Title: Car Crash Post by: Izret101 on June 08, 2006, 09:06:48 PM Today was a thrilling day for me.
I was supposed to go get my tires replaced tomorrow morning(had the whole day planed around taking the day off of work and doing this among other things) So on the way to the store my 2nd tire blows out. Of course i already had a spare on from a few days ago. So i drove to a friends house nearby on the flat and called home got my mom to call AAA(since she had an account not me) and got the car towed. Got 4 new tires and the guy told me my rim was completely shot. The guy told me they would put a new rim on free if i got one from a junk yard. The trip was 199.50$s for my shit to get fixed. Within another 5 minutes i was spun out in the middle of the road in a totaled car. This old lady ran a red light plowed into my passenger side and crunched it into my car. Front and back. It was bad. Thank god my friend wasn't with my like was the original plan or her right arm and leg would be broken at the bare minimum. I will get pictures up tomorrow. I just got a speeding ticket on the way home from my girlfriends and I thought it was bad but dude, paying to fix the car and then losing the car... ouch. Hope you get lots of insurance cash. Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: Tynstar on June 08, 2006, 10:34:50 PM That sucks ass man but I am glad to hear you are OK.

Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: den68 on June 10, 2006, 04:29:34 AM glad to hear you're okay. that's the important thing.
sucks about the car though. Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: Speedy_NES on June 10, 2006, 05:28:55 AM Like the others said, good to hear you're alright man. Sucks that you went through all that shit to get your car fixed and then have it totalled soon afterwards. I hope you get some good insurance money! Was the old lady drunk by the way?
Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: captain_nintendo on June 10, 2006, 05:58:05 AM Glad your ok Anthony. That really sucks about your car though. I have been in that position before, and I know how bad it sucks.
Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: bum-man on June 10, 2006, 07:25:57 AM Glad your ok, yeah this kinda thing suck you don't have a car and you end up have to spend all kinds of time getting things fixed. And the only thing you did was be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: Izret101 on June 11, 2006, 06:15:23 AM My car is still driving fine considering how far the passenger side is pushed in.
So i lucked out there. Yesterday(or the night before) i found out i did get an injury. I had a 2x2 bruise on the right side of my back in the middle of my ribcage. Nothing could have hit me(that i can think of) and the seatbelt couldn't have done it so it is a strange "wound". I haven't been able to get the pics off of a camera yet though. I had at least 2 good pics too. Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: Izret101 on June 21, 2006, 09:52:22 AM They only want to give me 2100ish for my totaled car.
Anyone have advice for a website or other way to find out the prices of similair cars in my area so that i can get more money from the insurance company. We haven't even had the thing for a year yet so i don't think it has dropped 1000$s in value. Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: Sauza12 on June 28, 2006, 07:41:40 AM You can try to get more cash out of the insurance company, but the chances of you getting any more out of them are slim to none. The best place to get a price for your car is to go to http://www.kbb.com/. Chances are this is what the insurance company is using to get the value of your car.
Usually finding the price of similar cars in your area doesn't matter much at all unless it's a historical car (liek a '67 Camaro fer instance). Most insurance companies usually only look at things on a national level. However if you think it would help, you can always check www.autotrader.com. Of course, they are just going to list asking prices there, but it's a pretty good measuring stick of what the cars are going for in your area. Good luck with everything! Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: Izret101 on June 28, 2006, 12:16:53 PM Thanks for the lionks.
I thought i had posted an update to this i guess not... They wouldn't accept kbb values for some rediculous reason. And they said it had to be cars from our area because of winter wear on the vehicles which makes sense unfortunately. I managed to find a bunch of prices from edmunds/autotrader. And i still don't have any picturs up yet. Why? I don't know... EDIT And i am still waiting for their reply on the values i found of my car that were around the 3k-4k range. There was one i founf that was at 9k But it was in NY Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: Izret101 on June 29, 2006, 12:43:07 PM w00t
Insurance got back to us thismorning They are going to give me 3400 for the car instead of the original 2100. Now i just need to call back the person about paying me for the work i missed(it was 3 days but since my mom had to deal with alot of stuff at first and she only said 2 i will miss out on at least 80$s of pay) and my pain and suffering. Excellent news man! I'm glad that you got more than what you were expecting. That is always a plus. Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: Izret101 on June 29, 2006, 12:54:37 PM Well they were trying to screw me.
The KBB on my car i am pretty sure is a few hundred higher than that at least. I had to send them a ton of ads fom around the area proving that they owed me more money. I was so stoaked about it when my mom called me at work (around 9am). I get to keep the car too so i might try to get another 97 Nissan Sentra GXE so i can harvet some parts off my crashed one and put them on the new one.\ Tires, hood, lights, side view mirror. I will be able to save myself a couple hundred in new parts when i need them for the next car. Assuming i get the same model again. I might go for a Lexus though. ;) Only 8 grand and it is a few years old. Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: Tynstar on June 29, 2006, 01:02:04 PM Thats awesome man.
Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: Sauza12 on June 30, 2006, 07:13:22 AM Wow, congratulations! I have to deal with insurance companies on pretty much a daily basis and I've never had that kind of luck with them and I have a fleet of 203 cars! Congratulations!
Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: Izret101 on June 30, 2006, 12:26:24 PM I talked to the old ladies insurance today about injury/pain and suffering and missed wages but they said i had to file the claim thru my (technically my mothers) insurance company.
Title: Re: Car Crash Post by: David_J. on June 30, 2006, 09:55:07 PM Wow, the car I own is so common, '96 Ford Taurus that I'd have no problems with junk yards. And the resale value is crap. Great car otherwise, even if you hate Tord's.
The winter wear crap is silly. There is a dealership from down south that "imports" cars and a few trucks and sells them here. Who would want a '94 Toyota from down south and pay out the hose for it has issues. They've been here for over a year and almost all of the cars they orignaly brought up are still on the lot. Trucks I could understand... box rot and all, but old economy cars? Maybe project cars. I dunno. I've seen a lot of people who work minimum wage jobs that buy a brand new car they can barely afford and with in a year it is ruined, or has rust -- cars STILL rust. I've seen rusted Ford Focus's, and brand new Jeep's with rust on the axles. Trucks with NEW looking frames and rotted everywhere else. |
