Title: found some old ass pics of my city
Post by: Zimbacca on June 07, 2006, 11:15:36 PM
Today I found a book full of old pictures of from my home city Battle Ground.  It's kind of interesting some of these pictures are from the 1880's (although I think I saw a few older ones in the book).  Hell I didn't even know the city was even that old.

here's a picture of main street in the late 1800's early 1900's

This one I could crop out with the captions, sooo... yeah...

The train station, and a field that now is a subdivision.

In side and outside shot of the general store from 1908.

More shots of Main Street.

Some railroad workers, and the station.

Battle Ground's very first car, and the family who owned it.

a crew repairing the roads

Battle Ground's first mailman

If anyone has any interest to see any more I'll upload more, but for right now I'm too lazy to keep scanning, cropping, and uploading.

Yeah, that stuff's awesome. I love old pics of Cinci, especially pics of our Over the Rhine area, which is a ghettoish part of town.

Cincinnati's West End, Juncta Juvant.

All the buildings (exceptions being Union Terminal and the Post Office) to the left of the North South Street on the right no longer exist, thanks to the construction of the superhighway known as Interstate 75.

Damn thats a lot of stuff to remove for a highway.

TraderJake isn't speaking the entire truth.  While a lot of it was removed for the highway, most of the buildings were torn down and turned into industrial complexes of one type or another.  On a positive note, some of the area has been reclaimed by developers, creating a massive development known as City West. This is the best I could do, but it doesn't quite fit everything in that was in the original picture.

And yes, old pictures kick ass.

Although we will never know for sure, I imagine that had 75 not been built Queensgate would not also have been created.

PS: City West reclaimed the section 9 housing projects known as Laurel Homes.
