Title: a billion Post by: wrldstrman on March 24, 2006, 07:15:53 PM A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a
good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases. a.. A billion seconds ago it was 1973. b.. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive. c.. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age. d.. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet. e.. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it. While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New Orleans - It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division ............ Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans. Interesting number, what does it mean? Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you each get $515,811. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans, your home gets $1,328,018 Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,063,243. Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals. Title: Re: a billion Post by: Tynstar on March 24, 2006, 07:47:17 PM I have a great idea for New Orleans. BUILD IT WHERE IT WON"T FLOOD AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Title: Re: a billion Post by: wrldstrman on March 24, 2006, 11:44:23 PM that would make to much sense
Title: Re: a billion Post by: shaggy on March 25, 2006, 04:24:10 AM Yea, way too much sense...
Title: Re: a billion Post by: Pop Culture Portal on March 25, 2006, 05:46:14 AM I've never understood why people insist on building in/on a floodplain....yes, it's flat and pretty, but it FLOODS! Hence the name floodplain! Put me up on a hill. I think there's a less likelihood that a volcano is going to erupt in the middle of nowhere Kentucky if I put my house on a hill....of course with flooding comes mudslides...hmm
Title: Re: a billion Post by: Hydrobond on March 25, 2006, 06:28:06 AM Well, I guess we're just gonna have to start colonizing the moon. I hear the weather is great.
Maybe he asked for $250 billion because he knows congress will only grant less than half of every proposal. That's my guess anyways. Title: Re: a billion Post by: captain_nintendo on March 25, 2006, 06:34:42 AM I am a billion seconds old :P

And in deserts. And hurricane/twister prone areas. You can't all live in the perfect spot. I live below sea level too. No problems here. Title: Re: a billion Post by: Pop Culture Portal on March 25, 2006, 07:59:24 AM Quote People build in earth quake zones too. I just realized I live in an earthquake zone. Egads...guess my house on a hill will end up being shaken down the side of the hill and land in a flooded floodplain and be washed away. I'm doomed. :( ;) Title: Re: a billion Post by: The Metamorphosing Leon on March 25, 2006, 10:57:19 AM Quote Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next."
