Quote You've Got Mail (and Court Says Others Can Read It) By SAUL HANSELL Published: July 6, 2004 Last week a federal appeals court in Boston ruled that federal wiretap laws do not apply to e-mail messages if they are stored, even for a millisecond, on the computers of the Internet providers that process them - meaning that it can be legal for the government or others to read such messages without a court order. The ruling was a surprise to many people, because in 1986 Congress specifically amended the wiretap laws to incorporate new technologies like e-mail. Some argue that the ruling's implications could affect emerging applications like Internet-based phone calls and Gmail, Google's new e-mail service, which shows advertising based on the content of a subscriber's e-mail messages. I was reading g-mails t.o.s the other day, and I thought it was about as secure as a padlock made from swiss cheese. Guess it makes no odds now. Title: Re: Another Civil Liberty You No Longer Have Post by: Izret101 on July 13, 2004, 09:35:37 AM The government sucks.

That sucks. There are still people in the House of Lords who are there purely becuase of priveledge of birth. It's bollocks. Title: Re: Another Civil Liberty You No Longer Have Post by: Zimbacca on July 13, 2004, 06:46:06 PM that's fucking bullshit!
Title: Re: Another Civil Liberty You No Longer Have Post by: danvx6 on July 13, 2004, 10:29:00 PM both the priviledge of birth thing and the court thing are bullshit. big, smelly bullshit. this means that the government can read everything (not that they already don't) and the network guys that actually transfer the mail can also read it. extra big shit.
Title: Re: Another Civil Liberty You No Longer Have Post by: Izret101 on July 13, 2004, 10:35:14 PM You do know that every phone call and email are listened to and scaned anyways to pick up specific phrases and things and if they seem important enough then they have a person read it and send it to higher up ect. when my dad was in the military he did i should say would have done "top secret " transmissions but since we were in peace time there was really no need. He said that was one of the first things he learned. But now they can just do it openly and get away with it.

Title: Re: Another Civil Liberty You No Longer Have Post by: IceBladeX on July 14, 2004, 02:03:09 AM They still call it the "House of Lords"? Seems like a title like that should have gone out with the guillotine.
Title: Re: Another Civil Liberty You No Longer Have Post by: Izret101 on July 14, 2004, 10:12:29 AM I think they should have the guillotine and a public display of the beheading. But i would change it from lords to something else... like house of the lucky bastards who were born into the right family.
ya that has a nice ring to it Title: Re: Another Civil Liberty You No Longer Have Post by: thx1138 on July 15, 2004, 08:12:44 AM Quote They still call it the "House of Lords"? Seems like a title like that should have gone out with the guillotine. Well, they have finally put a stop to hereditery peers. Until very, very recently, most people in the house of lords inherited their titles from their parents, and got an automatic seat in the government. A chap was released from prison in the USA for fraud, a week later he was sitting in the house of lords voting! Anyway, hereditry peers no longer get a seat, but there are some folks in the upper house at the moment who survived the change, and are their due to privelege of class nothing more - altough their children won't be able to follow them. I think the monarchy, and the ruling classes, and the titles of duke, lord, baron etc etc should be swept into the dustbin of history Title: Re: Another Civil Liberty You No Longer Have Post by: Izret101 on July 15, 2004, 01:11:44 PM Some one in my family was a Duke
and now i live in Springfield Mass man that guy must've screw up |
