Title: Need For Speed Most Wanted
Post by: InvadErGII on October 30, 2012, 02:45:23 PM
It occurred to me today that with the release of the new Need For Speed Most Wanted, it will be the second unique title to bear that name this generation. My first thought, other than how lazy and unimaginative EA is, was how the RFG database will handle it. Will there be a way to distinguish the two outside of looking at the release year and other data? Is there an existing example of this sort of thing I'm not aware of?

Thanks EA!

Um, I'd guess that we could put a (2012) at the end of the new one to distinguish them. It's not officially the title, but it would allow us to distinguish between the two.

Is this new title going to be on the same console(s) as it was the first time? Or is this a next gen game?

Thanks EA!

That's what we've done in the past in the few instances this has happened before.

There is already a 360 game named Need for Speed Most Wanted.

In this case, I would add the year in the superscript variation title, even though the games are not variations of each other.

Need For Speed Most Wanted[2012] seems to work for me.

I would avoid adding the year to the actual title field unless there's absolutely no other way.

Alternatively, just take the time to look at the year of release. Not that hard, really, and only takes a second. If people "accidently" fail to add the correct game to their collection because they cannot look at the year of release, then they probably shouldn't be using a computer anyway.

Or, we can do what GameFAQs did, and use the game title's subscript:
Need for Speed: Most Wanted - A Criterion Game

I like the year better.

Half the people won't remember what developer made which game. Year would be better, imo. Or even better, nothing at all.

Well my website's data base generates the name from the game feed from xbox.com

The Old game is listed as
NFS Most Wanted

The New one is listed as
NFS: Most Wanted

TA lists is as Most wanted (2012) which to me makes the most sense given that EA has none when it comes to naming sequels.

Wish we could just use the Title IDs as identifiers and have the name be secondary, but I'm more inclined to go with TA's solution, which is:
Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012)

Also, thanks for chiming in man. Nice to hear from someone else that has a site with the problem.  :P
