Title: The New Game Room ( 95% complete )
Post by: killerkobra on June 22, 2013, 05:02:39 PM
Not sure if this is the best place to introduce myself but here goes

Hello to everyone,

My name is Dean and this is my official introduction. Im from Edmonton Alberta Canada, born and raised on the North side. I have basically been collecting video games since I was 4 ( I have all my original items still ) but have been seriously collecting for the past 3 years. My collection has grown at a steady speed, adding new items every week ( only breaking the bank a few times :P ) I have been a member of NintendoAge for the past 3 years also where I have gotten a large portion of my collection. I use the same user name on NA as I do here, killerkobra.

A buddy from NA said that I should check out the RF Gen Collectors Cast since I  enjoy listening to podcasts in my truck. I then found this forum. Really looking forward to entering my collection into the tools on here. Maybe I even have a few items I can enter.

I figured I could just post a few pics here to show everyone where Im at.

Heres a picture of my collection from before I got serious about collecting

Current Collection ( pics are just a few days old and I already have new stuff)

Also I have been working on a project to get every post I have made about getting a new item into one long thread. I just think I would be interesting to see the progression of my collection in one long read. Anyone interested in seeing in detail how and when I got a lot of my stuff????

Thanks singlebanana, It took like a year for me to get all the pieces together for it. I even got the topper recently for it so it will look even better!!! Freaking game is hard a hell though. The timer goes sooo fast and you only get 4 hits or less and your dead.

Ya Shadow Kisuragi it was and is a major pain in the butt, but I guess it has to be done at 1 point. How did your move go?

For me yesterday was Day 1 of moving the collection, I did 3 and 1/2 truck loads like this and I still have more to take over

Heres 90% of the collection crammed into the new game room

I was really happy to see that all my console and accessory boxes all fit on the shelves I put up. I don't have it organized for display just yet, I just threw them all up there for now.

I really like this shelves since I won't be able to display the front of every box at least I can read the bottoms of the boxes from underneath since the the shelving is see-through.

when I was clearing a bunch of old stuff outta the closet I found this. An arcade token…. Its a sign…

Funny, when I moved my collection into our new house a few years ago, I did it all myself. I wouldn't let the movers we hired to touch any of my stuff.

Ya man, I wont even let friends or family help move my collection. I did hire movers but only for the big stuff and my arcade. I moved it into my basement myself and I AM NOT moving it back out myself. Arcades are tough so ya, the movers can break their backs getting it out :P

Well here's the first new game for my collection to enter into the new game room. For some reason it shipped to my parents address ( my old old address ) So I picked it up on the way to my new house. My snes is packed away so I'm dying to try it out. Heard its a great game.

I thought you were packing in preparation for the floods that have been hitting Calgary and Alberta, but then I saw your profile and noticed you're north of all that.

Loving the new game room and shelves for the console boxes! Everything is going to look amazing.

No Thank The Video Game Gods! My heart goes out to the people where the floods happened. I have a lot of family and friends in Calgary and thankfully they were out of the danger areas.

Oh why does it have to be +30 C ( +86 F ) on the days we decided to move?!?!? Thank the gaming gods again, I moved the collection last week. This heat is making me fatigued and clumsy as can be. Good thing it's just small furniture I'm moving ;)

+30 C? That's a treat. I'm used to moving in +32 C or higher with 95% humidity.

We're getting our seasonal monsoon weather here in Florida, where you can time when the afternoon rainshowers will come. It's nice since it cools off everything in the afternoon.

Are the rains relatively warm at least? No matter what time of year it happens, the rain 'round my neck of the woods is always cold.

I was visiting relatives outside Washington DC many summers back when a big rainstorm hit, and I kinda dug that it was a warm one. I was gonna go hang out in it, but then the thunderstorms started up, and that was that.

Got caught up in a warm rain in Arizona one time, too. One of those heavy storms that popped up outta nowhere.

Dudes Im from Edmonton Alberta Canada, used to -30 not +30. Imagine being here in -35 with a 80 km wind chill, weather like that makes your nose bleed its so dry.... The cold dont bother me one bit though, but Im a wimp in the heat. You should see my sun burns :P

Yeah, it'll do that to you. After being in the sun for a bit, your skin will toughen up and you won't burn/peel as much. Unfortunately for me, I live in Florida and actually have a skin allergy to the sun.

Post by: killerkobra on July 19, 2013, 06:22:09 PM
So ever since I moved into the new house, all I have been doing is cleaning and fixing stuff. My wife has been been doing the same. Who knew a house that was lived in for 4 years by people in their late teens, early twenties would need so much work???  The little time I have left between my job and house work is spend on setting up my game room. I have had zero time to hunt for games or even internet shop since I want to focus on getting set up first.

I figured Id post some pics on how the game room is coming along….

Well in reality absolutely nothing has changed in the game room since I'm redoing all of my game shelves. I decided to paint everything I have black. White walls and black shelves. Simple as that. I wanted the games/posters/items I have to be the focus so I figured that this was the best way to make them "pop"

Its been a long journey so far and I have a ways to go yet…

All my shelves were laminate so its a bit of a process to do it right ( and trust me I still never did an amazing job, the games and posters will cover up my crappy job lol )

Just thought Id share since maybe other people wanted to try this, my advice…. Buy new shelves

Title: Re: The New Game Room ( 95% complete )
Post by: killerkobra on July 28, 2013, 09:18:57 PM
So after a few weeks of putting up shelves and redoing my old shelves the new game room is about 95% complete. I still have items to go in and some more shelves/ posters to put up. I thought I'd give an update to show how it looks so far.

So the age old collector question arose when I had to do all this " How do you fit a collection of 1200+ items in a space half the size of the old one?"

My answer - double sided  shelf space

these are my favourite new shelves I just put in. I decided to put all my favourite boxes on these shelves and it just so happens that they were all mostly NES boxes.

The pics might make this room seam cramped but it actually quite roomy.

Let me know what you guys think :)

Nice that looks cool as hell. The pics do kinda make it feel cramped. How many can fit when you are gaming? Didn't see a couch or chairs. Impressive box collection as well.

^ 4 people will fit comfortably, I have a futon couch and a brand new "Manager" computer chair. I don't plan on having a lot of people in here. The rest of the basement will be the hang out area. This room is for VIP only ;)

Lookin' good! A video tour of your room would be awesome since you've got everything laid out and displayed in really interesting ways.

awesome collection but i agree i think this would be a good room for a video tour. it's hard to show it off properly on a still camera in a small space when you can't back up far enough to get a lot in one shot. that and video tours are always good anyway ;)

I wonder what Jesus and the Gorton's fisherman are looking at?

Other than that, that's quite a stack of stuff you've built up there. Hope you don't run out of room any time soon.

Fleach and techwiazrd - never considered a video tour. Could be fun though

Zagnorch - Jesus and the Gorton's fisherman are looking at Mask from the Mighty Hercules "OLYMPIAAAAAAAAAA"

single banana -  I got it from 80stees.com 90% of the shirts I wear are from there.

Methinks I've just found the second vidya-related tee I'd be willing to wear in public:

A most beloved childhood PC game combined with a Chris Farley reference? Color me there!

Now I just hafta find one featuring Bull Shannon from Night Court...
