Title: I live in a castle (well, sort of). Post by: Lord Nepenthean on October 28, 2005, 08:44:48 AM Some of you may have noticed that the past two months I have been around here less. Here is at least a partial explanation.
So about two months ago I moved out of my parents' place and into a house with three roommates. Here is what it looked like: (http://64.56.97.146/RoverDocuments/20030904O4134600JPG_med_000_CA5AE4638D2A43C1901AD81D7BF9CD64_V_0.JPG) link (http://64.56.97.146/RoverDocuments/20030904O4134600JPG_med_000_CA5AE4638D2A43C1901AD81D7BF9CD64_V_0.JPG) Moving of course takes time, so this was why I was away at the end of August/beginning of September. Then I got a call from a friend in Texas. This friend of mine wanted to move to Cincinnati, so I offered to share my room in the house you see above with them. I left for Texas and helped my friend unpack their apartment and repack everything in the car. We drove to Cincinnati and unpacked into the house. This was fine for a while, but my roommates didn't like the situation. I had to respect this, so my friend had to find another place to live. I wanted to move out as well because the situation in that house was not working for me for several reasons. Anyway, we started searching. We found a place that seemed like a good deal, was spacious, and appeared very nice. We signed a lease, put down a deposit, paid our first month of rent, and started moving in. I had Cinergy come out to turn on the gas and electric and found the following: broken hot water heater, two non-working stove burners, two windows that didn't close properly, a screeching fridge, and a heater that the technician said would "catch the carpet on fire." Needless to say, we demanded, in writing, that these things be fixed or we would not stay and would need our money back. I received the check for my returned deposit and rent a few days ago. So we had to find another place to live in a very short period of time. In about three days time, one of my roommate's friends was moving in to take my room in the house we had been living in. We got lucky and this is where we live now: on the third floor of a mansion built in 1890, overlooking two acres of gardens. The balcony on top of the tower is especially nice. I am thrilled to finally be done with moving in and out, but even more thrilled that I live in a freaking castle. Title: Re: I live in a castle (well, sort of). Post by: Ron_Mexico on October 28, 2005, 09:01:01 AM That is a cool Castle you live in.  The black & white picture makes it look rather eerie and spooky, as if Vincent Price was about to jump out of the woods and terrorize you.  I mean the younger Vincent Price, not now since he's dead.  But I guess an (un) dead Vincent Price would be scary too.  Have fun in there.

I knew somebody would say that. No, it wasn't Andy. I haven't heard from him in probably a year or more. Title: Re: I live in a castle (well, sort of). Title: Re: I live in a castle (well, sort of). Post by: Hydrobond on October 28, 2005, 09:48:03 AM Are you sure that it was build in 1890?
Hamilton County Auditor has it listed as 1900. And 8 freeking bedrooms! So who mantains the 2 acres of gardens? Title: Re: I live in a castle (well, sort of). Post by: Lord Nepenthean on October 28, 2005, 10:22:21 AM Quote Are you sure that it was build in 1890? Hamilton County Auditor has it listed as 1900. And 8 freeking bedrooms! So who mantains the 2 acres of gardens? How in the heck did you find the address for that place? I haven't given it to a single soul, except for Cinergy and the staff of this web site. I guess you must've gotten it from one of the staff members..... but damn, that was scary. Anyway, I was going off what the landlord said, and he seemed to know what he was talking about. So perhaps building commenced in 1890 and it was finished in its current form in 1900? Who knows? The guy (landlord) is an antique and house collector it seems, and the stuff he had in his section of the house (first two floors) was incredible. I felt like I was in the house of a man who robbed William Randolph Hearst. A lot of what he had looked like it belonged in museums. Oh, and I think the landlord has somebody come out and maintain the gardens, but I'm not sure yet. Just moved in after all. They are nice though, complete with a pond, goldfish, weeping willow, stone statues, rosebushes, etc. Title: Re: I live in a castle (well, sort of). Good Job, Mike. Title: Re: I live in a castle (well, sort of). Post by: Hydrobond on November 03, 2005, 09:40:14 AM Peter: Oh my God Lois, movable printed type. We must keep this from the serfs lest they learn how to read and rise up.
