Title: Firecrackers and sewers?
Post by: den68 on July 03, 2005, 02:48:38 PM
If someone dropped a large firecracker down the sewer can it cause your sewer to back up?

this morning my basement rug was wet but only in a 3 foot circle around the sewer drain. it hadn't rained, he haven't ran the central air and the hot water heater is still working.

last night some yahoos were shooting off bottle rockets and suddenly there was an extremely loud "BOOM!", loud enough to make the house vibrate. but just one. then I wake up this morning with a wet basement.

coincidence, probably but I can't figure where the water came from.

Only one way to find out try it yourself!

I suppose though that if it was a big enough firework(which it sounds liek it was)
And there was already a bunch of water in the drains (which it sounds like there wasn't) it could be a firework to blame.

curses! further investigation revealed it was in fact a leaky hot water heater. though all is well now.

the joys of home ownership.

Well, the mystery is solved.

Even thought it doesn't matter anymore I don't think dropping a firecracker down the toilet would damage the pipes. at least not metal ones.  It doesn't seem powerful enough.  But maybe an M 80 would, its a quarter stick of dynamite.

well this thing shook the house so I imagine it was of the M-80 variety.

About a week ago me and some friends got the idea to move my ping pong table outside, where there's a ton of room to dive and run around so you get exercise while playing ping pong. It got dark and it was incredibly fun so we set up some work lights into a mini arena and then we pulled out a cd player and started making lots of noise with Aquabats etc.
So there we were pinging our pong when all of the sudden something, that came from the next door neighbors arm, sails over the fence and lands in the grass next to my driveway where the ping pong tables set up. I saw the wick sizzling and then it blew up big big. And now there is a small crater in the neighbors yard a la M-80.

P.S. I stayed up till 6:00 last night/morning playing AA so i apologize in advance for all my posts today.
