Title: How many of your games have you actually played?
Post by: Arrrhalomynn on July 29, 2005, 05:07:24 PM
'Do you play all these games?' is an often heard phrase for us collectors (at least for me). So I decided to find out how many of my games I have actually played.

So games you've only tried to see if they work, or to see what they are like don't count. On the other hand, it's not like you have to have finished the game. Personally, I consider the games 'played', when I have played them long enough to justify a purchase even if it weren't for the collection. Of course this depends on the game. Of course this depends on the game. Some games can be played though in an hour, while others have barely started after a 5 hour gaming session. In other words, it's no rocket science ;).

According to Cart Commander I have 539 unique games. I have played 106 games. Which means I've actually played 19.6% of the games in my collection. Not a bad score, I like to think :).

If anybody cares what games I've actually played, I made a list while counting:

I'm afraid to add it up.  I don't think I would get anywhere near the almost 20% arrr got.

Hey Izret, what percentage is that? This topic is about the games played/owned games ratio.

Still adding games so i haven't been able to get a tally :P
I just added a shit load more.

I printed out my entire list of games and marked the ones that I felt I played enough to be considered "played", and I came up with 108 out of 266.  That's about 41%, although I'm sure some of those games just stand out in my memory better than others, so 41% is more than likely a little high.

Wow seems like i am in the minority...

I have played almost all of my games.
Mind you, i believe those are only games i currently have in my collection.(At most i don't own 5 of those games anymore or never did)
I could add ALOT of games played to that list besides those.

I only have about 100 console games and I would guess I've played about 80-85 of them. It's not that I don't intend to play them all, It's just that I get stuck on certain games for soooo long and just don't have the time for the rest. And there are some good games I have and just haven't played yet because of newer games. For example; Knights of the Old Republic for the Xbox is somehow more appealing then Crystalis for the NES. I really do want to play Crystalis though and keep wishing I had the time.

About 10%.

I can honestly say that I have played every last game that I own, with the acception of Chrono Cross.  I don't have near as any games as you guys though, I'm more into playing them rather than collecting.

Title: Re: How many of your games have you actually playe
Post by: atari_wizard on July 30, 2005, 05:07:17 PM
i've played maybe 25% of them, not counting variations. i try to play a few new games whenever possible. i've played all 30+ of my game cube games though. lol

Title: Re: How many of your games have you actually playe
Post by: den68 on July 31, 2005, 03:22:29 PM
ugh. nowhere near 20%, especially since Arrr has taken games tested out of the equation.

I've got about 3300 games logged here and I've yet to add my PS2, Gamecube and Xbox games. that would add another 400 titles to the count.

I've REALLY played about 400 of them. what's that? like 10%?

sad. I should stop hunting and play what I already have. I have at least popped in and tried about 90% of what I have. though that would only amount to only 10 minutes to a half hour per game.

hunting is as much fun as playing

Title: Re: How many of your games have you actually playe

Since I don't collect, I've played 100% of all games I own. But, if I was to add in the family collection, it would probably be closer to 75%, since I have a rather large family with quite a few games.

Title: Re: How many of your games have you actually playe
Post by: Lord Nepenthean on July 31, 2005, 07:40:50 PM
Umm, I'm not even going to attempt to get a percentage.  Before I started collecting, I could easily say I had really played 100% of my games, and probably a good 75% of them to completion.  Now, though?  Pffff.  I don't have close to the largest collection here, but I can safely say I have played maybe 10% of my games, probably less.

Have I played many many many more games than that that I do not own or don't own anymore?  Hell yes.  I have played hundreds of games for a good amount of time each, but many of them are not in my collection (my literal collection, not my online collection, which is not even close to being up-to-date).

I would say I have played about 10% of my games. I have tested more then that but not played.

I've probably played about half of my collection.  I still do have a large number of PS2 and Genesis games that I haven't played.

The number of games i have played to own is going to keep climbing.

I can't really buy much for awhile and i am almost never on Halo 2 anymore so i have been breaking the seal on PS2 games all of which have been good so far :)

I've played ALL of my games, and played most of them for more than a few minutes.  Of course, I only buy games that I know I'll play.

Crystalis! Wow, does that bring back memories! I LOVED that game. It was one of my personal favorite NES titles. You'll really enjoy that one when you get around to it.

Phantasy Star 3 on the Genesis was another excellent RPG from back in the day. From what I remember, it was one of the first RPGs that had something like 4 different endings depending on certain decisions you made earlier in the game. I think at the 1/3rd point, you had to choose one of 2 quests and at the 2/3 point, you had to decide who to marry, which opened up one of 2 different adventure paths.

I second that finding the time to really get into playing the games is a real challenge.

No kidding.  I've only had a chance to play one game in the past two weeks and that was Halo at Den's.  Every other night is dedicated to work and housework.

I played Halo2 for about 15 minutes this morning.

being at work all freakin' day does interfere with a lot of game playing time doesn't it?

I'm almost up to the 80% mark. :D
To be totally honest though i would rather have stayed at the 75% mark and just kept playing new games as i was getting them rather than getting nearly no games and playing them and others.

Somehow I had missed looking at this thread for awhile, who knew someone was going to referance something I said?  :)

Now I'm stuck on Fable, before that Freelancer. I still want to play Crystalis but when will the time come? I guess I could deligate some of my video game playing to the wife, that would free up some time right?

According to your description of playing, I've probably only 'played' about half of the games in my NES collection.  Come to think of it, probably even less than that....I never kept count, though, so I could be way off ;)
