Hopefully they don't change the fighting system too much though...
I don't want it to be like others where you have to memorize a million move combo and you can only be good with one character after massive amounts of usage.

I have been able to read up a bit on forums and some people seem to think this is going to be the final installment in the Mortal Kombat series.

They had all better shut their blaspheming mouths.

Wow, if all that comes to fruition I might have to break my self imposed ban on buying fighting games brand new.

I wonder if the character list includes the different forms of characters (ie human and robot Smoke)?

I'd be interested if it were 2D. 3D Mortal Kombat never felt like Mortal Kombat to me.

From what some of the posts on the link have mentioned, it would be too difficult to include him due to the way he is drawn.

Hopefully, with so many characters they'll also be able to find a way to make them more balanced with regard to being able to pull off their special moves (i.e. Baraka).

I would definitely get it, though. It sounds very impressive. And the ability to create your own Kombatant clinches it.

I just finished reading the game informer article for it.

They want to use this game to tie up all the loose end of all the characters.

The way it is worded it sounds like they are going to end Mortal Kombat for these characters but want to continue the series in another generation with new charcters.
But Boon said "It's can't imagine coming back [in the next generation] and not have a Sub-Zero or Scorpion character, but my feeling is that i would like to introduce as much newness as possible."

He compared this game to turning off Star Wars before the Death Star blew up or Lord of The Rings before the One ring was cast into the fire.

And they probably won't work in Motaro because he is the only quadraped character. It would be nearly impossible to integrate him as a useful character since. Unless he was broken and far to powerful.

As for the cast i have read elsewhere that all the versions of characters are going to be selectable.
Probably as a costume swap.

Well, hey, Mortal Kombat franchise may suck but it was always better than the Killer Instinct franchise.

Wasn't there just one Killer Instinct game? If so that doesn't make a franchise just a game.  ;)

Nope Killer Instinct on SNES and Killer Instinct Gold on N64.

War Gods was a pretty bad fighter...

But back to the MK: Armageddon awesomeness.

I knew there was Gold but I though it was the same as Killer Instinct but with extra and better graphics.

There was also Killer Instinct 2 in the arcades at least.

Mortal Kombat fans should be happy for any Killer Instinct incarnation, as it makes Mortal Kombat look better.

I did like Atari's fighter from the same era, Primal Rage.  It was a little more balanced than Mortal Kombat, plus you could do the Golden Shower as a fatality.

No 2d fighter could ever come close to the Capcom fighters, followed by the SNK fighters.  Everything else just sucks.

To me, MK II was the closest a fighting game has been to perfection.  I'd love if they could bring that "feel" back again.  And I have to agree - MK 3D just doesn't work.

MK in 3D isn't the same on one respect because they eliminated the aerial combat almost completely.

They are bringing that back and its going to not suck.

I agree though MK in 2D was amazing.
MK in 3D for me was cool but it definately lost alot of charm.

Hopefully they won't lose all the MK charm by killing off all the current story and characters and starting anew....

Thats a cool picture. I don't  think I can name a thrid of those characters. Like the big monster made of flames.

In the back row I know Goru (spelling?) and Shoa Khan (spelling?). The rest no clue.

Shao Kah and Goro and the huge flame guy is Blaze.

His origins are from MK 2 were he can be seen fighting Hornbuckle in the background of The Pit II.
Long story short Hornbuckle was never made a character and his story has yet to be expanded upon beyond fan fic.

Yea armageddon was supposed to only be available on PS2 and Xbox but it was later announced that a Wii version was in the works.

Originally Ed Boon said something like "they would end the old franchise on the old consoles".

Also the PS2 version is getting a Limited Edition version so i may end up swapping my reserve from the Xbox to the PS2 LE one.

Still have to think a bit about it.
Since i will probably be able to pick it up in a few months after release on eBay for like 30 bucks anyways....

Yea. It kind of pisses me off that the MK franchise doesn't hold it's value long after its release. When I bought MK:Deception at release, I was upset to see it drop to $29.99 only a few months later.  It's value drops at the rate of a sports title!

So while I'm looking forward to Armageddon, I'm not going to get it day 1.

I am getting it day 1.

Its only a 40$ release.

I will hold out for the "LE" version though.

If i am lucky it will turn out like the Deception Limited Editions. Some of those are harder to come by than others but still not that uncommon.

I hear that the Raiden MKDeception is the toughest one to find.

My copy is incomplete, even though the seller told me it had the outter case and metal card and what not.

There are 2 Killer Instinct games, 3 if you count KI Gold, but I'm pretty sure it's identical to KI2.
And while MK has always been more popular, KI has much more depth. I've always felt it to be a far superior game. It's funky how it bombed as badly as it did.

the day i think mortal kombat is a good series is the day capcom, sammy, snk, and namco ceased to ever exist.

Chalk it up for one more fighter that is better than mortal kombat. KoF 2006 is pure blyss, best 2d-3d transistion yet(KoF maximum impact is close second lol). really it bridges the gaps nicely between 2d and 3d fans alike and for $30 its a steal.  :^D

does KoF have fatalities? how about interactive level design? kan you make your own character like what mk:a is set up do do? how about minigames? any KoF puzzle fighter? kart racer?

all fighters have advantages and disadvantages, but i'm basically a fan of the genre in a general sense and when i hear someone saying how much "mk sucks" or the like, i defend what mk does that the others don't do. sure it's not perfect or as polished as some of the other fighters out there, but it's got a balance of fun gameplay, kool well-animated kharacters that don't look like they've come out of an anime kartoon, and buckets of bloody karnage which many of the others kannot klaim.

and at least mk has made the jump to 3d, unlike the SFII series which keeps repackaging essentially the same game over and over and over....

i really wouldnt care about the mini games, kart racing and puzzle fighting (all ripped from other games, especially the puzzle fighter. that looks exactly like street fighter puzzle series). it all seems like a distraction from the mediocre gameplay (have not played the final mk but if its anything like the others it will receive the same response). i agree fighting games should be fun but mk is just the opposite, the gameplay is weak, animations are weaker, fatalities are a cheesy end "bonus".

and to correct you, street fighter has made a jump to 3d although they were horrible attempts. your are also forgetting sf3 and the alpha series. granted they may be repackaged, the gameplay is solid.

The only good fighters are Bushido Blade 1 and 2, and Tekken 3.

Actually MK is the only fighter series I still buy. I will prolly get the new MK once it is 20-25 bucks.

Wii will probably be 50$s.

The one thing that I'm concerned about with MK:A is that from the footage I've seen, they took out the combo-breaker. Which sucks because I like having the option of getting out of a "broken combo" situation.

And now, with all the aerial attacks that they're adding, the casual player is more likely than ever to get cremated against online opponents.

Another problem that I hope they fix is the balance of the characters special moves. The characters with easy special moves (i.e. Baraka, Liu Kang) are often the only ones that seem to get played online while many of the other interesting characters don't get any play at all. It would be great if they could get a "Fiesta" mode for online play where you never knew which character you'd be playing, both players would get a random character. That way, there'd be less skill disparity between those that only play a character like Baraka or Liu Kang and those that play the more complex characters like Mileena, Bo Rai Cho, and the like.

I'm probably going to get the game eventually, but like Tynstar I'll probably wait for the price to drop before doing so. Although I'll admit that could change if the game gets ratings in the 90% or higher...and the create your own character does look like an appealing feature...we'll see.

But i am supposed to be getting the art cell with my preorder from GameCrazy... as well as the store display and store poster and any other freebies they get.

Or so i was told. I better that was the only reason i got the MVP card >:-0

Just found out that the xbox version of MK:A doesn't come out until next week...WTF!!!

Well i have a few hours to decide if when i go there i try and get an Xbox copy early, if possible or swap my preorder to the PS2 version.

Then i have to take the PS2 from my bro and that opens a whole new world of hassles.

the opening movie to the game is freakin sweet. i will be buying this for the xbox when it drops in price a lil. the only game that i am going to buy on release is the family guy game. got it preordered for xbox. freakin' sweet.

Maybe it won't be a huge pain in the ass to get all the KE versions complete like Deception is turning out to be.

Thus far what i have played of the game, only an hour (2 tops), it is pretty sweet.

Konquest is pretty cool thus far.

I have already unlocked the character Meat(whooo only 3 more unlockables).

I beat Arcade with Onaga. I normally beat the game with Scorpion and Sub-Zero first but the ability to play as ANY character i might continue beating arcade with the wicked cool badass characters.

Eh maybe not... i really want to beat thru with
Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Shao Kahn, Goro, the rest of the Ninjas and Cyborgs and Meat to figure out why the hell they gave him a real story line.
