Title: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion !!!!! 360 and PC talk
Post by: Arrrhalomynn on March 24, 2006, 02:23:19 AM
If you have, what's it like? I read the xbox 360 version has some slowdown in the graphics, but is great otherwise. I'm thinking about getting an xbox 360 for this game, but I'm not sure yet if I should.

I have it and I have to say "so far, so good". I really havent noticed a slow down of the graphics, but have noticed that the game is actually putting my 360 to work. Unlike my other 360 games in my library, Elder Scrolls has actually made my 360's fans work a little :P

Once you get the control system down, it's all good. I am only about 7 - 9 hours into the game. It is a bit slow going at first, but it really starts to shine once you are out of the first area where you start. Tynstar didn't think the graphics were fantastic, and for the most part I agree. But they do look good (like a PC game).

The story is very interesting, and you cant beat a game that starts off with Patrick Stewart doing the opening voice acting  :D

Yes you can...

Reese Witherspoon, naked, doing the opening voice acting.

The reason I didnt thing the graphics where that good was because all the hype about them. I should try it on my PC.

I bought an XBOX 360, Oblivion, Dead or Alive 4, and Fight Night 3 yesterday.

Oblivion rules, I'm really impressed.  I didn't like Morrowind at all, but this is really fun to me.

Yap, did you have one on reserve or did you just go into a store and they have them available?

I only ask because I hear that production is up and the supply of xbox 360s is being resolved as early as this week.

I've been calling around for a couple of days, and one of the game stores just happened to have one (Core - bleh).  So now I can't find a hard drive, and geometry wars is taking up 50% of my memory card.

Amazon.com does have a hard drive though, so maybe I'll get that.

Been play Oblivion alot over the last several days. I did come across my first issue with the game during this time. While traveling through a town, it would load certain areas when you crossed from one part of town to another. When you would do this, the load times were kind of longer than I thought they should be.

Other than that, the story is progressing nicely and the control is spot on (IMO).

I havent been playing long enough, and my character finally hit level 2. There is alot of work involved in leveling your character, I actually enjoy that aspect.... Alot of games will level you alot more, but this way it seems like alot more work and I feel like I have acomplished something when I actually level.

Are you pretty much just focusing on the main quest or are you "playing around in the sandbox" as well?

My friend says he is around 30 hours into the game and has probably only explored 5% of the whole world.

Do you support or refute that statement?

Pretty much staying on the main quest, but I dont know why
??? I always have this feeling of OMG!!! I need to hurry and get going on my quest otherwise the kingdom will fall and everybody will die   But really, they want you to do these side quest and explore.

Anthony, the map is huge! And I honestly am at about where your friend is on percentage of the world explored. (maybe 4% here) You can either be lazy and "quick travel" to a town, which you dont explore, or you can actually walk from one place to another. Of course I have a horse, so it makes it much faster |D

I like exploring for the most part, but sometimes I do quick travel. Exploring, helps you find different landmarks and areas to explore and find nice items.

I would be suprise if I am over 12 hours. (maybe 10)
I would play more, but after 2 hours I start to feel sick.

Man, I am slacking.... I weas reading a thread elsewhere, and I saw several people are at level 10 + now.

This seems insane to me, But I really need to do more research and map exploring. I belong to the fighters guild, but I think I am going to join the mages guild as well (if I can).

Not so sure. My PC is a Gateway that I bought in 2000.

With all the memory cards, video cards, and other nonsense I'd have to get and install in order to just upgrade the thing, I'd be better off just getting the 360.

One thing that pisses me off is the snotty demeanor some of these NPC people have. I swear I just want to hack thier fucking heads off :beating:

I was playing last night and was in this dirt poor little town. I tried picking a lock and next thing I know, I have the whole town chasing after me trying to kill me. (It was more like 5 or 6 people)

I dont want to kill innocent people, so I ran through the woods until I could find another city or town to hide in. Well, I then was being chased by wolves as well  :o

Luckily the wolves killed off a couple of the idiots following me. When I reached the next city, there were still 3 people following me and attacking me. The city guard saw the problem and slaughtered the morons following me.  :ownedsign:

Leveled twice last night, and I have started to get the hang of what I need to do to level. I am now taking my time on the main quest seeing as it seems they really dont have a time frame for you to finish it. I am taking advantage of that and exploring the world and other side quest.

Who else is playing this on the xbox?   I'll see if I cant post my gamertag which should show my progress.

Level 5 now, and I think I will be leveling again soon. Trying alot of the "side quest" and having a blast.

Let me point out that you DO NOT want to steal from the fighters guild or its members. If there is a red hand over something, DONT take it. The fee (quest) to re enter the club is 20 Bear hides  :o

Walmart gets them in weekly. It is all a matter of finding out when they are putting them out / getting them.

Finally got the 360 from Toys R Us! Courtesy of the Mirage  & Greektown casinos for the winnings! Woohoo!

Started playing Oblivion. Damn, that mausolem on the way to the 1st city where you take the Amulet is tough! The traps are tricky to navigate, then you have to deal with the relentless zombies! I died a lot there so I decided to just move on to the town.

So last night I was running around on a side quest, and as normal, I throw a few fireballs off into the distance.

Mistake! I accidentally hit a horse and the guard started walking towards me  ??? Normally they run at you when you break the law.

Well, I ran off through a meadow and over a fence. I see that the guard is still walking and takes the long way around, so I test out a theory. I make him walk all the way around, and then I jump back over the fence.

The guard is right there! But he doesnt say a thing. He starts to walk off and then the game freezes >:(

2 things can be learned from this.

1.) Dont randomly fire your magic or weapons unless you know it wont hit something.

2.) Do not run from the law. Said law will pwnzr your ass by freezing the game.

Seriously though, there must have been a bad glitch which caused it to freeze. ??

I got it for 360, did all the guilds, arena, and main quest as well as 85% of the sidequests. You can continue playing after you beat the main quest.

As far as slowdown and/or lockups.... Hold down your A button when you turn your system on till the game boots up. It'll clear the cache and then you're good to go ;)

I loved (am loving) Morrowind, but I need to get a 360 to play Oblivion.  I doubt that'll happen for a while though.  My PC is a $400 eMachine from 4 or so years ago.  I don't even think I could upgrade it enough no matter how much money I have.  Besides, I want a Mac.

Title: Re: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion !!!!! 360 and PC ta

You think you want a Mac.
But upon further inspection you will realize you were sadly mistaken.

And for the most part an eMachines from that long ago is not worth upgrading...
Just save the money for a new PC instead

And Morrowind is still worth playing.
I think i might start it up over vacation.
Assuming i finish at least one of the other games i have nearly completed and have severly cut back on play time.

I like it.

I always hated having  to chose just one.
But at the same time i hate when i have a ton of options and having to pass up some that might be good.
I hate it too when you have too many options and you get stuck using a few and have 800 left over on random hotkeys/button you can't remember which defeats the purpose of a hotkey.

I am just a whiny son-of-a-bitch.

I don't know if this could be considered a spoiler or not, but just in case...

(It sort-of reveals some storyline stuff for guilds in Morrowind.  Click at your own risk.)

[hidden style=1 title=Hidden Text]I know in Morrowind, you couldn't join both the Fighters' Guild and Thieves' Guild at the same time without running into some problems.  I mean, you could join both, but eventually you had to pick one to finish since their storylines conflicted near the end.  I'd be surprised if this wasn't a problem in Oblivion as well.[/hidden]

Anybody with the 360 version of Oblivion ever run into a problem with the game freezing while loading? I have had this happen twice now in 25 - 30 hours of game play.

This isnt horrible, but I dont know if it is my 360 doing it or Oblivion  ???

Tonight I did a quest where as a gift for completing the quest, I recieved a "skeleton key". It basically raises your security skill by 40. I have heard that this item also acts as an unbreakable lock pick?

It's not like joining the fighter's guild actually makes you a good fighter.  The guild quests are just separate quest-lines that don't advance the story at all, but give you some more quests.

The game seems somewhat short to me.

It's too bad Morrowind doesn't work on the 360 yet.

FYI. A new Oblivion quest has been added to XBOX Live Marketplace for 150 points.

That's another thing, with the PC version you'll soon have enough mods to last you a lifetime.

Yeah, I did that quest before I went to work this morning.  It's really short.

I'm not knocking the game, it's pretty fun - but I'll stand by my original statement of it being short.

PS3 will be interesting. But when the hell is the PS3 coming out?? Is anybody going to be left wanting this game on the PS3? most everyone will have it on the PC or 360 by then.

PSP.... ::)

PSP could be cool, that'd actually be pretty sweet it seems like. As for PS3, who knows?

Isn't the PS3 coming out in November?  I just think its interesting because Microsoft kept calling it an exclusive title (even though it had simultaneous release on the PC).  It'll be pretty far from exclusive now, if this news is true.

PSP could be cool.... Maybe :-/
I just dont see how they would properly port this game to that format ??? But hey, maybe it will turn out ok. Then again, If I had a PC,360 or PS3 copy of this game, I wouldn't want some hacked up, dumbed down version of it. But hey thats just me  ;)
