Title: Live 8?
Post by: den68 on July 05, 2005, 05:40:50 AM
did anyone see any of this? I heard the MTV coverage was overloaded with commercials. I would have liked to have seen the Pink Floyd reunion.

I would imagine there will be as DVD release at some point.

I saw some and it seemed like circle jerk for big old artists. I guess it's good if you like them, but it wasn't for me.

I saw on tv or heard some of this on the radio, but not Pink Floyd.   MTV/VH1 had commercials. This is basically how their coverage went:

1  "Here's (insert band name)"  (3 minutes) wait through sometimes crappy/boring performance (Dave Matthews band especially-THEY SUCK!!!!!)

2 "Here's an interview with the people in Philly waiting in line for water" (45 seconds) Teen agers and early twentysomethings standing around

3 Commercials (3 Min) Must include promo for cause

4 Bono promoting cause Ad (45 seconds)

return to #1 and re run through.

Some of the music was good, but the bands only had someting like 15 minutes to perform.  Will Smith was good.  He started with the theme from Fresh Prince, and the crowd really got into it.  I would have liked to seen the Paul McCartney/Bono song, but missed it.

I saw parts of it on BBC....the sad part is that I didn't even know whatl it was at first...I would've really liked to go to one of the areas where it was held if I had known earlier...oh well.  ;)

I got to hear one of the Floyd songs (Wish You Were Here) on the radio this morning. They sounded good. Roger Waters has not performed with Floyd in over 20 years. That really would have been something to see.

I dont even know what the concert was for. All I know is Ebay pulled all the tickets being sold for the concert off the site.

I listened to it on the radio.  It was pretty interesting hearing Green Day sing American Idiot in Berlin (I think).

The Versailles concert was directly behind my apartment, but none of the bands there interested me so I sat in the pub down the road like a good Englishman.

I watched the whole thing live, with unitnerrupted coverage on the BBC, no adverts, all
10 hours or so of it.

You didn't happen to record any of it then, since you had such great access to it, did you?

There were a few picture threads of the Philly one on another website I frequent, but nothing too spectacular.  (Other than the fact that an estimated 1 million people showed up for the concert.)

i did not record it, but put put a shout out  to people, as BBC 3 and BBC 4 will be sure to run full repeats of the live music quite regulalry.

There was another smaller concert today in Scotland too.

To fight poverty.  They had a petition to forgive the debts of the poorest countries in Africa.  Last I heard they had somewhere around 30 million signatures in the United States alone.
