Title: going to Cedar Point!
Post by: den68 on September 15, 2005, 06:51:08 AM
My wife and I are going there Sept 30th and Oct 1st.  Our daughter is staying home with grandma. since the park doesn't open until 5 or 6 friday I'll get to do a little hunting before hand. there's a Goodwill just before you hit the CP Causeway.

Maybe I'll shoot a few more pics in the arcade. But damn, I'm just looking forward to riding some coasters.

Awesome, man!  Cedar Point is by far my favorite amusement park.  I can't say I've been to parks all over the world, but I have been to quite a few in the U.S. and Canada.  Cedar Point blows them all away.  King's Island is a far-off second, mainly because it has a great collection of coasters (but not much else going for it).

Even if you don't take more pictures of the arcade, it'd be cool if you posted some of your old ones again for the people who have never had the pleasure to see the greatness that arcade is.

Well I thought I posted in this thread but I guess I didn't... hmm...

Anyways, I'm jealous. It would make my year to be able to go back up there before the end of the season, but co-op and school have kept me pretty busy. It's a shame as I've gotten to go for free for the last two years thanks to my enslavement at a local amusement park.

Be sure to ride all the roller coasters! Don't forget about their new frisbee Maxair, which should be awesome (since it is the same ride as PKI's Delirium), and make sure to get a ride on Demon Drop since this may be it's last year of operation.

oh I've been on them all MANY times! my wife and I have gone to Cedar Point every year except one since 1991.

I hadn't heard anything about Demon Drop getting ousted. I will make a point to ride it.

Cedar Point does have some great coasters.  You may think it a bit odd, but I think my favorite is still the Blue Streak.  Coasters like that are so much better than some of the new steel monstrosities.

Blue Streak? Meh.

I hold the opinion that this lovely coaster is the best ride at CP.

I love wooden rollercoasters.  There's just something about them that I like way more than the new steel ones.

Cedar Point is the steel coaster capital of the world. Poor place only has Blue Streak and a terrible Meaner Streak.

Starting in 2006 though, it could be argued that Holiday World is the Wooden Coaster Capital of the World, and that just so happens to be in Indiana. Lucky you!

I haven't been there in about 6 years but they used to have a wooden twin racing coaster (Gemini I think was the name), did they take that out?  I like both wooden and steel coasters but the thing I like best about some of the older wooden ones is the line, there usually is almost no wait.  You can't go wrong getting in three rides in the time it would take you for one.

the Gemini is still there. (how could you miss that one TraderJake?) there is also another small wooden coaster called The Mine Ride.

I agree with Nep that The Blue Streak is still an awesome ride. The steel beasts are a rush but there is no denying the charm of a classic wooden coaster.

in two weeks I'll be riding them all! plus it's Hallow Weekends so there will be some haunted houses to hit as well.

The mention of the Gemeni i am reminded of the machine in the arcade with coasters from this place.
It had 6 coasters.

So i have ridden 4 virtual versions of the coasters at that place. Gemeni being one of them.

I didn't miss either or those rides, they are actually functionally steel roller coasters. The support structure does not define the type of coaster it is, but rather it is the track that defines the type of coaster. Both Gemini and Cedar Creek Mine Ride have steel tubular track, so they are steel coasters.

Think of it in a different way: Cornball Express at Indiana Beach has a steel structure, but the track itself is wooden. As such, the ride is a wooden coaster.

I never would have guesed, from what I remember their ride is more like an old wooden coaster then it is like a modern steel coaster.

Me neither. The Cedar Creek Mine Ride does show it's steel more than the Gemini. The last quick spirals just before you return to the loading dock on Gemini are the only parts where the steel track is obvious.

Functional classifications aside, I'll still think of both as wooden coasters.

Actually, I've been going there since before I can remember.  That's a lot of the reason why I like wooden coasters so much; I had never ridden a steel one until 2-3 years ago.

There aren't any amusement parks within reasonable distance of my house for a short trip with a 4-person family, so we went to Holiday World for vacations.  Not only that, but the park is clean, the employees are friendly, there are FREE SOFT DRINKS, and they have the best water park I know of anywhere.  I personally think that Holiday World is, in terms of overall enjoyment, the best amusement park around.

I went to Holiday World for the first time this summer, and I must say that I was impressed. Friendly staff, two world renowned rollercoasters, two really nice owners, free drinks, one hell of a water park, free parking, and a whole lot of industry trade awards -- Holiday World has one of the nicest feels of any amusement park that I have went to. I'm going to try very hard to back to Holiday World in 2006 since it is only a three hour drive from Cincinnati.

I worked at PKI for four years, and both Cedar Point and Holiday World are highly regarded at the park. Holiday World is the model for how staff members should act, and Cedar Point is... well... Cedar Point. Both parks are really amazing.

sounds like I need to check out this Holiday World. I've only been to Cedar Point, Kings Island, Geauga Lake and Kentucky Kingdom.

I guess I'm going to Cedar Point Saturday.  I don't want to go, but apparently what I say doesn't matter.

A few of my friends decided to take a trip down to Cedar Point on the 24th.  My girlfriend and I went over to one of thier houses to watch football on Sunday and they asked if we wanted to go.  I said it would probably be fun, but I don't have the money to go to Cedar Point right now, but I'd think about it.  After we left, my girlfriend and I talked about it and I said I didn't want to go because I just didn't have the $100 it would cost to go down there.  I thought that was the end of it.

Yesterday my girlfriend and I drove by a church/elementary school that is holding thier annual carnival this weekend.  We both want to go, and she said that it's to bad we can't go Saturday.  I asked "why not", to which she replies because we are going to Cedar Point.

???
Well, thanks for telling me.  I don't think I have ever been mad about going to Cedar Point before.

Since I am contemplating going to the Po!nt on the 15th, could do some reconnaissance for me in Sandusky Area Stores for Pepsi cans that have discounts for admission to the park? I would think that they would since you can get into PKI for 27 dollars, which is much cheaper than the Po!nt's 45 dollar admission.

Hope Top Thrill Dragster is open this weekend, it has been down for a while, but they hope to have it open, and I hope your trip rocks, and it isn't frigid up along the Lake.

well the trip was a blast! I didn't take my camera though. oops. the Top Thrill Dragster did not run at all on Friday or Saturday.

One thing that sucked was I couldn't ride the Millennium Force. Apparently due to an incident at another park the manufacturer of the ride reduced the lap belt length by 2 inches. Well that was enough to keep it from fitting around the old beer gut. Luckily I'd only has a 5 minute wait before I tried to get on. The "ride host" asked me, "didn't you try the test seat before getting in line?".  uhhh, no. why would I ? I rode the damn thing every year since it was built. There was no notice of any change to the seat belt, what would make me think I couldn't ride?

ah well, more incentive to lose a few pounds I guess.
