Title: PREPARE YOURSELVES... it's on its way.
Post by: Zagnorch on April 24, 2014, 03:18:15 PM
It's the fourth chapter in the ongoing Skylanders saga, coming this fall:

http://www.skylanders.com/trapteam

What, I'm gonna need yet another new portal for this?  >:( Sheesh...

Oh, well... better see if G*meSt*p is offering a preorder for a Dark Edition starter set.  :freakboy:

So 2-3 more years before they kill that genre?

If not sooner.

I'm already wondering what kind of gimmick innovation they'll roll out for Skylanders 5...

Zag, not to change the subject, but I finished Giants last weekend and I think I'm done with the series. The first game was killer. The second one was clearly phoned in. I beat the final boss (on normal) in about five minutes with a character who was only level 6 at the time. The final boss in the first game was so epic and challenging that I went back and did the final battle multiple times. This one was a pushover in the worst way. I enjoyed the game overall but it was so full of these kinds of disappointing design choices that I don't think I'll ever need to go back. If I do, I'll just go replay the first game.

The last boss on Giants was ANNOYING...not a challenge. The fact that you had to do a speedrun on it just killed it for me.

Hey now,

Zag, not to change the subject, but I finished Giants last weekend and I think I'm done with the series. The first game was killer. The second one was clearly phoned in. I beat the final boss (on normal) in about five minutes with a character who was only level 6 at the time. The last boss on Giants was ANNOYING...not a challenge. The fact that you had to do a speedrun on it just killed it for me.

One thing that irked me about Giants was how short it was, like a glorified DLC add-on.  It's not too bad when you play it while tanked on Disaronno and Strongbow Cider, though. (http://www.rfgeneration.com/blogs/zagnorch/Gettin-Buzzed-on-Skylanders-Giants-and-Booze-2318.php)  ;)

Hear ya about the differences in the final boss battle, though. I sacrificed at least eight characters to bring Kaos down in Spyro's Adventure. I've gone back to it a few times , and managed to get it down to five. Not so much the case in the Giants finale.

However, I thought they had a pretty good comeback with Swap Force. Kinda annoying that you need a new portal for it, though. If you're willing to give it a shot on the cheap, it'll likely be on blowout around the time Trap Team drops.

To be honest, I have a PS4 copy of Swap Force I got on Black Friday thinking I'd be getting a PS4 soon. I since have decided not to get a PS4 soon. So what I'm saying is I will eventually play Swap Force, but it might not be until about next Christmas.

I neglected to mention that I did enjoy using Flashwing, whom I got from Zagnorch for Christmas, so thanks again for that Zag.

However, the best Skylander of all time is clearly Drobot. I mean come on, he's a goddamned combination of a dragon and a robot. Case closed.

I've always been partial to playing the Skylanders games on Nintendo platforms, myself. Probably because the Wii U versions of Giants and Swap Force give you different controller options. I've found the 3DS games surprisingly good, too. Sadly, I got the XBox 360 release of the Dark Edition Swap Force starter set 'cuz the Wii U version was sold out by the time I was ready to preorder. I'm definitely NOT gonna make that same mistake this time 'round...

Flashwing and Dino-Rang are the only two earth-element figures I like to play with.

Easily the best ranged-attack Skylander; his laser blasts can go from one end of the screen to another. And you can keep the fire button pushed down for him to fire continuously. He's the most-often-used tech Skylander in my arsenal-- even more so than Trigger Happy, I'm ashamed to admit.

@Zag: I'm not looking forward to buying another portal either. I recently finished Swap Force and while I liked it I'm not sure I will be picking up Trap Force on release. I'm thinking I'll try the original first.

Just four days to go. You must resist the urge to worship the pretenders to the throne... even if they do have super-heroes and-- very soon-- jedi knights on their side.

I know several have fallen already, but you must stand strong! DO NOT GIVE IN TO THE FALSE IDOLS! THE POWER OF LORD EON COMPELS YOU, MY BRETHREN!

I'll look the other way with the Super Smash Bros. Amiibo figures, though... except for the Pokemon ones of course.

I'd rather put 'em in the retirement home. How's THAT for respect. huh?

Hold on a second, Andrew Dragon Dice Clay wants to say something.

Hey, why don'cha respect THIS elder... ALL TWELVE INCHES OF IT! OH!!!

F*ckin'-a, Dice! F*CK... IN'... A!!!

Dark Edition arrived last night, picked up the Target exclusives this morning (Water Trap, Nitro Krypt Knight).
Will likely look into getting the Legendaries from TRU this weekend.

Damn, haven't found the Tarjay water trap yet.

Got the Nitro Krypt King, though. Which is good, 'cuz he's more awesome than all the Disney Infinity 1.0 and 2.0 figures combined!

You know this to be true; don't lie to yourself like you do a lot.

UPDATE: Just got the trap. Better than getting the clap...

Nitro Krypt King is awesome, and Target has the inflatable Krypt King sword if you buy the set there.
Picked up the Walmart-exclusive Water Buddy set (Gill Grunt, Gill Runt), 3 more traps, and Gusto. Apparently, just enough to get me through Chapter 2. Now to pick up more traps... Still need to pick up the Legendary sets from TRU as well.

F*CKING-A HE'S AWESOME, AND DON'CHA FORGET IT, PUNK!

Oh, it's inflatable? That's kinda disappointing. Eh, Mega brands will likely put out a Nerfish foam version one of these days. Then I'll have a Skylanders melee weapon to go with my twin Trigger Happy pistols.

Not big on going into Wally World myself, but I'll definitely drop by one to take a look.

3 more traps

Definitely gotta pick up some more of those. Probably wait 'til TRU does the 2-for-$8 deal again, which should be any week now...

and Gusto. Apparently, just enough to get me through Chapter 2.

I'll eventually pick up Gusto with the the 3DS game. Gonna wait 'til they do a price drop on the starter sets, which I'm sure they'll do at least once when the holiday shopping rush hits. Just wish they had the other Air-element Trap Master available now. And no Magic Trap Master out yet? What the hell?

Didja order the Collector's Edition strat guide too? Mine finally shipped out; hopefully I'll get it by midweek.

NOTE TO TYNSTAR: see all the fun you're missing out on?  ;)

Nah, didn't pre-order anything actually. I wasn't sure I would have enough to pick it up, but my paycheck was a little heavier than I expected.
No Magic Trap Master kind of pisses me off, but I haven't been able to find a Life Trap Master to safe my life right now.

EDIT: Wave 2. I'll wait to pick this up for the other traps, I guess...

Hey now,

Nah, didn't pre-order anything actually. I wasn't sure I would have enough to pick it up, but my paycheck was a little heavier than I expected.

I only preordered the Dark Editon Wii U starter pack at the nearest GameStop, 'cuz I mistakenly thought it was exclusive to them again this year. I was gonna preorder a few things on Amazon.com, but my reward points couldn't go towards preorders. Jerkoffs...

I thought that was kinda weird, myself. Both water, earth, and tech Trap Masters were available right off the bat, but neither magic one? Quite frustrating indeed.

Cool. I prefer buying a full set of traps, too. But... Broccoli Guy? That dude was kinda obnoxious. And talk about a corny name for a character. *SPOILER ALERT* Even Kaos goofs on him during the end credits... which runs for nearly a half hour. I didn't wanna skip over it for fear of missing out on some possible bonus at the end that I could only earn if I let the credits roll all the way through.

Oh, and I took a look at the Wally World-exclusive Gill Grunt / Runt set... and decided to pass. They're just the standard versions I can get or eventually will get elsewhere. At least give 'em a different paint job if you want me to buy 'em, ya lazy sods.

Yeah, it's nothing special. However, there is supposed to be a new Legendary at TRU for Wave 2, but I don't know if it comes in an Adventure Pack or not, as the standard comes in a Pack.

IIRC one of the next Legendaries is Deja Vu, whose regular form comes both singly and in a new adventure pack.

I've already beaten the story on moderate difficulty, now I'm doing the grinding thing and up-leveling my trap masters and minis. Most of them are maxed out on their power upgrades, and only two of them are lower than level 8. I'm also getting gung-ho about completing every challenge and quest, as well as finding all the hidden goodies. I've been tempted to go online to find out where everything is stashed, but I'm gonna hold out until my guide arrives. And I'm still wondering about the unknown-element portals and trappables.

And now that I've played it some more, I'm ashamed to admit it, but... Broccoli Guy is officially my favorite trappable "helper." His a-little-too-self-assured attitude and all around dorkiness has won me over. Okay, so he refers to himself in the third person; hey, nobody's perfect. But at least he's straightforward; his name pretty much says it all. Needless to say, I can't wait for that 8-trap set to drop.

Hey, you know what-- I could go for some steamed broccoli right about now. Do it up just right with a dash of lemon juice, and chow down. Maybe Chef Pepper Jack can provide a recipe for a main course to go with it... yeah...

Yeah, it was Deja Vu. The unknown elements are likely the Light/Dark masters that are releasing later as well.

Speaking of upcoming releases: looks like Frito-Lay's got another contest for an "exclusive" figure.

Well, it's exclusive to Frito-Lay until the end of the year, anyway.

Then you'll likely see it at TRU a few months after promotion's end, like they did with the glow-in-the-dark Rattle Shake, and will likely be the same deal for those differently colored Fire Bone Hot Dog figures. Frito-Lay can take that Blipper app and shove it where the sun don't shine.
