Title: Anyone else here a crazed baseball fan?
Post by: JerryGreenwood on March 24, 2014, 01:09:00 PM
The smell of fresh cut grass, the transition from winter to spring, the taste of dirty hot dogs, the crack of the bat, the millions of calculations that happen in-between each swing as well as off the field.

CAN'T WAIT! (Even though my team stinks and the owners are clueless)

No but my cousin is. I can go to the yard and watch about 6-7 innings before I have to walk around. I havent watched baseball on TV since the Diamondbacks played the Yankees in the World Series.

It is soooooooooo boring to watch on TV.

I remember that on the local news.

I'll check SportsCenter for all the big hardball highlights of the day, myself. Otherwise, I'm not big on sitting through an entire game, except the postseason. And even then, I'll follow the play-by-play on MLB.com's GameCenter. I especially love it when the Dodgers, Braves, Yankees, and Angels eat it in the postseason.

The local minor-league affiliate (http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t476), however, is another story. I catch at least one "merchant night" game a year. Minor-league ball is faster-paced, especially without TV commercial spots to break up the action. Also, the guys on the field seem to be more focused, and play with greater intensity than their major-league counterparts-- which is understandable, since they all aspire to the majors-- and it really shows. There are quite a few overachievers on that field, and they're rarin' to put on a good show for the crowd. Best of all, of the couple dozen S.J. Giants games I've attended over the last 20 years, only two were losses.

I love baseball, but hate watching it on TV. Luckily, our local minor league team plays just across the street from where I work.

I wouldn't say I am crazed, but I do follow my hometown Rockies faithfully and catch between 3-5 games a season downtown at Coors Field. I rarely watch the actual games live on TV though, I record "Rockies Double Play" though, which shows all of the major plays and happenings from the last game in a half hour segment.

Jerry, you must be a Marlins or Mets fan then...

That said, I think crazed might be a strong word, but I do have two fantasy baseball teams I check on twice a day. I do have a local minor league baseball team that I try to catch a game or two a year here in Lakewood, NJ (they're low class A) and the kids love going. After years of losing (and badly) I finally got to see my Tigers succeed these past few years. So I do watch a few games a year on TV when they play the Yankees.

And watching the Yankees lose just makes my day.

You don't have to be a Red Sox fan to hate on the Yankees. ;)
I used to be a baseball fanatic, but I haven't done much besides track stats the past few years. I barely recognize most of the popular names these days.

Braves, Yankees. Weird combination of teams to like, I know. Don't watch much anymore though

Go Expos! Ha ha

Still though, that between the legs 1-2-3 double play was an awesome play.

GIANTS!? oh hell no...ha ha

My Rox finally fired our GM and the new guy seems halfway competent and we have changed out our farming system for the Isotopes and another new AA team, so next year should hopefully be a different season for us.

The Royals are looking insane. They barely squeaked into the playoffs and haven't lost a game since.

Title: Re: Anyone else here a crazed baseball fan?
Post by: Boshamp on October 11, 2014, 08:31:52 PM
Reminds me of my 2007 Rox. Barely made it into the postseason, blow through everybody in the NL...only to get swept by the Red Sox in in WS. KC's outfield is insane, plus they have tons of speed and a manager willing to take risks.

DOH! Walk-off homer to even up the series.

And it's off to SanFran...

Kansas City still making a postseason name for themselves...for the first time in my lifetime. (KC was last in the playoffs in '85, I was born in '86).

And San Francisco decides to one-up the Cardinals and take a walk-off for themselves.

This is a very intense and eventful postseason.

WOOOOO!

THREEPEAT-IN-EVEN-YEARS NL CHAMPS, BABY!

Holy crap, there's fireworks goin' off right now in my neighborhood in celebration!

And now the Giants will show you who the real kings of major league baseball are!

Introducing honorary Giants relief pitcher Joe Montana!

Well, here we are...game 7. Bumgarner gets into his third game of the series and has been killing it again tonight. If they win, it will be because of his insane performance. What a pitcher to have.

Holy crap, I'm hearing fireworks going off in my neighborhood. That can mean only one thing:

WOOOOO SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS THREEPEAT-IN-EVEN-YEARS WORLD SERIES CHAMPS, BABY!!!

Now I know I should show some grace and good sportsmanship and all...

but...

 :fu: F*CK THAT SH*T!  :fu2:

EAT IT, L.A. FANS! Oh yeah, you were all laughing and carrying on when the Codgers won the division. But you're not laughing NOW, are you? ARE YOU, I SAID!!! Go drool all over your beloved Fakers, losers!

Yeah, I got your ring to kiss RIGHT HERE! OH!!!

Sleep well tonight, Oakland A's...the Giants have avenged your defeat against the guys who denied the
baseball world another bay-area world series! They couldn't let a bunch of upstart ham-&-eggers from some glorified flyspeck cowtown in the middle of nowhere win it all, right? HELL NO! Kansas City? Yeah, more like Kans-A$$ SH*TTY!

And, what with it being so close to Halloween, it's only right that the team sporting the Halloween colors are the champs! Maybe if the Super Bowl was played around this time, the Bengals might have picked up a few Lombardis by now...

ANYway, see me be just as big a d*ck in 2016 when the Giants win it all for a fourth time! It's gonna happen, you'll see!

Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta tune into the local Fox affiliate KTVU to watch live coverage of rioters burning San Francisco to the ground.

All right, here's a poser for you:

Is this a pic of...

- Giants right-fielder Hunter Pence,

...OR...

- Some homeless guy who swiped a World Series Champs cap and t-shirt?

Close call.

Fun team to watch, but was surprised the Mets didn't take a few more games. My brother pitched with and is good friends with the brother of Luke Hoechever, so I was pulling for the Royals.  I'm a Red Sox fan, so no dog in the fight. Congrats Adam!

Not to be that guy, but that picture just screams "There are white people on the team - let's put shadows on them so they all look the same color!" .
Congrats to KC though. They've been waiting for the team to become relevant and have been pretty supportive, so it's a nice pick up for a city that's had a terrible run of sports lately. Good game with the Chiefs this week too to cap it off.

I have a question....

Who the fuck is Jonny Gomes? Dude wasn't even on the playoffs roster and he's talking shit. That bitch is gettin plunked in game 1 in the 2016 season IF -  and that's a huge if - he can make the roster.

Anyway, ggs Royals. Mets blew it, they should've won, but too many errors and misplayed balls.

Just a few people showed up for the parade and rally... 800K+ is what is estimated. Largest gathering in Missouri ever, beating out the Pope's visit to St. Louis.
