Toy Collecting

Just wondering if you collect toys. And what you think about toy collecting. :leo:

I used to collect both Star Wars and really any war related Micro Machines. They were my pastime before I could afford or was allowed to become a hardcore vidya gamer.

I'm not into collecting Toys but it certainly something that I could roll into.

I did however bought the 2 toys of the Small Soldiers movie, just because I liked that so much when I was younger.

I collect toys too.....my kids toys that litter my room and the living area. I collect them and sit them in a box never to be played with again after they have been warned for not cleaning up.

I could definitely see myself getting into toy collecting especially 90's TMNT stuff, since I had a pretty sizable collection as a kid without even trying. But, I've got more than enough things to collect and not enough space already, so I try to stay away from buying toys (especially TMNT stuff because I know that would be too slippery of a slope for me).

Micro Machines rock.
I was never big on toys. I prefered books, movies, videogames, board games, tv to action figures and other such forms of toys.
The big exceptions being toy cars(and micro machines) and Legos.

Here is a neat website that has some pics of 70's toys.  http://www.plaidstallions.com/ There was a thread over at AA that had this link in it. I still collect a few odds and ends toys.  Mainly Hotwheels, Micro Machines, Little Pink Wrestling Figures (Forgot the name of them)

I will typically pick up random Atari and NES toys and other collectables to display in my game room, but I do specifically collect loose G.I. Joe action figures from '82-'87.  I have them displayed in my game room and need to update my photos.

I collect vintage GI Joe and Transformers. Modern stuff, I collect 3 3/4" Marvel and Star Wars figures. Lately, started collecting the new 6" Star Wars Black figures

I pick up loose action figures if I see em at garage sales. This thread makes me want to pull all my old military micromachines out of storage and stage wars lol

I'm known as a Nerf gun aficionado on this site, although I haven't added to my arsenal in a couple months. In fact, I've sold off a portion of it.

Here's what it looked like at its height:

I also used to collect Optimus Prime toys and just about every version of the Battleship game I'd find. I haven't added to either collection in months, either.

so much nerf

i think i'm one of the few people who never had any real interest in action figures as a kid, or many other toys for that matter. i mostly stuck with video games, and the only thing that really interested me much was LEGO and K'NEX, which i grew out of fairly completely no later than 12 or 13

I've got a bunch of 80's Transformers. I keep meaning to sell them off, but just never seem to get around to it.

This was me too.  I never understood the appeal of action figures and stuck with video games and K'NEX.

I would be curious to see everyone's age and whether or not action figures appeal to them. For me, action figures were a big part of my childhood and generation. Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Transformers, He-Man, etc were huge. Didn't seem that way in the later 80s and early 90s. That generation seemed more build-based with Legos and such.

Im 34, so I grew up heavily influenced by the 80's. I love my G.I. Joe, Transformers, He-man and Star wars toys. Always have always will. In fact, I am waiting to get shipped my new MattyCollector Masters of the Universe Castle Grayskull.

26, I was a history nerd alongside my more mainstream Star Wars heavy nerdom. This led to my being into the tiny historical soldiers sold at hobby shops in order to recreate battles (I built a scale model of the Alamo with clay, so I could play with my little dudes on it) which then led to my being interested in Star Wars Micro Machines.

I also frequented garage sales, so I was awash with any 80s toys I could throw into my epic, multi-universe historical battles.

I wasn't super big into action figures, myself. I had a few He-Man figures, but that was about it. My childhood faves were Lego space sets and TransFormers. I got the Constructicons one by one over a three month period. Needless to say, I was stoked when i was finally able to complete Devastator. Then I saved up to get Jetfire, which was just a redecoed Veritech/Valkyrie from Robotech / Macross. Which was cool, 'cuz I dug the hell outta Robotech as well. I played with Jetfire until he literally fell apart. He had a pretty good amount of die-cast metal at a time when toys started the transition to all plastic.

I also had several GoBots, most notably the Puzzler combiner that I got on clearance for $5.00. That dude was pretty metallic, too.

Shortly after I got into Star Blazers, I discovered the local hobby shop was selling Japanese Space Battleship Yamato mini-models for $1.00 each. Each came with its own little tube of model glue, and illustrated assembly instructions. Man, were those fun to build. A close childhood friend and I would give them to one another on our birthdays and Christmas for several years.

Yeah, I'm 36. I think the early to mid-80's was action figure crazed for sure. I too had Devistator and another multi-Transformer giant that I believe was called Bruticus.

Bruticus is awesome. He is the Combaticon Gestalt/Combiner. I have three of the Decepticon Combiner sets. Devastator, Bruticus and Menasor.

I'm 21 and I really like trading cards and video game related toys.

Also, one thing lead too another over the last two years and I wound up collecting G4 My Little Pony merch....

I'm also starting to collect Nerf stuff when I see it(I think Zag rubbed off on me). Right now I just have a couple of the N-Strike Revolvers(I have a third I found caked with dirt in a ditch I'm going to try and clean up and fix for the hell of it) and a Recon CS-9.

Been meaning to post some pics for awhile. Since I have a whole room in my house devoted to my toy collection, I decided to snap a few pics this morning and share. My first love with toys is/was and always shall be GI Joe:

The 1983 HQ:

All of the 1983 figures (Well, what I could fit in the frame anyways):

The ark is obviously from the Indiana Jones toyline

The 1984,85,86 shelf:

A couple complete Canadian variant playsets from 1986 and 1985 (respectively) with the box scene recreated:

I used to collect this kind of stuff. Maybe I'll have to dig them out and post here. I'm not sure I'm interested any more. Maybe I could pass along some stuff to you guys in sale/trade? I'll be right back...

That's easy......if you have a stack of cash!

A stack of cash is right. Being a home-owner makes it kinda tough to round up a spare $1000+ to drop on an (almost 30 year old) toy playset. Felt like showing off more pics of the collection today. Todays focus, Transformers!:
