Title: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: Mezmoron on May 09, 2006, 05:27:57 AM Does anyone know if all of these systems are wireless capable? I know I can't/won't run a cord to my modem. Too far away and too much hassle. Figured I'd ask since you all follow this stuff a lot.
Ken Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: yap on May 09, 2006, 06:01:12 AM Well I know the 360 is wireless compatable, because I have the wireless thing.
It's an extra $99 which is a gigantic ripoff, I wish I would have waited for the Wii. I'm pretty sure the Wii is going to have the same deal, and I'd guess if they both do so does the PS3. Not very informative huh. Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: captain_nintendo on May 09, 2006, 06:27:20 AM As Yap said, the 360 does indeed have wireless capability.

I am sure the PS3 will be as well. Is the PS2 wireless capable? Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: Izret101 on May 09, 2006, 06:57:01 AM Revolution was supposed to be wireless out of the box.
It has been rumored as such FOREVER I though only the 360 Core needed the wireless adapter? Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: yap on May 09, 2006, 07:03:26 AM The cheap PS3 will not have wireless out of the box, but you can buy it later on.

neither come with wireless ethernet. edit: this is in reference to the xbox three-shitty Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: Mezmoron on May 09, 2006, 07:06:42 AM So if I wanted a 360 w/ Wireless, I'd be looking at an extra $100? Ouch...
Ken Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: yap on May 09, 2006, 07:09:24 AM Not only that, but it does drop occasionally. My xbox is like 5 feet max from my wireless router, but my 2 computers 15 and 20 feet never drop.
Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: Izret101 on May 09, 2006, 07:17:43 AM I already have a cable running thru half the house to my room for my Xbox.
So i am not worried about my 360 being wireless if and when i get one. On the other hand i am probably going to pick up a Xbox Wireless adapter on eBay since those prices are down from the 119$s they use to be :) Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: captain_nintendo on May 09, 2006, 07:27:07 AM I really dont understand the need for wireless. I mean I "get it", but doesn't a wireless signal travel slower? Wouldnt you get more lag while playing?
I have been wanting a wirelss adapter as well, but 100 dollars = 2 games for next gen (or about) Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: Mezmoron on May 09, 2006, 07:30:38 AM When my system is 30 feet and 4 rooms away from my garage, which is where my wireless router is, you'd want wireless too :-)

I have a wirless router that I keep next to all my systems so I can plug them in. The more I use wireless in my house the more I wish I had my house wired for a network. Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: captain_nintendo on May 09, 2006, 07:34:03 AM Quote When my system is 30 feet and 4 rooms away from my garage, which is where my wireless router is, you'd want wireless too :-) Ken Drill up into the attic, run the wire, and drill down from the attic into the room you need wired ;) 40 - 50 foot cable needed.... Problem solved :) Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: Mezmoron on May 09, 2006, 07:35:53 AM Hahahaha And when are you coming to PA to do this for me?
Ken Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: Mezmoron on May 09, 2006, 07:36:42 AM Oh, and my entire freaking house is CAT5 wired EXCEPT the room that we have all the gaming things.

Ken I am too big to be crawling around in any attic. I had one of my smaller friends do this for me when I was running wire for my sound system ;) Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: Tynstar on May 09, 2006, 07:54:15 AM Quote Oh, and my entire freaking house is CAT5 wired EXCEPT the room that we have all the gaming things. I have a wirless router that I keep next to all my systems so I can plug them in. The more I use wireless in my house the more I wish I had my house wired for a network. Nope. My wireless routers all just have a USB port to hook a printer up to, and an audio port to hook radio up to. But I'm moving into a new house at the end of May, I'm thinking about running 2 ethernet jacks and coax cable to every room in the house. The only thing I like about wireless is how easy it all is. I can just roam around with my laptop or whatever and not have to worry about a hub and a mess of cables. At least if I wire all the rooms in the house to ethernet, the hub and mess of cables can be tucked away in the basement. More secure too. Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: Tynstar on May 09, 2006, 09:14:54 AM Quote Nope. My wireless routers all just have a USB port to hook a printer up to, and an audio port to hook radio up to. Why not buy a new router with wired ports as well? They are a lot cheaper then the wireless unit for the 360. Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: yap on May 09, 2006, 09:37:15 AM Yeah that might have made sense, I didn't think of that at the time.
Title: Re: Wii/360/PS3 Question Post by: Hydrobond on May 09, 2006, 10:59:05 AM Quote doesn't a wireless signal travel slower? Wouldnt you get more lag while playing? In theory, the wireless signal is travelling in a straight line to the router, where as the wire would bend, making wireless slightly faster. I believe the 802.11x standards are slower than ethernet because of all the extra data they have to carry in each packet sent (identification information and the like). As far as ping goes, wireless and wired should be similar. Throughput is a different story, though the 802.11n standard will be faster than 100Mbps ethernet. Gigabit ethernet will blow the n standard out of the water though. |
