Title: Amiga emulation
Post by: Izret101 on April 14, 2006, 10:48:56 AM
I am trying to find an Amiga emulator that will work.
I found one but it wouldn't work for some reason.
I want to play my copy of Mortal Kombat for the amiga but i don't own an Amiga.

I figured someone might know something.
bum-man maybe seeing as he seems to be the resident PC guy?

Console emulation is so much easier than computer emulation :-/

I don't think that there is a workable free emulator for Amiga games.  :(

I was surprised to find out there were a bunch of pay emulators out there.
Run by Amiga or supported by the original Amiga company too.

Oh well.
I will play the game in the distant future i guess than.

I have never looked into emulating an Amiga, I have several so there was no need.  The company that owns the Amiga rights (it's was a Commodore product but they are long gone) may kill any attempts to produce an emulator.  If no one has produced a clone of the kickstart rom without reverse engineering it then you would need to buy that to be legal.  I do happen to have an extra Amiga 500 laying around if you want to try and work out a trade.

As it stands now i am working out a way to pay my friend back via giving him games to sell on ebay.
I will keep your trade offer in mind though
thanks :)

Did a quick check and it looks like that's how they get you, by making you buy the kickstart rom from them.  It looks like there is an option to use the rom from a machine that you own, so if you want to obtain the rights to the rom in one of my machines let me know.  You may want to check and make sure the emulators let you read the Amiga diskettes in a PC's 3-1/5 drive before you invest much time, I know some formats are hard to do on a PC floppy drive.  No clue about the Amiga format, just saying you should check to make sure first cause if it doesn't you would have to get diskette images created and get them on your system some how.
