Title: Palm PSone
Post by: Lord Nepenthean on June 22, 2005, 10:59:12 AM
This is a bit old, but I don're remember seeing this particular portable PSone.  I remember seeing the one that the VCSp guy built, but to my knowledge, this is different.  Take a look at the site for a ton of cool info:

Second link doesn't work.
That was a pretty cool looking system though.

I would like to do something like that someday...
Probably in the very far off future.

the CD being exposed on the back seems a bit odd.

Not really, when you consider what you'd have to do to cover it up.  The guy who did the VCSp made a portable PlayStation and his CD drive was also exposed.

Yeah, that was the article.  I tried to post an image in the thread, which showed up for me since it was in my browser cache.  I guess they have remote linking disabled.  Sorry about that.

forgive my ignorance but wouldn't it be fairly easy to knock the CD off? not accidently touching it seems like a trick too.

I think as long as you're careful, you'd be fine.  Remember, this was made by one guy for personal use, not for consumer sale.  The kind of guy who makes one of these probably uses his portable gaming machines with more care than the kind of kid whose GameBoy ends up in the toilet.

Also, check his FAQ for more specific reasons on why there is no door protecting the CD.

The way it is designed you wouldn't really have to worry about hitting the CD.
Seems like you would have to try honestly.

oh come on! who hasn't played their Gameboy in the bathroom?

Though I will say I've been careful thus far not to drop mine in the toilet.

Nope.

I have 10 handheld games. And 6 of those I dont even have the system to play them on.

I've got around 12 different handheld systems and a couple hundred or so of the dedicated handhelds. I do enjoy portable gaming. some are better than others but they each have their charm, even the lowly R-Zone.
