Title: A Note on the Board Screwing Up Post by: Lord Nepenthean on September 27, 2005, 08:03:34 PM Here's the story on why the board was doing seriously messed up things today.
Our server recently changed our disk space limit to "Unlimited." I had no idea why they would do such a thing, but didn't complain. Today I think they figured out their mistake and put the limit back. The problem? We had gone over the limit they put us back to. This meant that every time a file got edited (such as by making a post to the boards), that file would be rejected by the server and the data was lost, effectively deleting the site one file at a time. The problem has been fixed. Thanks to the full backup of the boards that we make every night, I was able to restore this to at least 98% of what it was when things started getting screwed up. At a maximum, some of the indexes may be a bit off for a day or two, and we can have only lost posts in a maximum of three threads (one for each of the three forums that went down). Hopefully we didn't lose anything else. Member profiles that were messed up (maybe five or so) should also be restored. Post counts may not reflect posting for the day of September 27th for these few users, but everyone else should be just fine. Anyone who was affected (I can double check if you think you were) can tell me and I can add the number of posts you had for the day manually. All should be in order now, and it shouldn't happen again. Thank goodness it wasn't too big of a problem.
