Title: Spiders Post by: TraderJake on August 20, 2006, 12:20:57 AM A lot of people seemed to be intrigued by the spiders in the Who's Online list, so here is an explanation of what spiders are and what they do.
The spiders that you see in the Who's online list are bots that search engine companies use to index sites and add them to their search database. They crawl millions of pages a day indexing pages so that John Q User can do a search for it. So, when you see Yahoo Spider or Googlebot in the who's online list that just means that those search engines are indexing our pages. Hopefully that alleviates some of the confusion on the spiders.
