I went to a Suncoast on Saturday that is going out of buisness (I'm pretty sure that this one will be closed by next weekend) and despite the fact that 80% of the good DVD's are gone, there was a huge amount of UMD's that looked pretty much untouched.
Add on top of that, I have several friends that buy all of the newest entertainment related technology whether it's going to be popular or not (think DVD audio) and even they won't touch these things. They are pretty big failures now and they will probably just get shiiped back and melted down. As was already stated think of the Betamax. 5.25 floppys still fetch a decent price too. a few of my friends have a psp and they are upset that there are more movies than games. They also said that there isn't many good games for the system. UMD makes the PSP mediocre... not just the limited movie format, but the games as well. the load times and battery life are all tied to using optical media rather than the memory stick. on top of all of that, the one key advantage of optical media, price, doesnt apply to a propritary format. so here we are, and im sure half a dozen people will start defending the psp, perhaps one of them via viral marketing, and the whole arguments wills start all over again. |
