Cowboys:

Linemen!
Maybe a linebacker if there is somebody there.

I havent really researched the draft and who is out there yet. I am pretty sure we are set at running back and reciever.

Buffalo:

Oh God....Where do I start?  I'd like to see a few offensive linemen and a power back to compliment McGahee.  Also, a shutdown corner and a middle denfensive lineman.

The Cardinals can't draft for shit so I am sure it won't matter and if the player they draft turnsd out to be good they will leave to play for a real team.

1 good pick out of how many? But you are right he is good which means he should be playing for a real team soon.

Watched the NFL draft preview thing on ESPN this past weekend. Well, I guess I should say I started to watch it. It seems like they spent 20 minutes talking about Matt Lienhart (spelling).

Seriously....... I want to know about the guys nobody knows about, or stuff that matters. Not about if Matt will go in the first 6 picks.  ::)

Yea really, they focus so damn much on the next big thing, but so much of the NFL is made up of middle round gems that put a team over the top for the super bowl. Give me those gems!

Title: Re: 2006 nfl draft
Post by: TraderJake on April 12, 2006, 07:09:56 PM
Yeah Cincinnati drafted a really good middle round gem last year in Chris Henry. Too bad he is now taking it in the behind by a big black man named bubba down in Jacksonville.

I agree completely!

I believe Larry Allen (formerly of the Cowboys) was a 3rd round draft pick and he went 12 years dominating his position! He is a hall of famer for sure.

So those middle and late round picks can be just as important as the first.

Well, here's the thing, and I understand their ideas behind their talking:

I'll leave out the obvious reason of television ratings.

The major point that I can see is that you'd be very hard pressed to find a quarterback (post free agency) that has come out of the second day of the draft.

The free agency era started in 1992.  There have been 2 Super Bowl quarterbacks that have been in the second day (or later) in the draft.

Brad Johnson and Jake Delhomme (Delhomme wasn't drafted....He came from NFL Europe after not being drafted).

Johnson won his Super Bowl, in very mediocre  fashion.  215 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.  The defense (best in the NFL by far) scored 21 of Tampa Bay's points and created 5 interceptions.

Delhomme lost his Super Bowl, although his great performance.  He had 323 yards with 3 touchdowns.

After seeing this, I would hope that it is easy to see why they spend so much time on the top 10 (at least for quarterbacks).

Tom Brady..... 6th round  ;)

Kurt Warner was undrafted

I know this is before free agency, but perhaps the best QB in NFL history, Joe Montana was a 3rd round draft pick !!!!!!!

Of course number 1 draft picks do work out sometimes ;)  (Quarterback wise)

Terry Bradshaw
John Elway
Troy Aikman

I did forget about Brady (how could I?!?!).

Warner got lucky to get put on a team with the best recieving core and best running back in the game at that time.  Since then, he hasn't done a thing and never will.  He is a bum and will always in my mind, be a bum.  He did attend the Packers camp, if I am not mistaken, but was then cut cause was a bum.  Then he landed a job in the Arena league and NFL Europe.  Kurt Warner minus Issac Bruce and Tory Holt is like a fish without water.  It just doesn't work.

Warner's numbers were ok last year. Seriously not bad considering he wasn't even drafted (IMO)
But you are right about him being apart of that "greatest show on turn" team. It did alot for him.

Title: Re: 2006 nfl draft
Post by: Mezmoron on April 13, 2006, 08:49:42 AM
His numbers were "okay" last year because he has Fitzgerald and Boldin to throw to.  He was still at like an 85 passer rating, which is poop.  He also got sacked a bunch....like 25 times in 10 games.  Not as bad as David Carr (that's a whole other discussion) but Warner isn't as good as his team made him look.

Favre was a second round pick of the Falcons. Stupid Falcons trading Favre to the Packers for a ham sandwich. HAHAHA

ESPN and Don King are the 2 worse things in sports.

Title: Re: 2006 nfl draft

I agree. If only Fox would be smarter they could take a huge chunk of the sports market away from ESPN because there are a lot of people out there that DO NOT like ESPuNk.

As for the draft what do you think of each teams first day?

I'd give the Packers a C. Great first pick then they made 4 or 5 trades I can't tell anymore, I just don't know. They got FUTURE players, nobody besides Hawk that can help them now. It might be GB's way of telling Favre get lost.

Could have watched the draft on the NFL televison network if you have it  ;)

Vince Young is a talented athlete. I think everybody gives him credit for that. But so is Vick, and it has taken him a while to develope his QB skills. I honestly still dont think Vick is all that great.

Hawk was a no brainer for the Packers. I give the Cowboys a C+ for doing and getting what they needed.

I give the Cardinals a B for being lucky enough to have Lienhart drop into their laps at 10. I also like some of the picks later on.

I guess we really wont know who the big winners and losers are in this draft until we seee them play for a few years.

Lienart "lost" about 16 million in guaranteed money when he decided to stay at USC for 1 more year. That is about the difference in money from the 1 pick to the 10th pick.

Still, he is going to make some big money and probably will never have to worry about it.

Cardinals had quality picks all through the draft :o Maybe with the new stadium, they will turn things around? I will believe it when I see it :-/ The Bidwells have always been bad ownership, but it does look as if they are letting Dneeis Green run things.

Guess we'll see.

The Cardinals won't do anything until they upgrade their secondary.  You can't survive in this league w/ only 14 INTs a season.

They will still suck as long as the Bidwells own the team.

Doesn't it make you wonder why Norm Chow and the Titans passed on Matt Leinert?? Makes me think Chow knows something we dont from his days as an O cord at USC. I think he might be a a a a a BUST!
