Title: Game-Influenced Music
Post by: Sureshot on July 19, 2004, 01:03:24 PM
Was thinking to myself today about music that was created with a certain game in mind, or is composed in the style of game music - maybe it sounds like a SID or it uses a sample from a game.  So I thought it would be interesting to see what tunes people know that have been made past and present, with gaming elements involved.

Incidentally, I'm leaning more to the side of 'slightly major' band, in that I know of sites such as OCRemix and so on who make remixes of game tunes, but I'm looking for tunes 'real' artists have released.

Here's some I can think of:

Dr. Spin - Tetris
Ambassadors Of Funk f. MC Mario - Supermarioland
Aphex Twin - Powerpill Pacman
Game Over - Nintendo Metal (EP)
Hrvatski - Insect Digestion Melancholy
Cocoa Brovaz - Super Brooklyn
Benefit - Warp To World 69
Apocalyptica - Zelda Main Theme
DJ Hype - R-Type
The Laziest Men On Mars - Invasion Of The Gabber Robots (All Your Base Are Belong To Us)
Audio Karate - Nintendo 89
Bomb The Bass - Megablast
Squarepusher - Journey To Reedham (7AM Mix)
M.J.Hibbett & The Validators - Hey Hey 16K
The Mad Capsule Markets - Fly High
Roni Size - Sound Advice

That song isn't actually by SOAD, simply a wild but false rumour :P

Check it out: http://www.ocremix.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00022

Anybody know who did that song a few years ago that was basically the Mario Bros. theme with some campy vocals on top? I never heard it identified when it was on college radio all the time...

Kernkraft 400 - Zombie Nation. They've used a melody from Lazy Jones

Tony Fox NYC released an entire album of game-themed techno at CGE2K2.  Great stuff that you should check out.  There's also a band named Pus who I think are Swedish that do all of their music using only a GameBoy, from what I've heard.  I've heard one of their albums, and it was pretty cool.  There's also a band called Game Over that do Nintendo metal songs.  www.nintendometal.com  for more.  VNV Nation or Welle did a song a while back that was video game-themed.  I can't think of the name of it offhand though.  Oh, and this isn't major artist stuff, but check out www.gamingfm.com for straight-up video game tunes.
