Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: den68 on August 02, 2005, 11:48:38 AM New York is a cool city to visit. I've been there 4 times though 3 of those visits were in the 80's and the last being at least 6 years ago. I expect it's changed a bit.
Have a good time but watch where you step. The Taxis won't stop for you... or slow down. unless you need a ride of course. Yeah, but he is the one who really wanted to go, and you probably know how he is about taking initiative to go anywhere even ten minutes away, much less all the way to NYC. Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: TraderJake on August 09, 2005, 02:04:09 PM I'll be the first to say it, but sorry to hear your trip was lackluster. I suppose that could happen though when you go with a bunch of girls and there's a lot of shopping involved.
Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: Hydrobond on August 09, 2005, 03:05:09 PM NYC is a dirty dirty place. I highly recommend no one ever go there.
Expect an account of the city w/pictures this weekend. Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: Hydrobond on September 01, 2005, 09:10:39 AM I finally got around to editing the pictures from the NYC trip.

Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: den68 on September 01, 2005, 12:48:29 PM well the Guggenheim still looks about the same as I remember it.
did you go in it? lot of good art museums in NYC. how about the Metropolitan or the Museum of Modern Art or the Whitney? Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: Hydrobond on September 01, 2005, 02:07:20 PM I was actually dissapointed to see that the Guggeinheim was in such poor shape, it needs some major repairs.
We were planning on going into the Guggenheim, however it was closed that day. Additionally, we were supposed to go to MoMA, but instead chose to get a good spot in line for The Daily Show. Plus it would have been an additional cab fare. If you are ever in NYC again, I highly recommend seeing The Daily Show, it was certainly a highlight of the trip. The Nintendo store wasn't really "impressive" more than exactly what I was expecting. There were areas to play Game Cube and any Game Boy game. (They had a nifty little rig that got the Game Boy games from a central server, and all you did was select the game you wanted to play.) There was a little gift shop area and a Nintendo museum if you will. I will post the pictures of that part soon. I hadn't planned on going to the Nintendo store at all, but actually happened upon it while I was at Rockafeller Center. (The Nintendo store is right next to the studio for The Today Show.) It is a giant Museum of Nintendo goodness. I need to go there... Soon. Very soon. Does it cost money to get in? I have never actually heard much or seen anything from inside the place before. Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: Hydrobond on September 01, 2005, 03:05:27 PM Its all free. And they only have one display case with this stuff in it, its about 10' by 4', nothing spectacular.
Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: Izret101 on September 01, 2005, 03:18:44 PM Awww...
So pretty much everything in the pics is all there is? Ok so i don't want to go as badly now. Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: Hydrobond on September 01, 2005, 03:34:52 PM The only thing that I didn't take a picture of was a cabinet that had a keyboard (piano, not pc) and the really big gun for SNES. It is a store first and foremost with a little homage to Nintendo past on the second floor.
Also, if you look at the top of the Nintendo World picture, you can see the Game Cube area. There were egg chairs like in Men in Black set up facing 4 plamsa screens each with a Game Cube hooked up. It wasn't very crowded either, which was shocking for NYC, I can only imagine what it looks like during the Christmas rush though. Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: atari_wizard on September 01, 2005, 04:20:33 PM thanx so much for sharing! those pics are awesome. i was just up there and had no idea this place existed. what exactly is the last picture? i know its a keyboard and tape recorder, but what for? was this a prototype? or for the famicom?
Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: NDiddy on September 01, 2005, 04:27:09 PM Yes truly awesome pics really liked all those gba sp's.
Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: Hydrobond on September 01, 2005, 05:04:32 PM It's a prototype for the NES called the AVS (Advanced Video System).
Advanced Video System (from the caption card in the lower left hand corner): The Advanced Video System, or AVS, was the prototype of the popular Nintendo Entertainment System. The AVS was shown publicly only once, in 1985 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The AVS was revolutionary for its day. The system included a keyboard, handheld joystick, light wand/gun, music keybo!rd, and a data storage unit, that were all integrated wireless. The revolutionary controllers were also wireless, and could be stored in the front of the main unit, or control deck, when not in use. The AVS combined many features found in computers of the day and included innovative functions such as game editing and storage, music composition, loght wand-TV game interaction (you could shoot at the TV), and never before seen 8-bit video game graphics. Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: Izret101 on September 01, 2005, 05:09:44 PM Quote The AVS combined many features found in computers of the day and included innovative functions such as game editing and storage, music composition, loght wand-TV game interaction (you could shoot at the TV), and never before seen 8-bit video game graphics. Unless you had been in Japan. I am pretty sure that is just the American version of something that was released over there. It is very cool though. Too bad it didn't get made over here. and too bad there is only that one. That would make a very very cool conversation piece. Also they have the Zelda GBA from Europe there. Was that an actual Euro one or was it one of the uber rare ones that only 10 of where made in the US and given away in a Nintendo contest? Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: Hydrobond on September 01, 2005, 06:29:50 PM There were 30 made, or at least it says that on the info sheet next to the gold SP.
Title: Re: Going to NYC Post by: CatchFiveBats on September 01, 2005, 06:46:14 PM I would love to save up $500-$1000 and just go crazy at the Nintendo World Store.
