Title: Famicom question...
Post by: Cptalbertwesker on September 11, 2005, 08:57:39 AM
I am currently looking into buying a famicom from a friend/selling person who lives in Japan.
At the same time I am looking into buying a Japanese Playstation from him for my sister.

Is £50/$91 relatively decent price for the two.

The famicom would have a box, and a game.
The playstation no box, but a couple of controllers, a few games and a memory card.

Does this sound reasonable?

Does this price include shipping?  If it does, then I would consider it a good deal.  If it doesn't, then I'd say it's borderline, as shipping costs tend to be quite high from Japan.  But, ultimately it comes down to how much you would like to pay for the items, especially since shipping costs are a large chunk of the total price.

It's not a bad deal, so if you are happy with paying that amount for the two consoles, then you should definitely do it!

Thank you

Yeah, thats the only problem, he's gonna tell me the shipping some time today when he can get to a post office. But I can't see if getting much higher than an extra £40. The problem is there is really no where where I can find the value for a famicom boxed. ('cos the playstation is worth hardly anything :P)
I'd check on ebay, but the only ones on there are in honk kong with £50 shipping, and quite a bit of money for the machine its self.

Do you or does anyone know of a rough price that should be paid for famicoms?

I don't know of the cost of a Famicom boxed, but I would like to point you to Messiah's web site.  They recently came out with a re-release/clone NES system that will play NES and Famicom games.  It is only going to be about $60, and they are hoping to include NTSC and PAL game support.  I know I may sound like I'm advertising for them, but my point in mentioning the system is that it may be something you'd be interested in if you just want the Famicom to play games.  Of course if you want it for the collector's value/history/whatever this thing would be of little interest.  Anyway, the site is http://www.playmessiah.com
