Game Show, with no speakers or demo's planned. Nintendo is still planning to speak at Leipzig Games Convention and with TGS pretty much out of the question, it is looking extremely likely that big Wii news will be announced on August 23 at GC."

I'm not gonna get a Wii right away. I Just think the whole motion sensing thing might be a lame gimmick. I also think that the remote control design may very well be one of the worst controllers ever designed. I'll have to try it before I actually decide to buy it.

I had the same sentiment when I was comtemplating buying the DS, and then I bought one. No wonder the DS prints Nintendo Money.

Nintendo is known for making great games and experiences (sans Virtual Boy), I don't think now would be the time that they screw up.

Nintendojo reports the following:

  • Shigeru Miyamoto in an interview states that there is a grand possibility that GC games will be recoded to take advantage of the Wii Controls. Miyamoto further comments that such a conversion will be extremely easy, as the Wii is in essence a souped up Gamecube. Since the "Wiimakes*" are essentially already developed, and the original games will be easy to find, Miyamoto states that they will be able to sell the Wiimakes for cheap. link (http://www.nintendojo.com/infocus/view_item.php?1156185435)
  • Miyamoto confirms in the same article that sword control in the newest Zelda will be controlled by actual swipes of the remote, and these movements will imitate the sword strike. Miyamoto-san furthers says that of the two versions he of course will be playing the Wii version. link (http://www.nintendojo.com/infocus/view_item.php?1156183322)

don't forget that the wii-mote is the way they want you to play it, not the way you have to play it, the "classic control stick" is supposed to be an alternative to those not keen on using the wii-mote besides being the default virtual console controller.

Tan, isn't the Zelda game or something going to require you to use the remote? I thought there was one that will make you use that darn thing.

Title: Re: Buying a Wii at Launch???
Post by: TraderJake on August 22, 2006, 02:17:14 PM
Yes, sword motions in Zelda are controlled entirely by the remote, If you don't like that idea, however, you can by the GC version, which I hear from Nintendo will run wonderfully on the Wii.

Title: Re: Buying a Wii at Launch???
Post by: Tondog on August 22, 2006, 02:24:44 PM
So, they are forcing you to use the remote.

Title: Re: Buying a Wii at Launch???
Post by: TraderJake on August 22, 2006, 02:33:34 PM
Well, even before that you still would have had to use the Remote for Zelda (aiming, fishing sword movements plus B button, etc), now they have just made the Wii version's sword movements rely entirely on the Remote. The Gamecube's version will still use the Gamecube controller, and is identical to the Wii version with the exception that it uses the GC controller. Who knows, maybe if enough people complain they will update the game via WiiConnect24, since they can do that.

I was in your boat with the DS stylus. I thought it was going to be extremely gimmicky, but it turned out to create some amazing games. I think the DS proves that Nintendo probably knows what they are doing when they make a gamble as big as revolutionizing the way we play games.

I've already got the preorder set for Zelda and Red Steel... and the console comes with Wii Sports, of course.

The bundle is nice.  I can't say that I've seen a bundle at launch since the SNES.  They always seem to come later and cost more.

I know some of the launch titles were delayed until January 2007, but there's enough good ones to hold over until then.  That and I've got a mile-long list of past games I need to finish.

Super late posts FTW!

My Wii is seated confortably next to my Dreamcast and NES.  I beat Red Steel a couple days ago, and am currently working on the VC Legend of Zelda (one of the few I still need to find the original cart).  Anyways, thats one (of two) games in less than two weeks.  I'm usually slow about these things.  At least I've been making progress.

Would anyone be bold enough to say that Wii Sports can truly be beaten.  Even if its only achieving the "*pro" status for each of the five sports.
