Title: Desperado/Once Upon a Time in Mexico
Post by: Lord Nepenthean on February 20, 2005, 09:42:37 PM

Decent movie about a guy with lots of guns in his guitar case.  The story is kind of lame, and the gun fights get out of hand, but it's allright entertainment if you're really bored.

Hey look, it's the same movie over again, injected with a hefty dose of stupid.  This movie is absolutely ridiculous.  The entire time, I was asking myself whether the director (same guy who directed Desperado)  was serious or joking.  The cover pretty much says it all.  It's a movie about Salma Hayek, Johnny Depp, and Antonio Mexican Guy, and how you should think all of them are really cool.  They're not, and this movie sucks.

Take the storyline of Metal Gear Solid 2, replace Russian with Spanish, switch boat to Mexico, and you've got this piece of trash with none of the fun.  The only thing that made watching this bearable was The Evil Leon's MST3K-style commentary throughout the movie.  (I assure you, it was a lot more colorful than anything those robots ever said.)

Don't see this filth.  If you MUST see a movie with Antonio Mexican Guy, and you have to be reminded a thousand times that he is from Mexico, go see Desperado.

Desperado was a better movie but I liked Johnny Depp' character in Once Upon aTimes.

I remember when Once Upon a Time in Mexico came out and they were making it out to be better than indoor plumbing.  I finally rented it about a year later and thought it was a piece of crap.  I really enjoyed Desperado and hoped this one would be better.
For true entertainment check out Jet Li in The One!

Both are stupid. Desperado's better. Once Upon a Time's fun though. if you let your brain leave for awhile. Just think, blind Johnny Depp. Makes me feel all tingly inside.

Are you a Mexican? Or A Mexican't?

Johnny Depp's character was definitely one of the few good things in Once Upon a Time in Mexico, but it wasn't enough to save the rest of the movie.  There were just too many other ridiculous things in it that could have been a lot better.

but did Salma Hayek look hot in them? if so the rest is immaterial. I mean, other than her snake dance scene is there really any reason to watch "From Dusk Till Dawn"? and that damn unibrow spoiled some potential hotness in "Frida".

From Dusk Till Dawn was directed by the same guy who did these two movies.  I haven't seen it though, so I couldn't tell you the first thing about how it compares to these two movies.

From Dusk Till Dawn is pretty messed up.  It blows these 2 away!

Salma Hayek was only in Once Upon a time for a few minutes.

Yeah, and somehow she still got top billing.  Hilarious.

You haven't seen From Dusk till Dawn? It's like Pulp Fiction with a giant vampire fight at the end. Lots of fun, and Salma pours whiskey down her naked leg and into Quentin Tarentino's mouth.

P.S. Johnny Depp blind makes me tingly because I wish he was. Not cause I like him in the movie.
