Remember, this was made by one guy for personal use, not for consumer sale. The kind of guy who makes one of these probably uses his portable gaming machines with more care than the kind of kid whose GameBoy ends up in the toilet.
Also, check his FAQ for more specific reasons on why there is no door protecting the CD. I do enjoy portable gaming. some are better than others but they each have their charm, even the lowly R-Zone.
