I would just like to got other's stance on the issue. Is this good or bad, or am I the only one who cares? Title: Re: OH MY! Post by: NDiddy on December 16, 2005, 09:27:23 PM Is the U.N. just there as a joke or a suggestion now?
I mean this crap with the internet is just the top of the shit cake, we dont take a stand against torture , going to war when the U.N. didnt approve of it and all that talk about black sites and CIA prisons in other countries, why hasnt the USofwilldowhateverthefuckwewantorsay gotten any sanctions against it yet? Title: Re: OH MY! Post by: Arrrhalomynn on December 17, 2005, 12:31:50 AM I really don't care much, but I think it would be good for everyone if some sort of international organization were to handle this instead of an American one.

I agree. Although I'd first want to see some factual analysis of how this would affect the internet, rather than speculation. Title: Re: OH MY! Post by: SFS on December 17, 2005, 06:15:24 AM Quote we dont take a stand against torture Bush accepted McCain's ban on torture. Title: Re: OH MY! Post by: Hydrobond on December 17, 2005, 06:47:20 AM The Internet was started and funded by the US government under the Department of Defense (ARPANet).
Why shouldn't ICANN continue to oversee the Internet? It has remained unrestricted yet reliable under their watch. The Internet would not function without ICANN and it's standards. They have no real control over what other countries do with the Internet. If China wants to restrict what their citizens can and cannot access, they certainly don't need our help in doing it.
