Lot of cool info there, but I don't buy all of it.

Don't buy the segabase or greggillis? Are some of there facts twisted? I didn't have a chance to go through both sites, but plan to tonight when I get home.

nintendo fans are in denial that the snes had competition in the 16 bit days

Heh, I'm not biased toward the big N. The Genesis did indeed give the SNES some stout competition for what it was, and at one time was most likely beating it in sales, especially during the Mortal Kombat craze... Says alot for an unestablished console company during a time when the big N dominated the market.
There are indeed alot of facts on the Sega Base site, but there also seem to be alot of opinions and gossip with no credit as to where the info came from, so I take it all with a grain of salt. Still a very good read none the less.
