That's exactly what I was thinking when I read the article. The price is good, but it sucks that all those features were removed. I also prefer the slot loading drive, it's sleaker.
There was also a Wii model available for some time that looked just like the original, but didn't have GCN backward compatability anymore. I recently bought a Wii to keep at our lake house, and if I would have known this was coming out in the States and that Nintendo was dropping online channels for the Wii, I would have just gotten this version since it looks really cool. I do really like my baby blue Wii though.

People are practically giving away their wii games now, and Gamestop had them for $40 on black friday. I have one of the original Wiis and it's still kicking today, but has some issues reading Other M and Sin & Punishment.
