Title: System Naming Help - 1977 Atari
Post by: Mezmoron on April 16, 2006, 04:47:32 PM
Looking for a little info:

I'm looking for the proper name of a system...

It was manufactured by Atari for Sears-Roebuck & Co.

It was from 1977 or so.

It plays most Atari/Sears games, although it has trouble with the "newer" Atari 2600 games.

On the top above the cartridge slot, it says "Tele-Games", but on the front of the console, it says "Video Arcade".

It has 3 switches on either side of the cart slot.  The controllers get plugged into the back of the machine also.

Let me know if you know the name of it!  We were playing it at my future Mother-In-Law's house, and it brought a ton of memories back!

Thanks!!!

Ken

Here is a pic from atari age.

They don't tend to go for too much. I still haven't picked one up & it's high on my list of wanted items.

since there are so many variants of the Atari 2600 some of them have nicknames they are often identified by. the most obvious one being the all black 2600 referred to as Darth Vader.

the number of switches is often used as an identifier. I have often seen the one you have referred to as the 6-switch Tele-Games.

if you include famiclones, the NES would be even worse.  a lot of those systems were clones, but since the VCS was built from off-the-shelf parts, lots of companies cloned the system (the INTV and Coleco VCS adapters are clones as well)
