Title: EDIT: It's over! Steelers won. What do you think?
Post by: captain_nintendo on January 09, 2006, 05:50:25 AM
What are your predictions and thoughts on the post season. With the wild card weekend out of the way and the games set for the next round, let us know what you think.

AFC is wide open.  Colts,Broncos,Pats........ Probably the Superbowl winner in that group.

NFC could go to whoever plays mistake free football.
I really want the Bears to win, but Carolina looks good.

Seahawks?  Meh  :-/

I guess well just have to wait and see.

And I feel bad for the Bengals and Palmer.  :o

Yeah, wasn't that a bite in the ass?

I would love to see Indy and Seattle in the Superbowl, but if I am being realistic it's probably going to be New England and Carolina.  Why do I suggest them you ask?  Because to me that would be the least interesting match-up.

I didn't even know they started until I was talking to Capt Nintendo on the phone.  What teams are in the playoffs?

Since von Oelhoffen ruined the Bengals chances (for the record, it was not his fault), I am going to have to pick Indianapolis over Da Bears.

Title: Re: NFL play offs and the Super Bowl !
Post by: Lord Nepenthean on January 09, 2006, 02:25:00 PM
von Oelhoffen was formerly a Bengal.  I remember seeing him play here.  You could tell in the replays that he knew what had happened and that he was not happy about it either, even though it helped his team's chances of winning greatly.  Such a shame for this to happen when the Bengals were finally doing things right.  People didn't talk about it much, but Henry going out of the game essentially the same play didn't help things either.

Title: Re: NFL play offs and the Super Bowl !
Post by: St0rmTK421 on January 09, 2006, 04:12:29 PM
I think everything has already been said about the Bengals.  Oh well, can't wait till next year.

That having been said, I'm going to have to root for Indy now.  I really wanted to see a rematch between Indy and Cincy in the playoffs.  They really look like what the Bengals will be in 3 or 4 years, plus they're playing Pittsburgh this weekend.  I'd like to see them finally win a superbowl.

Seahawks over the Steelers.

I've been a Seahawks fan for 20 some years and I deserve my chance to shine as a fan.  :) I've watched nearly every one of their games in the last two years, they are doing awesome. Oh yeah and they have already beat the Colts this year. And boy can they put points on the board, #1 offense in the NFL.

Steelers will probally lose to the Colts but I like Pittsburg better.

Wow, what a shit storm.

Who would have guessed all of the games turning out the way they did.

Carolina looks pretty damn good. The Seahawks are gonna be hurting if they have to play a second week without thier stud running back.

God, I hope the Broncos win.

I respect Cower..... But damn I hate looking at him.

I wonder if the Super Bowl ratings will be down this year. There are no good stories left. No super star qb's left.

Title: Re: NFL play offs and the Super Bowl !
Post by: den68 on January 16, 2006, 07:28:31 AM
good point. Roethlisberger will be a super star but he's only in his second year. Plummer, Hasselbeck and Delhomme have never been catagorized as amongst  the "elite".

Hasselbeck did have an outstanding year though, maybe the Seahawks can do it.

Fucking Steelers. They intentionally took out Palmer, they obviously bought off the Colts Offensive line and they probably killed Dungy's son to top things off. I hope their bus crashes. (no not Bettis)

How are the Seahawks not a good story? An awesome rookie middle linebacker, good QB, great RB, like five pretty good recievers. And they've never been to the Super Bowl before.

so at what point does Peyton Manning get labeled a playoff choker?

sure he rallied them back into the game but got a couple huge breaks to do that. one was the pick he threw that got overturned on replay ( the league announced today that it was an incorrect call ), second he got lucky on the Bettis fumble after he went for it on 4th down at his own 10 yard line. The Colts offense did NOTHING the whole first half.

sure Vanderjagt missed the tying kick but I think Manning blew that drive. the Colts had 2nd and 2 with 3 timouts and Manning goes deep to Wayne on back to back plays. both were incomplete and they had to attempt a 46 yard field goal which is no gimmie especially with the game on the line.

on second down he had Dallas Clark wide open for what was an easy first down and at least an 8 - 10 yard gain. on 3rd down Edgerrin James was open coming out of the backfield for an easy first down.

Vanderjagt will take most of the heat for missing so badly but I think Manning blew that game.

Title: Re: NFL play offs and the Super Bowl !

I would call him a choker now.

I agree.

They had a great offense and a great defense.
Maybe they got out coached?

You know Dungy never did win in Tampa, then the next year Gruden comes in and wins a Superbowl....Hmmmm

So maybe all of the blame shouldn't rest on Peyton.  :-/

Are you nuts?  They didn't intentionally take out Palmer.  Yeah, it sucked that he went down, but von Oelhoffen (spelled wrong I bet) was obviously unhappy as soon as he saw Palmer writing in pain.

As for your other two comments.....   I hope you're joking.  Nobody could be so dumb as to believe those things.

As for what I hope....  I hope the Steelers win the Super Bowl, and I think they have a good shot at it.  Roethlisberger is a phenomenal quarterback and a class act.  He's also from this area and I went to Miami, so I want to see him do well.  Jerome Bettis deserves to play in a Super Bowl more than anyone else in football right now.  The guy is a hall of famer, also a class act, etc.  This will probably be his last season in the league, so I'd love to see him finally get a championship ring.  Bill Cowher (also spelled wrong I imagine) is a great coach.  Yeah, he always looks like he is pissed at the world (which he probably is), but he is one of the best coaches in the league. Again, very deserving of a title.

And lastly, I'd rather look back and remember that we lost to the Super Bowl champs (and still gave them a decent game in spite of huge injuries on our team) than look back and have lost to a team that just got clobbered in the second round.  The Steelers winning the Super Bowl does great things for our division.

End rant.

My friend picked Carolina at the begining of the year and Pittsburgh when the playoffs started.

I don't care much.
The teams i really wanted to go all the way are out.

I disagree though that the superbowl is not worth watching because of the teams that have made it.

On top of that, congrats to the Seahawks. I honestly could not envision them winning. I mean the play in the NFC west of all places ??? (easy wins)

But I gotta give it to them. They placed stellar.

I heard an astounding peice of commentary last night.  Before the Pittsburgh - Denver game, ESPN was going through thier normal pre-game hype and they said no 6th seeded team has ever made it to the AFC Championship game.  Immediatly after that, they said that the Indy-Pittsburgh game was the first time a 6 seed beat a 1 seed......well no shit.  In order for a 6 seed to get to the championship, they have to play the 1 seed.  That's like saying hey, I get paid on Friday.  I also will recieve my check at the end of the work week.

So is this the first time you have ever listened to a football commentator?

Three things that I have always noticed is that they say something just to be talking, they often repeat information and they constantly get information wrong.

Oh boy, I can't wait to hear about Jerome Bettis all week.  In case no one here watches Sportscenter, Jerome Bettis grew up in Detroit and went to MacKenzie high school, and he still has strong ties to Detroit.  He also runs several charities that help inner-city youths in Detroit.  He's an all around stand up guy.

I woke up this morning at 7:00 a.m. and turned on the news and the first thing they were talking about was Jerome Bettis.  I decided then that I was going to keep track of how many times I hear someone in the media talking about "The Bus coming home ".  It's 9:41 and I'm up to 5.

Sweet God of irony.  One of my friends gave me a call last night and said he had an extra ticket to a Superbowl party downtown at the Majestic theater on Thursday.  I of course said I would love to go and then asked who was hosting it.  His answer:

Jerome Bettis

Here is a link to the party.  If you look under upcoming concerts it's listed as Jerome Bettis Superbowling Party on 2/2.

Did anyone else notice that they kept showing pictures of Steelers players holding the trophy before the game was over? Me and some friends have come to the conclusion that the Superbowl was bought and paid for by Pittsburgh. Rottenburger even said it on Letterman.

Could it have been that the Steelers already had 4 of them to take pictuers with whereas the Seahawks had 0?

Sad thing is out of 32 teams,   11 teams have won 35 of the superbowls doesnt say much for the rest of the league.

pittsburgh 5
san fran 5
dallas 5
raiders 3
redskins 3
new england 3
green bay 3
dolphins 2
giants2
denver 2
baltimore  2

pfft, you need to relist that in alphabetical order. (so my Cowboys are on top where they belong)

Also concerning this past Superbowl...... Everybody who watched the game were the real losers. I mean Bill Cowher getting that much face time on national television !!!!! Just plain horrible. That man is ugly.

I noticed that too.  It seemed like I saw Jerome Bettis and Ben Rothelisberger posing with the trophy for the entire first half, and then during the second half when the game was a little closer they slipped Shaun Alexander and Matt Hasselback in there during a montage.  Conspiracy theories abound!

They always print championship shirts and hats for both teams. Ever notice how at the end of a championship the winners already have hats and t-shirts?

I got get what team it was for that I had a hat that said Champions on it but they lost.

I wonder how much one could make if they got a hold of the ones the losing team had made up and sold them on ebay.

I don't know...It'd be kinda lame to have the champion shirt of a team that didn't win the championship, but then again, It'd be a collectors item.

one of my buddies emailed this to me and i couldn't resist. :D

it's true though....steelers had only the seahawks to beat, while the seahawks had to play against the ref's and steelers.  :-/
