OK, time to start rampant speculation and see what turns out to be right. Your predictions?

Not "online-only", but enhanced by having a constant connection, sort of what computers have been doing for the past decade.  More social media crap that the big-suits think appeal to my age group.  One or two first-party games, some other known franchises as far as games go.  Graphics and overall capabilities more or less on par with PS4.

IF their line-up consists of nothing but media crap apps and Halo 5/Gears 5/Forza 5/Fable IV then no thanks. I would like to be surprised though.

Since I didn't get to see any hardware at the Sony reveal (although the new DualShock  is cool), I want to see the next Xbox box.

In order to combat piracy the new Xbox will use HD-DVDs.

I am sure i will have plenty to complain about. I definitely want to know what the new price point is going to be so i can decide how many years i wait before getting one... if ever.

I predict that you can create virtual goods and sell them on an online marketplace. Think of it as "microtransactions." It's the next big thing.

Oh, and you'll be able to scan your skateboard right into the game.

You should know by now - EA's had a launch game for every system since PlayStation, AFAIK.

EDIT: Wait, no they haven't. Weird. You can obviously tell which systems they thought were going to fail. >.<

You have to scan your debit card on the controller before you play (which is why is has to be online all the time), then the Xbox gives you an option to print out a receipt showing your remaining bank account funds in Microsoft points.  Just in case.

I figured it would have just slip across the top between the bumpers and triggers.

no it'll be one of those chip cards, you stick it in like a memory card. if you try to remove it your system displays a warning and then automatically shuts down, and won't start up again without the card.

could very well be true but their only source is a blogger named Paul Thurrott. i'm not sure if that's a name i'm supposed to know, but i looked him up and see nothing that would imply he has any connection to microsoft or access to insider information. he's just a blogger. so it's really just rumours.

Maybe Illumiroom will be a part of the new Xbox?

^ When i first saw that i thought it was stupid as all fuck. I don't have a wall to dedicate as a projection screen. If i did i could still find a better use for it.

Since I drive for my job, I listen to podcasts like crazy. If I were Luke Skywalker, I might say, "I listen to more podcasts than you could imagine."

The most important "news," which is all speculation and crazy talk at this point, is that the "online all the time" requirement is not a blanket statement. Each publisher gets to decide if their game requires a constant internet connection.

I wonder if this means Microsoft/xbox/343 games will have that requirement and very few others? If it will be prevalent at first and then publishers will give it up as we get further into the life cycle of the console? If we will see very few games with that as a necessity to play?

For me, I won't buy any game that relies on a internet connection to play. Who's to say that a publisher won't turn off the sever a few months in on a game that doesn't sell well? Even if the game does sell well, what about 10 years from now, when me, as a collector, wants to fire up the game again? Will the connection still be there? Say the publisher releases an update which frees the game from the "always on" requirement but goes out of business a few year later. Where does that leave you a few years down the road, with a "new to you" console but nowhere to get the latest update?

Ugh, I wonder where we are headed. I like new games and old games, but I like to think there is the possibility I can play the games 60 years from now. I wonder.

Ultimately I don't think any software company really wants the consumer to "own" anything. We'll eventually get there, it's just a question of if it is during the next generation of consoles.
