Title: Collecting Goals for 2015
Post by: Confiusion on December 31, 2014, 02:46:35 AM
Since I like the idea of the pinned thread above i would like to afk you if you have any collecting goals for 2015.

I'm a PS2 collector myself because i grew up with that one (my first console was the Nintendo 64 but i don't like collecting N64 stuff because complete games are rare nowadays).

PS2: about 230 games at the moment -> 300 at the end of the year.
Gamecube: about 50 games at the moment -> 70 at the end of the year, getting the last exclusive games that i would certainly like to play, e.g. Pikmin 2, Lost Kingdom 1+2, Baten Kaitos Origins and Skies of Arcadia Legends
PS3: about 30 games at the moment -> no defined goal, but there are chances that i will double the size of that part in my collection  :)

I have a lot of my games maxed out for shelf space by console right now, so one of my goals is to get rid of some stuff.

I actually have a more serious goal of not spending any actual money on games for as long as I can. I use trading sites and do trades with people here and elsewhere (with the caveat that it will cost money for shipping) and I got a lot of Gamestop credit from gift cards and games I'm going to return to ride out for a while.

Here's my hopes for goals:
*6500 total in all collection category (Currently sitting at 6002 so maybe?!?)
*Complete my Sega Saturn Set (16 Games Needed)
*Get down to 20 Licensed NES games needed.  (Sitting at 50 Games I need)
*Get 10 more boxes or CIB NES games for upgrades.
*Get all but Spider-Man Web of Fire Boxes and manuals for my loose carts and upgrades on 32X.

Will update more later.

My goals for next year are as follows:

375 Genesis titles (331 as of now, with 2 more coming in shortly I believe)
175 N64 titles (142 currently)
250 Gamecube (229 currently)

275 NES (227currently)

I'll give out a few collection milestones that I'm thiiiiis close to attaining:

- 300 full PS2 titles
- 200 full PS1 titles
- 200 full XBox titles
- 150 full Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games
- 150 NES games
- 150 full DS games
- 100 full Wii games
- 100 GameCube games
- 100 GBA games

And of course my Skylanders Trap Team goals:

- All trap master figures
- All new standard figures
- All mini figures

Finally, my most ambitious goal yet: make it to page 1 of the All Collections: All list (http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/collection.pl/viewall&firstresult=51&sort=COLLECTION). At present, I'd have to add over 200 new unique items to my stacks in order to attain this distinction.

UPDATE - Adding these to my list of goals for the second half of the year:

- Skylanders Superchargers dark edition starter pack for Wii U

- StarFox Zero for Wii U

My goal for 2015 is not to add much, but to dig deep into my backlog.

My goal for 2015?

A 3DS, hopefully.
Contoller, VMU, games, and television cable for my Dreamcast.
A PSVita, I hope.
And a Sega Genesis. (This one shouldn't be too difficult, I ought to be able to finally work out the deal I've had on the back burner with a fellow member soon.)

I don't think I have any specific collecting goals for software this year.  I'd like to pick up some C64 RPG games, along with some random filler (on disk, tape, or whatever).  Maybe about three or four of those 5.25 disk holders.  Maybe a few games for my Apple II.  I'm in talks with someone who may sell me their old Atari 800XL, so maybe some games for that as well (depending on the state of the disk drive, prob mostly disks).

EDIT - NEW GOALS

Retro PCs for most of the major eras - Almost done (missing Tandy-era and maybe an XT.  Maybe)
200 PC games (174 current)
1 Apple II game
1 Apple IIGS game
Some sort of new shelf (I'm out of room!)

Wow...

Besides playing all the games, I guess I wouldn't mind cracking 1,000 titles this year. Gonna take some work as I'm only at 749 but might as well shoot for the stars, right?

1. Play every game, even if only for a little bit.
2. 1,000 individual retail titles
3. Crack 100 titles of any one console. At 96 on the 360 and 83 on Wii
4. Get at least one more console's retail titles over 50. SNES is closest at 44
5. Have 20 home consoles, currently at 15.
6. Complete every loose game I own, only 4 left.
7. Get off page 8 on the colletors page. Shouln't be too hard since geting 1,000 would be page 6.
8. Move out of the in-laws basement and into a house. Not gaming related but who cares?

I think this list is pretty reasonable.

1. Obtain 2 of the 4 remaining licensed NES titles I need for a complete set
2. Get to 100 total Colecovision titles (currently at 83 86)
3. Obtain at least 10 more Atari 2600 titles, including finishing off Panda and Xonox subsets.
4. Obtain MUSHA on the Genesis
5. Obtain Wild Guns on the SNES
6. Obtain Silhouette Mirage on the PSX
7. Finish Starpath Supercharger CIB subset (Party Mix - IB, Rabbit Transit - CIB, Survival Island - C)
8. Obtain 2 of 5 Brazilain CCE Atari 2600 titles (Immies & Aggies, Mission 3000 A.D., Pizza Chef, Sea Monster, Squirrel)

**special - ensure that scans of all my software, hardware, and materials are scanned into the RF Gen database** :D

I found that without a goal, my collecting was a little less focused last year.

1. Reach 100 Super Famicom games (currently 85)
2. Pick up 10 Final Fantasy variants (any region)
3. Reach 525 games in my collection.

EDIT (01 May 2015): currently have 90 SFC games.  Other two goals were reached sooner than I expected.
EDIT (09 Dec 2015): reached 100 SFC games

As the honeymoon period of my retro game collecting ebbs, I have some more realistic, more well defined goals heading into the new year.

1. Slim down and refocus my collection:  I went through the period that everyone surely does, just buying whatever's out there at $1-$5 because, why not?  Well, when I looked at the piles and piles of carts, I realized why.  I hope to move in a year or two, and I know all of it can't come with me.  So, the bulk of the games that are doubles or simply things I won't play will be making their exit this year.

2. Continue to define and collect my NES beat 'em up subset:  I love beat 'em ups and I love the NES, so naturally I love where they intersect.  However, it's not as easy to define what is and is not a beat 'em up on the 8-bit systems.  It's a bit of a grey area that I look forward to exploring and collecting.

3. Continue to collect console beat 'em ups on other systems, too: Money will be tight this year, but I hold out hope that I can knock out a few of the more expensive 16-bit beat 'em ups out there.  Looking at you, Final Fight 3 and SNES Ninja Warriors.  Failing that, I'm sure there's some less expensive ones I can pick up.  The ocean of beat 'em up games is broader and deeper than even I realized.

4. Continue to buy from senseiman:  Might as well give myself a softball goal that will almost certainly happen.

5. Post more on RF Gen: It's been a great year of semi-lurking, but I hope to post more on the forums and possibly even put up a blog post or two this year.

    - Stunt Racer 64 - CIB
    - Super Bowling - CIB
    - Transformers: Beast Wars Transmetals - CIB
 - Fill in the blanks to make the rest of my N64 games all CIB
 - 200 North American N64 games had made this goal, since sold off 28 N64 games for condition
 - Continue cleaning games finished entire collection
 - Weed out the last shelf unit for anything I'm not interested in keeping. - finished

  - At least one title off my must own list
  - Darkwing Duck for the NES
  - More Homebrews
  - Skylanders Giants or Trap Team

- Fill in missing items in RFGEN database

I would like to stay focused on collecting this year.  I have faded away from collecting the past 4-5 years.

475 NES games = currently at 440
175 NES Boxes = currently at 154 ( picked up 4 already this year )
20 Quality Gameboy games = currently at 12
Make some more game cases for my Gameboy games
Downsize the rest of my collection

Focus on completing the NA GCN set, maybe hitting around 450. (375 currently)

Decide which system I would want to go for after the 'Cube...thinking maybe Game Boy if it is even possible, or the Wii U, since titles are few and far between.

Is really like to focus on Sega Genesis collecting, specifically CIB stuff, and maybe getting a few manuals I'm missing, but that has become expensive. Since I can source PS2 & original Xbox games dirt cheap, I'll probably concentrate on that for the foreseeable future, and just pick up the odd Genesis game as I find cheap. My wife and I are trying to save money for an infant adoption, so I'm actually trying to resist the impulse to buy as much.

I'm trying to tighten my budget a bit as well, albeit for different reasons. I want to get back into training brazilian jiu jitsu and need to budget money for gym dues...which is nothing like adopting an infant at all, and certainly not as admirable. I commend you.

LOL, I think my wife would kill me, almost literally, if I tried to do that!   :slick:

But thanks for the kind words.  We tried for years to get pregnant, then found out we couldn't have our own.  We also fostered for 5 years, but never got lucky enough to have some kids stay, and you can get really burnt out from that, so we quit, because we had.  Adoption is EXPENSIVE.  It may take us a while before we can get enough money together to actually pull it off.

A man after my own heart! Screw collecting! Life is too short! Download everything!

Remember that No Fear t-shirt from the 90s? "He who dies with the most toys, still dies."

Made it through my first month of 2015 without spending any actual out of pocket money on games. Feels awesome.

Since I eliminated Sega Genesis from my collection last year, I've been trying to figure out if there's another console I can jettison but I'm coming up blank, which is fine, but I'd like to push that envelope a little further eventually.

I've already surpassed my goal of 275 NES carts after picking up over 50 in the first 1.5 months of the year. I'm also only 7 from my Genesis goal for 2015...I think I will up my goal for each to 325 NES carts (approximately 47 more to reach that) and 400 Genesis games (need 32).

Just double checked the status of my Atlus PS2 subset and I am really getting close all of a sudden.

I only need Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land, Arcana Heart, and Dokapon Kingdom. Dokapon is a tough one to justify because I already have the Wii version, so I'm going to make Wizardry a priority for now.

That's awesome! I'm missing 4 on the PS2 including Wizardry and Arcana Heart as well. Good luck!

Just curious, what are the other two?

Skygunner and Tsugunai

Cool, those aren't too bad to get. I've had Sky Gunner forever but I decided to just buy Tsugunai on ebay last year when I thought I noticed the price creeping up (it wasn't).

I've been able to complete three of my goals so far:

- Upgrade one console to RGB (Most likely Genesis)

- Buy the following:
  X More Famicom/SuFami games
X At least one title off my must own list
X Darkwing Duck for the NES
  - More Homebrews
  - Skylanders Giants or Trap Team

- Fill in missing items in RFGEN database

My goals for 2015 are to:

- Finish getting aftermarket cases for my cartridges that are loose (Mostly Nintendo)
- Start building out my game room in the basement as I am already out of space to store my current collection and I am trying to resist just getting another shelf

Obviously since my previous posts, I started getting into Game Boy collecting for my review project, so out of the approximately 500+ original, legitimate/licensed North American releases on the Game Boy, I now have nearly 120, so I'm about a 5th of the way to a complete cart-only set.  I'm still going to seek out the unlicensed stuff, but I'm not going to fool myself into thinking I'll be scoring a copy of Wisdom Tree's "KJV Bible/Joshua" GB cart in my lifetime ;D

Just locked up a channel F with 7 games 5 boxed and 2 loose for 80.00.  I now have all the U.S. gaming consoles from 1972 to 1992 minus the adventurevison.  My need list is down to 5 for 1972 to 2012  with the need of a jvc xeye Neo geo sega cdx and a laseractive.  I'll be happy with a  neo geo or a neo geo cd. Good day today

Met some goals, failed some others. Considering some of the titles I ended up getting I'm pretty satisfied with how the year went overall for collecting. Looking forward to making some big goals over the next year.

Game Room Goal -

MORE SHELVES!!!! - Success!

My lovely wife had her brother bring me up many IKEA bookcases for my birthday this year so I've been able to get all my games out of boxes and off the floor over the last few months. It's still a work in progress, but that's due to lack of time and not shelf space anymore :)

Collecting Goals -

- Fire Emblem Sacred Stones CIB (Last North American FE) - Failure
Had a few loose copies come in the store so far, but no CIB ones :(
- Finish North American Working Designs Collection - Failure
Made almost no progress on this goal in 2015 :(
- Over 125 ATLUS Games across all systems - Success
Thanks to a generous Secret Santa gift and a great time game hunting in the south with Duke I ended up at 132 ATLUS titles for the year!!
- 90+ TG16 Games - I'm counting it!
I ened up at 86 games and not the 90 I had hoped for, but since one of those games was Magical Chase I'm counting it as a win!
- 25+ Turbo CD Games - Failure
One game shy :(
- Finish CIB Virtual Boy Collection - Failure
Made almost no progress on this one either :(
- Get either a Neo Geo CD or Atari Jaguar + Games - Success
Got myself an awesome little Atari Jaguar starter set early in the year!
- All Wii U games released in 2012 - Failure
Still a couple titles eluding me......Damn you Funky Barn!!!!!

I'm really happy with how I ended up this year. I didn't meet all of my goals, mainly the Colecovision, Supercharger, and CCE goals, but I took out some big hitters. I'm especially happy to knock 2 of the 4 games off my remaining licensed NES set and will have the goal of checking off at least one more in 2016.

Focus on completing the NA GCN set, maybe hitting around 450. (375 currently)

Decide which system I would want to go for after the 'Cube...thinking maybe Game Boy if it is even possible, or the Wii U, since titles are few and far between.

455 total titles for the GCN and have decided that I likely won't go for another completion after it.

- Clayfighter 63 1/3 Sculptor's Cut box
 - Get at least one of the following, the next 3 most expensive N64 titles after SC that I don't own yet:
    - Stunt Racer 64 - CIB
    - Super Bowling - CIB
    - Transformers: Beast Wars Transmetals - CIB
 - Fill in the blanks to make the rest of my N64 games all CIB
 - 200 North American N64 games had made this goal, since sold off 28 N64 games for condition
 - Continue cleaning games finished entire collection
 - Weed out the last shelf unit for anything I'm not interested in keeping. - finished

Like everyone, I didn't finish all my goals but I'm quite happy with what I did accomplish last year. Super Bowling was an exciting addition to the collection, glad to knock off one of the expensive N64 titles.

My biggest accomplishments were finishing some major projects that have been on/off in progress for years.

One was to clean every game in my collection, and document in my excel file any condition issues that bothered me. I finished cleaning every game, though I still need to do the same with Hardware.

After that I confirmed that my Excel and RFGeneration lists are both 100% accurate to what's on my shelves.

I also sold off everything that was too far gone in terms of condition even if I like the game, or if it wasn't at least 2/3 complete (box/game, or manual/game). Played a bit of every game that I wasn't familiar with to decide if it was worth keeping in my collection from a gamer's point of view. The overall theme of my collection is by far "Quality over Quantity" now, except of course N64 which I'm going for the full set still.

Lastly, and most practical, I made an extensive WTB list for every system I own. I'm so tired of shopping for games and having to do ebay searches for each title, or just go by gut instinct and risk making an expensive mistake. Now I never buy anything unless it's on my list and within the price range I dictated for it. I'll only pick up something not listed if I'm absolutely certain I want it and know the value. I plan on updating the prices and the contents of the list itself every six months or so. I would prefer to do it every three months but that's too unreasonable given the length of the list and how long it takes to price it out.

I'm going with more modest goals for 2015:

- Upgrade one console to RGB (Most likely Genesis)

- Buy the following:
  - More Famicom/SuFami games
  - At least one title off my must own list
  - Darkwing Duck for the NES
  - More Homebrews
  - Skylanders Giants or Trap Team

- Fill in missing items in RFGEN database

RGB and Skylanders moved over to 2016. 2015 was a good year with most of my goals completed.
