Title: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on March 04, 2005, 10:06:07 AM anyone up for some Fantasy baseball? it's a little more involved than the football was but we had a good time with that.
I've never set up a league on Yahoo. Shady, would you like to do the honors is enough are interested? you did a nice job on the football. Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Lord Nepenthean on March 04, 2005, 11:25:06 PM I'm definitely interested, and I think Rick did a great job with the fantasy football league, so if he is up for it, I think he'd be a good head for the league.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: shadytool on March 06, 2005, 06:39:21 AM i'm up for it. seems like it will be alot more involved than the football... just cause there are a shitload more games.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Lord Nepenthean on March 06, 2005, 06:50:08 AM Yeah, and I will do very badly I'm sure. I have absolutely no knowledge of baseball....
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: shadytool on March 07, 2005, 06:12:21 AM lets get this thing rolling on time... this time.
if interested i need email addresses to send out the invite to the league. we seemed to miss alot of the football season this past year cause of a late start, lets not let that happen with the baseball. also, should we do an auto-draft like with football? Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on March 07, 2005, 12:50:04 PM auto draft will be good. no advantage to anyone who knows their baseball that way, at least not in the draft.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Hydrobond on March 07, 2005, 01:24:16 PM I would be much more interested in participating with an auto draft, as I also know nothing about baseball players.
When do you need email addresses by? Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: two_scoop_steve on March 07, 2005, 06:54:59 PM I'm interested in some fantasy baseball..Autodraft will be fine since I work wierd hours all the time

Because I will do the draft and then never do another thing with the team. I tried a fantasy hockey league once and it was too much work. And hockey when playing has a short season. Baseball's season is like 2-3 years long. :-/ Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on March 10, 2005, 04:35:49 AM not everyone gets into fantasy sports. I'm a geek about it, I'm in some fantasy league or another year round.

If you a person just to be in there I will do it. But I won't be trading and moving my roster around. Who has time for that? To many games to play! Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on March 10, 2005, 10:42:08 AM no, don't do that. guys that draft a team then never set a roster bug me. It seems like every fantasy league I'm in when I'm in a chase for the top spot late in the season I'm playing another top team and the guy I'm chasing is playing a team that hasn't set a lineup since week 2. it's maddening I tells ya.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Hydrobond on March 10, 2005, 02:08:10 PM Just a warning, I'm not going to have much time to devote to this, but I will at least be making an effort to play. This will really be my first attempt at this, so im not even sure how much time/knowledge is required.

Then count me out. Takes WAY too much time to be good at this. Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on March 11, 2005, 04:44:54 AM not really, I spend about 2 minutes each morning setting my rosters for all my fantasy teams. once in awhile I comb the waiver wire if I have guys that are injured.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Sauza12 on March 11, 2005, 06:44:06 AM You can also set your lineup for the week at the begining of the week. That's how I handled my fantasy hockey team last year. I would check me team every once in a while during the week just to make sure no one got injured and to check for free agents. Probably no more than 30 minutes of work a week. If you can't squeeze 30 minutes into your week it's time to re-evaluate your life. ;)

Yeah but for pitcher don't you have to worry about who is starting. The people get hurt. To much research. Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on March 11, 2005, 07:00:57 AM starting pitchers have asterisks next to their names on days they are scheduled to start. with relief pitchers you don't ever know for sure if they will get in a game so those I just leave in all the time.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: shadytool on March 11, 2005, 02:30:04 PM ok, i'm back. crazy work week.
so are we still needing 3 people to get this started? i just want to have everyone in place before i set it up... it gives you like 3 days from the time you start the league to the draft day. Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on March 12, 2005, 04:15:05 AM so far we have:
den68 Reverend Nepenthean shadytool Sauza12 Hydrobond two_scoop_steve Jagdiesel 10 would be great but we need at least 1 more. I PM'd a few regulars. Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? I probably wont have the time or patience to see a full baseball schedule through. I mean I had a tough time with a football season :-[ Basketball is taking its toll on me as well. I just missed my first weekend of changes this season... Thanks for the pm though. |D Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on March 14, 2005, 12:42:06 PM one more. anyone?
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on March 30, 2005, 08:47:30 AM are we still gonna do this?
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: two_scoop_steve on March 30, 2005, 11:24:23 AM I hope so!! What do we need one more person?
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Lord Nepenthean on March 30, 2005, 11:48:39 AM Also haven't seen Rick around in a while. Dunno if he's busy wit work, wedding plans, or something else, but he hasn't been around in a while. The 20th of March was the last date he was here.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on March 30, 2005, 12:53:56 PM okay I set up a league. we need at least 4 teams before a draft date can be set. I set the league as autodraft.
This is a Yahoo league so you need a Yahoo ID. once you have one go here: http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/register/joinleague and select  "Join a Custom League" League ID: 289417 Password: steroids then create your team. once you have a team you can pre-rank your draft settings, or just leave the default draft rankings. This is the first league I've set up so pretty much just used the default settings. I can set a draft date after we get 4 teams. The last date for a draft is May 1st so sign up quick!! Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Lord Nepenthean on March 30, 2005, 02:11:18 PM Allrighty, I'm in. Who in the world is the Camel Toe team?
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on March 30, 2005, 03:26:13 PM I believe that would be Sauza.
once you guys join take a look at the set-up and let me know if you want anything changed. Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Lord Nepenthean on March 30, 2005, 04:21:38 PM I'm not even sure how this works, so everything seems just fine to me.

Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on March 31, 2005, 04:42:37 AM 5 teams so far. I need to set the leagues draft status to "ready" so sign up quick.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Lord Nepenthean on March 31, 2005, 06:33:08 AM I just e-mailed Rick (shady), so hopefully he gets the e-mail fairly soon and can join the league.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on March 31, 2005, 07:09:30 AM I e-mailed him yesterday too. once one more team joins I'll change the draft status.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: two_scoop_steve on March 31, 2005, 02:07:25 PM I'm in...The Orlando Moose
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on March 31, 2005, 05:48:09 PM okay we had 7 teams so I had my wife register a team so we'd have an even number. I changed our draft status to ready. it says it will happen between now and 11.59 PM on April 4th. so if anyone still wants in hit the link a few post up. if the draft hasn't happend you can still get in.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on April 02, 2005, 04:30:27 AM the teams have been drafted and ready for lineup changes. the season opens tomorrow so check to see if any of your players has a game. scores are accumulated for a week but you can change your line up daily.
if you look at your pitchers, guys who are scheduled to start have a little up arrow before their name. in the "P" slot you can use any pitcher, starter or reliever. You can drop or add players as often as you like. I didn't put any maximums on roster moves. Each team has 2 "DL" slots so if you have a guy injured that you don't want to cut permanently you can put him on the DL and grab a replacement till his return. When you injured guy is healthy and you want to activate him you'll have to drop the replacement or someone else to stay at the roster limit. all the rules are on the site so look through them if you've never played before. feel free to ask questions here. this is the first league I've set up but I have played in a couple before. Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Jagdiesel on April 04, 2005, 10:23:18 AM Got a helluva team this year. Pitching isnt quite the best but got Pedro so its all good on strikeouts. One helluva offensive lineup with some dandies on the bench.
Have 2 extra OF up for trade for pitching (starter preferred) or utility/infield player. good luck to all!!! Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on April 04, 2005, 10:28:26 AM okay I take it everything is working properly then? if anyone has any problems with lineup changes be sure to let me know.
that said... Play Ball! I'm listening to the Tigers game right now! Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on April 18, 2005, 04:54:20 AM so what does everyone think so far?
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Lord Nepenthean on April 18, 2005, 06:28:19 AM I think that I hope my changes do me at least a tiny bit of good. I'm pretty much getting my butt kicked here. I'm also having a lot of trouble with figuring out what to do about pitchers. It is fun though.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on April 18, 2005, 06:56:05 AM you'll be surprised how quick you learn all that stuff if you stick with it. learning the players takes a while.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Sauza12 on April 18, 2005, 07:15:16 AM I'm learning that I need some players who will steal a base every once in a while. |D
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: two_scoop_steve on May 23, 2005, 09:39:10 AM moving on up!!
4thPlace I will be in 1st by the end of the month Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Hydrobond on May 23, 2005, 10:51:30 AM Woot! I'm in 3rd place. And I havn't logged in since I created my team. :-)

Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on May 23, 2005, 01:01:43 PM ugh, I got crushed by my wifes team this week and fell further behind Jagdiesel. And I just had another star go on the DL, Vlad Guerrero this time.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Tynstar on May 23, 2005, 01:43:21 PM Don't worry Den there are still 500 weeks left in the season.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on May 23, 2005, 04:25:49 PM oh yeah, I fully intend to challenge for the title.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Sauza12 on May 24, 2005, 07:16:38 AM I can't seem to pull awayfrom the middle of the pack. I need to have a big win over Den this week.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Lord Nepenthean on May 24, 2005, 04:55:20 PM I am still trying to get the hang of this. It is definitely a lot different than fantasy football.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Jagdiesel on June 02, 2005, 12:56:32 PM A coupla bad weeks and suddenly Den is nipping at me heels. Gotta get my team to go looking for some slump busters next road trip...
This is gonna be a tight race all season. But... I'm sure I'll pull it out in the end :-/ Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Sauza12 on June 03, 2005, 07:30:20 AM Meanwhile I'm getting pummeled by the two headed Gruchala beast. first I lost 11-0 to Den, and now his wife is beating me unmerciful.

Post by: den68 on June 03, 2005, 08:11:49 AM I've been pestering Carol to keep up with her lineup changes. she got smoked by Jag a few weeks ago and he slipped by me into first. of she then proceded to do the same to me soon after and I fell furthur behind.
the beating I gave Sauza helped me catch up a bit though. sorry man. I see people have been doing some drop/ads. there's good players to be had still. getting familiar with how to manage lineup changes is the toughest part. but everyone should stick with it, it's still a long season. hell, Carol jumped from last to 4th in 3 weeks. no one is out of it yet. Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Tynstar on July 08, 2005, 12:24:26 PM How is this league going?
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on July 10, 2005, 04:14:48 AM very well I think. Jagdeisel is in 1st place. I'm 2nd a game and a half out. My wife is 3rd (and currently beating me this week) and Nep 4th.
Lot's of transactions are being made so it looks like everyone is sticking with it. Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: two_scoop_steve on July 10, 2005, 06:39:29 AM I'm in 5th place and Just picked uo a couple of Eric Gagne and Jim Thome both on the DL, So hopefully after the allstar game I can make a run.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: two_scoop_steve on July 11, 2005, 04:52:10 PM Moving on Up Now I'm in 4th place heading into the Allstar Game but I'm still 19 and a half out of first place and the top 3 teams are a couple of games from each other..
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on July 12, 2005, 04:52:13 AM I'm closing on Jag. My wife kicked my ass last week and kept me from gaining any more ground.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Sauza12 on July 12, 2005, 11:14:21 AM I am very slowly moving out from the basement. I'm in fifth right now and I need a big week against Den to move into a comfortable position for a playoff run.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: two_scoop_steve on July 25, 2005, 03:02:47 PM Yay know I'm in 3rd place by a half of game...Moving on up!!!
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on July 26, 2005, 04:20:31 AM guh, I had a chance to pass Jag as he got beat soundly but alas, Nep kicked my ass and kept me a game and a half out.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: two_scoop_steve on August 01, 2005, 05:21:13 AM I just beat Den's Wife Team 8-3 which I was really surprised because I was pretty much down the whole week and also I gained a couple of games on Den, I'm only 18 games back. This week I have a matchup with the Number 1 team in the league jag's crusher's.I'm sitting pretty at 93-83-11 and in 3rd place.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on August 04, 2005, 08:00:40 AM I fell a few games more behing Jag. I'm winning big so far this week. I hope it holds up.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on August 15, 2005, 04:42:11 AM worked myself into a first place tie just in time for a first place dual with Jag.
should be a good one. Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Sauza12 on August 15, 2005, 07:14:05 AM I also managed to work myself into the playoffs. Now I'm in a battle for third with the Moose.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on August 15, 2005, 08:43:17 AM it's been fun so far. fantasy baseball is a different beast than fantasy football. it's a bit more challenging with all the lineup changes you have to do. keeping up with all the scheduled starts for pitchers requires close attention too. once you get the hang of it it is a blast though.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Sauza12 on August 22, 2005, 07:59:48 AM Ha ha! Into third place I go! I don't see my team getting any higher than this, but it still feels good.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on August 22, 2005, 10:07:01 AM whew! I finally caught and passed Jag. let's see if I can stay there. only 2 weeks till playoffs! spots 3-6 are still up for grabs.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: Sauza12 on August 23, 2005, 07:03:54 AM It figures that in the last 2 weeks of the regular season I have too play the number 2 and then the number 1 team. Just my luck.
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball? Post by: den68 on September 07, 2005, 04:43:24 AM it's playoff time! Jag and I got the first round bye. spots 3-6 are duking it out as we speak.
